A must-visit! Hong Kong Heritage Museum, a treasure trove of history hidden in the park

#HongKongMuseumGuide In a place as precious as Hong Kong, it’s surprising to find so many museums. The Hong Kong Heritage Museum, located in Kowloon Park, is one of them. It was formerly a military camp and later became an antiquities exhibition hall. The artifacts displayed inside are all excavated locally in Hong Kong. Although its history is not as long as museums in mainland China, it offers us a deeper understanding of Hong Kong’s ancient architecture, culture, and historical changes. There are also some uniquely designed exhibition rooms, each drawer labeled with a place in Hong Kong, containing artifacts unearthed from that location. You can open the drawer of the place you’re interested in, which kids find very fun. There are ceramics excavated near Disneyland, covering the entire floor of the exhibition hall, combined with lighting effects, creating a very impressive scene. There is also a gas lamp from Central, which was broken during Typhoon Mangkhut. A special restoration team was formed, and it was sent to a factory in the UK for repairs, taking several months to complete. What surprised me the most is that the museum offers free guided tours. However, they are in Cantonese and scheduled by time slots, not available all the time, with limited spots on a first-come, first-served basis. The whole tour lasts about an hour.
