Wat Phra That Doi Saket

It is assumed that the pagoda or Phra That Doi Saket, which contains the Buddha's hair relics, is more than 1,000 years old. According to legend, during the time of the Buddha, after the Buddha attained enlightenment, he appeared in his divine form on a mountain. Nearby, there was a pond where two Naga serpents lived. They had the opportunity to see the Buddha perform a miraculous miracle. They were impressed and transformed into humans to offer lotus flowers to the Buddha as a Buddhist offering. The Buddha then gave his hair relics to the pair of Nagas before the two Nagas built a stone to enshrine the hair relics. Hundreds of years later, villagers who were devoted built a pagoda instead of the original pile of stones, which became the origin of Doi Saket District and Wat Phra That Doi Saket.
