Hong Kong Heritage Museum Humorous Hong Kong Comics Exhibition Brings Classic Comic Characters to Everyone

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), in collaboration with the Hong Kong Comics Federation and sponsored by the Creative Industries Development Division, presents the exhibition "Comics for All—Humorous Hong Kong Comics Fun" at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum. The exhibition runs from May 21 until March 9 next year, with free admission. Through manuscripts, comic books, themed products, art installations, and multimedia projects related to Hong Kong humorous comics, the exhibition showcases the inspiration and artistic features of local comic artists, revisiting important humorous comic works that have accompanied readers' growth from the 1950s to the present. LCSD Director Michelle Chan, in her speech at the exhibition opening ceremony on May 20, said that Hong Kong is a melting pot of Eastern and Western cultures, with a vibrant city life that provides rich material for comic creation. Hong Kong humorous comics have a unique style, are popular with readers both locally and abroad, and have even inspired cultural and creative products such as movies, toys, stationery, and models, serving as the best proof of Hong Kong’s cultural soft power. Hong Kong Comics Federation President Wong Yuk-long said this exhibition is a testament to the inheritance of Hong Kong comic pop culture. He hopes the exhibition will continue to spread and promote Hong Kong’s unique sense of humor, allowing more people to experience the charm of Hong Kong comics. Other officiating guests at the opening ceremony included Su Chiu-chun, Director (Multimedia) of the Creative Industries Development Division, Professor Mok Ka-ho, Chairman of the Museum Advisory Committee’s History Specialist Committee, and Lam Kwok-fai, Director of the Hong Kong Heritage Museum. The exhibition halls and various spots within the Hong Kong Heritage Museum feature many "photo spots" where visitors can take pictures with 11 groups of humorous comic characters from different eras, including Old Master Q, Cowboy, Longevity Boy, Toothpick Jane, Q Boy, Old Maid, Crazy Dang, Ding Ding Penguin, Big Ma Sing, IT Guy and Art Girl, as well as Big Big and Little Sister. Visitors can also experience the world of humorous comics through carefully designed interactive exhibits such as digital caricatures, comic funhouse mirrors, and comic photo studios. Not to be missed are precious manuscripts, comic books, and themed products from Hong Kong comic artists of different eras, including rare humorous comic manuscripts by masters like Ma Wing-shing, Lee Chi-ching, and Kei Man-kit, some of which are on display for the first time. The venue also features the "Comics for All Reading" area, showcasing selected comic collections from the Hong Kong Public Libraries, allowing visitors to relive the joy of reading comics. During the exhibition, the Hong Kong Heritage Museum will also hold a series of free special programs, including talks, film screenings, caricature demonstrations, and workshops. For details, please visit the website or call for inquiries. The exhibition is part of the Hong Kong Pop Culture Festival 2025 program. This year, the LCSD is hosting the third Hong Kong Pop Culture Festival under the theme "Joy Plus Joy."
