It is located at the northeast corner of the Sanxingdui site, which is a key national cultural relic protection unit. Situated by the Yazi River to the west of Guanghan city, it is 40 kilometers south of Chengdu and 26 kilometers north of Deyang. The museum is a modern thematic site museum in China. The new building of the Sanxingdui Museum is the largest site museum building in the southwest region. The museum has two exhibition halls with a display area of nearly 12,000 square meters. It is one of the first batch of national research and practice education bases for middle and elementary school students. On September 20, 2019, it was honored with the title of National Greening Model Unit. On July 27, 2023, the new building of the Sanxingdui Museum opened, and more than 1,500 sets of new and old artifacts were showcased together.
