The dividing line between traditional Spanish culture and Moorish culture

It is about 60 kilometers away from the city of Jaén. Its old town has been declared a cultural heritage. The imposing Fort La Mota stands out in the Arab cityscape of Alcalá la Real. For more than 150 years, the castle marked the border between the Kingdoms of Granada and Castile. The fortress is one of the most extensive enclosures in Ardares and has several defensive walls. The site reproduces the model of a classical Muslim city, with different enclosures used for defensive, residential or religious purposes. Currently, it is also the location of the Frontier Life Visitor Center. After leaving the castle, the Abate Monastery Church is a must-see attraction. Originally built in 1530, its plain exterior contrasts with the stylized Plateresque interior. Walking along the streets towards the Old Town, you can see many beautifully decorated houses and fine examples of traditional architecture, as well as the Baroque building of the Monastery Palace, which houses the Municipal Museum. Some interesting sights in Alcalá la Real include the Trinidad Convent, built in 1752, the Church of Las Angustias or the Consola Church of La Consolación. The Town Hall Square with its characteristic arcades is one of the most charming sights in town. Another place not to miss is the tree-lined Los Álamos Walk, home to the ancient Capuchin Convent and San Antón Church.
