Sangzi Village Xiyan Temple Pagoda in Changzhi, Shanxi

Changzhi Shangdang Xiyan Temple Pagoda, also known as Zhangba Temple Pagoda, is located in Sangzi Village, Yincheng Town, Shangdang District, Changzhi City, Shanxi Province. Covering an area of 15.21 square meters, it is an ancient pagoda from the Tang Dynasty. The Shangdang Xiyan Temple Pagoda was built during the Tang Dynasty and was renovated in the 44th year of the Kangxi reign of the Qing Dynasty (1705). The pagoda faces east and sits facing west, with a square base measuring 3.9 meters on each side. It is a six-story brick pagoda with dense eaves, standing about 16 meters tall in its remaining height. On the north side of the pagoda base, there is a stone stele from April 1705, erected by the devotee Wang Junian and the presiding monk Xuánxù, who raised funds to repair the temple. The appearance and internal structure of the Shangdang Xiyan Temple Pagoda are similar to the Small Wild Goose Pagoda in Xi'an, making it of significant artistic value for the study of Buddhist pagodas in the Shangdang area. It is a nationally protected key cultural relic.
