The Great Temple in Hohhot

The Great Temple in Hohhot is renowned for its beautiful architectural structure and intricate craftsmanship, making it a perfect spot for photography with its blue skies and white clouds. As the oldest Tibetan Buddhist Gelugpa temple in the Inner Mongolia region, it was revered as the 'Emperor's Temple' during the Qing Dynasty. Both Emperor Shunzhi and Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty stayed here and hung an inscription reading 'Long Live the Emperor' in front of the silver Buddha statue in the main hall. Consequently, the Great Temple later abolished the reincarnation regulations of the Living Buddha, making it one of the few temples in the Mongolian region without a Living Buddha. The main hall of the temple was also replaced with yellow glazed tiles.
