"Harmony of Rites and Music, Exploring Qi and Lu -- Special Exhibition of Shandong Cultural Relics" opens

Under the guidance of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage, the People's Government of Shandong Province and the Development Bureau, and co-organized by the Office of the Commissioner for Cultural Heritage Conservation of the Development Bureau and the Shandong Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, the "Harmony of Rites and Music, Exploring Qi and Lu - Special Exhibition of Shandong Cultural Relics" (May 28) opened, exhibiting precious cultural relics unearthed in Shandong and Hong Kong, allowing the public to understand the unique Qi and Lu culture and experience the "diversity and unity" of Chinese civilization. The opening ceremony was presided over by Development Bureau Director Ning Hanhao and Shandong Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee Member and Secretary-General Fan Bo. Shandong Provincial Party Committee Secretary and Chairman of the Provincial People's Congress Standing Committee Lin Wu and Shandong Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism Director Wang Lei were also present. A total of 60 sets (about 200 items) of selected Shandong cultural relics are exhibited in Hong Kong for the first time. The key exhibits include the "Eggshell Black Pottery Hole High-Handled Cup", the pinnacle of China's prehistoric pottery making skills, the "White Pottery Three-Legged Tripod" which was only used by nobles in the Neolithic Age, the "Red Pottery Bag-Footed Tripod", a symbolic artifact of Shandong's prehistoric culture, the "Yachou Yue" used for rituals in the Shang Dynasty, the "Stacked Bronze Tableware" of Qi State in the Warring States Period, the "Traveling Bell" and "Crystal Agate Beads" from the Spring and Autumn Period, and the "Lu Ji Ding" from the Western Zhou Dynasty. Other exhibits include jade, pottery, bronze and musical instruments, which explain the development process of Qi and Lu culture from the Neolithic Age to the Ming Dynasty. The exhibition also displays important unearthed cultural relics in Hong Kong, including jade halberds, stone axes, stone necklaces, quartz rings, perforated painted pottery plates, white pottery perforated ring-foot plates, bird-shaped pottery pots with handles, etc. Through the comparison of cultural relics from the two places, it explains the "diversity and unity" of Chinese culture. The exhibition is held at the Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre in Kowloon Park, Haiphong Road, Tsim Sha Tsui. It will run until October 6 and admission is free.
