Hohhot Dazhao Temple

Dazhao Temple, also known as Wuliang Temple, is also called the 'Silver Buddha Temple' because it houses a silver Buddha statue. It is one of the most famous temples in Hohhot and the earliest Tibetan Buddhist temple built in the city. Belonging to the Gelug sect (Yellow Hat sect), it covers an area of more than 30,000 square meters and adopts the architectural layout of a Han temple. The main buildings include the Mountain Gate, the Hall of Heavenly Kings, the Bodhi Hall, the Main Hall, the Sutra Pavilion, and the Scripture Hall. The most important buildings in Dazhao Temple are historical relics from the Ming Dynasty . The Silver Buddha is a 3-meter-high seated statue of Shakyamuni Buddha, cast from 30,000 taels of pure silver, making it one of the largest existing silver Buddhas in China. The magnificent temple architecture, precious cultural relics and artworks, and the mysterious shaman dances and music constitute the unique 'Temple Culture' of Dazhao. 🌟Highlights: The grand 'Drying the Buddha' ceremonies held twice a year. On the fifteenth day of the first lunar month and the fifteenth day of the sixth lunar month, a future Buddha image, 2 zhang long and 1.5 zhang wide, is taken out and hung in front of the Buddha Hall for display.
