Chita Shikoku Pilgrimage: 20th Pilgrimage Site: Ryudai-in

On a warm spring day, I was greeted by the full-blooming cherry blossoms in front of the entrance gate. Ryūdai-in Temple, the 20th temple of the Chita Shikoku Pilgrimage, was built in 1573, the first year of the Tensho era. As I walked along the approach to the temple, on the right side, there were rows of Jizo statues dedicated to victims who died in the Ise Bay Typhoon, and at the back on the opposite side, there was a cemetery, so the Jizo statues were lined up as if to protect the spirits of the victims. At the end of the approach to the temple, there is the main hall where Shakyamuni Buddha is enshrined. To the right of that is the sutra office where you can receive a goshuin after worshiping, and on the left is the Kobo-do Hall.
