fort Marlborough

Fort Marlborough is a British heritage fort in the city of Bengkulu. This fort was founded by the East India Company (EIC) in 1713-1719 under the leadership of the governor Joseph Callet as a British fortification. That said, this fort is the strongest British fort in the East after the fort of St. George in Madras, India. This fort was built on an artificial hill, overlooking the city of Bengkulu and with its back to the Indian Ocean. This fort was once burned by the Bengkulu people; so the residents were forced to flee to Madras. They then returned in 1724 after a treaty was concluded. In 1793, another attack was launched. In this incident a British officer, Robert Hamilton, was killed. And then in 1807, resident Thomas Parr also died. Both are commemorated by the establishment of monuments in the city of Bengkulu by the British government. After the Dutch left in 1950, the fort of Marlborough became the TNI-AD headquarters. Until 1977, this fort was handed over to the Ministry of Education and Culture to be restored and used as a cultural heritage building. Attractiveness Currently, Fort Marlborough has become one of the attractions that should be visited if you are on vacation in Bengkulu city. This fort stands on a land area of 44,100 square meters. Facing to the south while behind this fort is Tapak Paderi Beach. British architecture of the 17th century is very pronounced in the design of this building. When entering the door, you will enter a place in the form of a hallway where in this hallway you can find 4 burials that read George Shaw (1704), Richard Watts Esg (1705), Kames Cune (1737) and finally Henr Stirling (1774), two of them from the time of the fort York. #fort #park #themepark#nationalpark#beaches
