One of the iconic images of Girona along the Onyar River are many brightly coloured houses, all painted in vibrant shades of brick red, ochre, brown, yellows and rich oranges. This colour palette was decided in the late 20th century by a team of artists and architects. The picturesque houses that line the river are known as the Hanging Houses (Le Casas Penjades).
