Speed Dating in Nottingham for 30s & 40s | Revolución de Cuba Nottingham
May 13, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Nottingham
How Speed Dating Works in Nottingham
When you arrive at the Nottingham venue you will be greeted by our friendly professional hosts. Once everyone has arrived and registered we will briefly explain the format of the evening. The ladies will then be asked to make their way to their allocated table. Once the ladies are seated the gentlemen will be asked to proceed to their first date.
You will have 4 minutes to chat to each date, once the 4 minutes is over we will ring a bell to indicate the time is up and for the gentlemen to move to their next date. Four minutes is long enough to see if you click with the person you are talking to and whether you would like to see them again and also short enough if you don't.
At the end of each date you have a brief few moments to make some notes on the person you have just dated. This is something to help jog your memory for the post event matching process the next day.
Half way through the event you will have an interval break so you can nip to the toilet or top up your drink. Once all the dates are over you have the opportunity to stay on at the venue to mingle freely with others. Please remember to take your dating card home with you to assist you in entering in your ticks and potential matches.
Post Event
No later than 11am the following morning our matching system will be unlocked for you to enter your ticks from the previous evening. You have all day to tick as many people as you like from the night before. We guarantee you will find someone you will want to see again, otherwise we will give you your next

Diamonds and Rust Poetry with Hannah Norris | Nottingham Central Library
May 15, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Nottingham
THE WORKSHOP:
These creative writing poetry workshops, led by Hannah Norris, will encourage you to see and hear poetry everywhere: shopping lists, WhatsApps, pub toilet graffiti and conversations overheard on public transport. Together, we will find inspiration by unlocking clues from the works of traditional and contemporary poets, as well as mining from our own experiences and surroundings.
You will be warmly welcomed to this supportive community, whether it’s your first time writing poetry or you have been writing it for many years.
The sessions will take place on the first Thursday of every month and each month will have a different theme and set of prompts, which you are welcome to interpret as loosely as you like - or ignore altogether, in favour of your own creative impulses. Freedom is key here!
THE TUTOR:
Hannah Norris (she/her) describes herself as an ‘obsessive diary writer’ who turns this material into poetry. She started writing poetry to help navigate her grief following a bereavement.
Hannah also loves to write about the foul-mouthed women in her family and the more mundane parts of life, from batch cooking to soulless retail parks. Hannah’s poetry has been featured in Left Lion, JARG, Streetcake, Postscript, Moonflake Press, Black Cat Poetry Press and on BBC Radio Merseyside.
Hannah enjoys writing poetry that rips up the rulebook around rhyme, stanzas and line breaks. Her favourite poet is Hera Lindsay Bird.
THE DETAILS:
This event will be taking place at Nottingham Central Library. It's a very friendly group who often head to the pub afterwards. No experience needed! Contact admin@nottinghamwritersstudio.co.uk if you have any questions.

Spring Forest Bathing and Nature Identification | Rushcliffe Country Park
May 18, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Nottingham
Join us in our private woodlands at Rushcliffe Country Park for an afternoon of nourishing summertime Forest Bathing and spring nature identification.
What is Forest Bathing?
Forest Bathing, or ‘shinrin yoku’ in Japanese, is the wonderfully
restorative, mindfulness-based
practice of immersing oneself in the forest, woodland or any green space. Whether you practise alone, or guided by a trained facilitator as this session will be, you will gently use your senses to
connect to the natural world
around you. Many studies have shown forest bathing to have a profoundly positive impact on our physical, emotional and mental wellbeing. When practised in a group, it can also provide a lovely, easeful way to not only connect to nature and to ourselves, but to the other people around us.
What is an ID walk?
During our ID walk, I will be guiding and informing you in how to confidently identify a range of interesting species in the woodlands and around the park. During late spring, we can expect to find many interesting flowers in the woodland, as well as lots of leafy plants including many edible ones (note: we will not be eating anything we find on this walk). All the trees should have come into leaf by this point, and many will be producing flowers (and even some fruits). We may also identify other kingdoms of life including: mushrooms, birds, mammals, insects or byrophytes. However, what we find will depend on the weather and will focus on whatever is most relevent and interesting.
The event will be guided by Poppy, a qualified
Forest Therapy Practitioner
. Poppy has also completed various other CPD trainings in wildlife idenitifcation, and is an all-round wildlife enthusiast. Additional information will be sent out to all attendees
