Dalian Baiyu Mountain - Lushun's Best Viewing Platform

After leaving Laotieshan, I began to return to the main city of Dalian, but on the way, I climbed to a place I had noticed since arriving in Lushun. It was a tall white tower standing on top of a mountain, visible from every corner of Lushun. Curious, I decided to go and see it for myself, and I discovered the best viewing platform in Lushun. This mountain is called Baiyu Mountain, and its 165-meter-high body is lush and green. You can drive directly to the top of the mountain, which is open and flat, and the Baiyu Mountain Tower stands on top of it, looking quite spectacular. However, this tower, which looks very grand, is a mark of shame. The tower was built in 1907 by the Japanese after their victory in the Russo-Japanese War to commemorate the more than 60,000 Japanese soldiers who died in the battle for Lushun. It was built to honor the dead and to show off their military achievements. Of course, today, we can look back on this history calmly as victors, so there is no need to demolish it, but rather to turn it into a tourist attraction. Standing on the platform under the Baiyu Mountain Tower, you can see the entire Lushun military port. Surrounded by mountains, a bay of blue water is open and calm, and the coastline is long. At the entrance to the port, two mountains extend into the sea and are almost connected, forming a perfect gate. The mountains around the port are the highest points in the area, and the fortifications on the mountain tops can deter enemies for miles around. It is as solid as a rock and worthy of its reputation as the first military port in the Far East in modern times. Standing on the viewing platform, the sun sets in the west, and a warship is slowly returning to the quiet port. It is the fleet that fills the military port that has created this peaceful life for us.
