Fuzhou Sanfang Qixiang Lantern Crafting

Lantern crafting, selling, and viewing is a major feature of Nanhou Street in Sanfang Qixiang, Fuzhou. During the Lantern Festival, it is a tradition to give lanterns as gifts. Traditional lanterns include the Zhuangyuan (top scholar) on horseback, lotus lanterns, and orange lanterns. With the renovation of Sanfang Qixiang, there are only a few lantern shops left. There is a shop selling handmade lanterns at the entrance of Huangxiang. The traditional handmade lanterns are very nostalgic and remind you of holding a lantern as a child. There are also lantern sculptures on Nanhou Street, which show the long history of lantern making on Nanhou Street.
