Yunggang Grottoes

The Yunggang Grottoes are absolutely breathtaking, and a true masterpiece of ancient Chinese art and devotion. Thousands of Buddha statues are carved directly into the cliffs, ranging from tiny figures to towering icons over 50 feet tall. The detail and craftsmanship are incredible, especially considering they’re over 1,500 years old. Walking through the caves feels peaceful and awe-inspiring. It’s well preserved and definitely worth the trip to Datong.
