Learn while playing Kaka Mama recently took her two little ones👧🏻👧🏻 to the Children's Discovery Centre at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum. The centre is specially designed for children aged 4-10, allowing them to explore Hong Kong's natural ecology through play. Plus, it's a free exhibition. Although the space isn't very large, it's enough for us to spend an afternoon playing inside. There's also a restaurant inside the Heritage Museum, and if you have time, you can even go cycling🚲. It's really perfect to include in your summer vacation😎 plans. The exhibition is divided into 8️⃣ learning and play zones where kids can explore the Mai Po marshland🏝️, dig deep underground🕳️, or dive underwater🌊 through interactive exhibits. They learn about Hong Kong's native birds🪿, insects, and marine life🐬, and about protecting marine creatures and cleaning up ocean trash🗑️. There is also a rural🌾 life area where children can get hands-on with local archaeological artifacts, become little farmers👩🌾, and simulate rural life, sparking their interest in history. Inside, there is a "Hong Kong Childhood Toys" exhibition showcasing nostalgic toys🚂🤖 designed, made, or sold locally, along with classic games for everyone to try, such as giant flying chess and animal chess🐯. They also have a puzzle play area with various brain games, [🎯 perfect for playing with parents, plus a small reading room📚 stocked with a variety of Chinese and English picture books. It's ideal for kids who want to quietly read after playing, helping both adults and children take a break from screens📱 and strengthen family bonds. The Hong Kong Heritage Museum also has permanent exhibitions, such as "Hong Kong Pop Culture 60+" (covering the development of popular performing arts culture in Hong Kong from the 1960s to early 2000s), the Jin Yong Gallery, and the Cantonese Opera Culture Gallery. When visiting the Cantonese Opera Culture Gallery with kids, some interactive exhibits are really fun! Through screens, children can transform into Cantonese opera characters, which is very entertaining. Transportation: The nearest MTR station🚆 is Che Kung Temple Station, Exit A, about a 5 to 10-minute walk. However, the route is completely uncovered, so it can be a bit inconvenient when it rains.
