Fortunately, the latest exhibition has officially begun. This time, American artist Peter Anthony will be exhibiting 10 of his sculptures, titled "How Sweet: A Peter Anthony Special Exhibition." These 10 works, created using cakes, donuts, macarons, and chocolate, are so lifelike that they're not only mouth-watering but also packed with visitors. Visitors were snapping photos of the works, each captivating and inspiring. The Mosquito House, once a ferry waiting room, has been revitalized and renovated. #AugustDestinations2025 After driving to Mudan Township, I passed the Mudan Township Memorial Archway. On the right, not far from it, there's a stone pillar with the words "Shimen Ancient Battlefield" written on it. Behind the bougainvillea next to it, the same five characters are also written on it. The Shimen Ancient Battlefield is located at the junction of Mudan Township and Checheng Township. The terrain is precarious, with Shimen Mountain to the north and Wuchongxi Mountain to the south forming a sheer cliff face. After parking, I prepared to visit the Mudan Incident Monument on the mountain. Next to the parking lot stairs, a large stone inscription briefly outlines the Mudan Incident. Behind it, there's a sign indicating the entrance to the Shimen Mountain Trail. The steps from the base of the mountain to the summit are not too long, and there are pavilions along the way for visitors to rest. Upon reaching the summit, a monument stands before you. This is the back of the monument. Standing at the base of the monument, you can clearly see the scenery below and feel the horrific battle scene, where many indigenous people sacrificed their lives. "The dead are gone, but the living can be pursued." May those who lost their lives in the war rest in peace. #The Mudan Incident, also known as the "Bayao Bay Incident" (Bayao Bay is now Mudan Township, Pingtung County), occurred in 1874. Japan used the "murders of Ryukyu castaways" as an excuse to invade Taiwan. After landing, the Japanese army clashed with the Taiwanese indigenous people, especially in the Shimen area, where fierce fighting broke out, known as the Mudan Incident.

The Mudan Reservoir Dam is 65 meters high and 445.6 meters long. It is an earth-rock dam with a daily water supply of 100,000 tons and an annual water supply of 37 million tons, with a storage capacity of approximately 30 million cubic meters. Completed in 1995, the Mudan Reservoir supplies water not only to the entire Hengchun Peninsula but also to the Pingnan region and as far as the industrial areas of Kaohsiung. Mudan Reservoir is the largest reservoir in Pingtung. From the bridge, you can see the majestic Mudan Reservoir spillway gates. A trail leads to the dam's summit viewing area, offering panoramic views of Shimen Village. Surrounded by mountains, the Mudan Reservoir offers captivating scenery. The blue sky, white clouds, and green mountains are reflected in the mirror-like waters, creating a tranquil and poetic atmosphere. Against the backdrop of the blue sky and the surrounding mountains, the Mudan Reservoir is breathtakingly beautiful and refreshing. After visiting Mudan Reservoir, there are other attractions nearby, such as Xuhai Prairie, Xuhai Hot Springs, Shimen Ancient Battlefield, and Mudan Bay.

This is a white lighthouse located at the southeastern tip of Jienshan in Liuqiu Township, Pingtung County, also known as 'White Lantern Tower'. Built in 1929, it was funded by the Kaohsiung Prefecture Fisheries Association at the time. The lighthouse stands 10 meters tall from its base to the top, and its height from sea level to the top is 88 meters. The light from the lighthouse can reach up to 20 nautical miles, and its structure is made of reinforced concrete. Situated in the remote Jienshan area, the road leading to the lighthouse is narrow and steep. During the day, visitors often ride motorcycles to explore the lighthouse due to sufficient daylight. However, at night, few dare to visit as the area is dark and somewhat eerie, making it a daytime attraction for most tourists. Both the White Lighthouse and the Eluanbi Lighthouse serve to guide ships navigating the Taiwan Strait and the Bashi Channel. The White Lighthouse is an international lighthouse, but its interior is not open to the public. Visitors can only take photos and explore the surroundings. It has been designated as an important cultural asset of Xiaoliuqiu.
