It is a shrine of the Gion faith that enshrines Gozu Tenno. It was called Tenno-gu, but was renamed Yasaka Shrine after the separation of Shinto and Buddhism. The grounds are lush with greenery, and the shrine building is at the end of a relatively long approach. It is quite impressive and charming.
