[Yamanashi Prefecture] A shrine where a fire festival using large torches is held

Suwa Shrine 🗻 𓂃◌𓈒𓐍 𓂃◌𓈒𓐍𓂃◌𓈒𓐍𓂃 This shrine is a branch shrine within the grounds of Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Shrine. The enshrined deity is Takeminakata-no-Kami. His father, Okuninushi-no-Mikoto, established Ashihara no Nakatsukuni. Amaterasu-Omikami, who claimed that right, sent an emissary. The emissary, Takemikazuchi-no-O, confronted Okuninushi-no-Mikoto, but he said, "My son will answer." Kotoshironushi-no-Mikoto readily agreed, but Takeminakata-no-Kami, who had heard this, objected and challenged him to a contest of strength! After losing the battle, Takeminakata-no-Kami is said to have entered this Fujiyoshida area while fleeing from Takemikazuchi-no-O. It is said that the pursuers mistook the torches carried by the residents for reinforcements and stayed for a while after they left. As a result, Suwa Shrine was enshrined, and as a result, torches and large torches are lit. This fire festival is held every year on August 26th and 27th. As the influence of Fuji worship grew over time, Asama Shrine was enshrined where Suwa Shrine used to be, and the temple grounds were laid out as they are today.
