Exploring the Tytyri Mine Museum: A Unique Underground Adventure in Finland! 🇫🇮⛏️

#summervacay I recently visited the Tytyri Mine Museum while I was in Lohja for some Chinese food, and it was quite a unique experience! It's not covered by the Museum Card, probably because it's owned by Nordkalk, the company that operates this underground quartz mining site in Finland. They've already dug over 300 meters deep, so they decided to repurpose some of the mined-out areas for visitors. Full admission is 18 Euros per person for anyone over two years old. For groups of five or more, there's a 20% discount, but for a standard family, it's tough to get that discount. You can book online or buy tickets on-site; it wasn't crowded when I went, so on-site should be fine. If you want to book an English tour, they usually only have one on Saturdays at 1 PM or 12 PM, so check their website for exact times. To get down, you take a Finnish-made KONE elevator 112 meters deep. It's incredibly fast; I barely felt the descent! The elevator quality is definitely impressive. Down in the mine, it's quite cool, around 8 degrees Celsius. What really surprised me was a section they rent out for events! There's a spot equipped for parties or meetings with a projector, tables, chairs, and heating. Apparently, people even hold weddings down there – I can't imagine having a wedding in that environment, it would be so unique! There's also a short film about quartz mining, old mining cart tracks, and even a person dressed as a small monster, which the kids found quite entertaining. Overall, it's a pretty special museum. I wouldn't say it's worth a dedicated trip just for the museum, but if you're already in Lohja, it's definitely worth checking out. On a side note, the Chinese buffet in Lohja (which the museum staff also recommended as the best Chinese restaurant in town) was incredibly good value, especially the barbecue! #tytyriminemuseum #finland #undergroundmuseum #lohja
