Wat Sri Khun Muang, Loei

Wat Sri Khun Muang is a temple that is a symbol of Chiang Khan, Loei Province. Located in the heart of the community and adjacent to Chiang Khan Walking Street, it's one of the first places you should visit to worship for good fortune and admire the exquisite blend of precious artwork. Artistic and Architectural Highlights Wat Sri Khun Muang is a unique and distinctive collection of art, combining Lanna and Lan Xang (Lao) styles. Ubosot (Sim): Its architectural style is influenced by Lanna, as evidenced by its tiered roof. The pediment of the chapel is carved wood with vine motifs and intricately decorated with stained glass. The staircase is adorned with sculptures of giants and Mom (a mythical lion-like creature). 300-Year-Old Naga-Pronged Buddha Image: Inside the chapel is a Buddha image sitting cross-legged on a Naga-Pronged Buddha image, over 300 years old and believed to be a Lan Xang style. It is highly revered by the people of Chiang Khan. Murals: The front wall of the ubosot (ordination hall) features beautiful murals depicting the Ten Lives of the Buddha (Jataka tales). Although some are newly painted, they retain the exquisite beauty of ancient art.
