Walk Notts with TNT | Nottingham

May 1, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Nottingham
Cultural Experiences
The end of our BLESS Nottingham event on Thursday 1st May, will signify the beginning of our Walk Notts with TNT fundraiser. Our #WalkWithTNT series has highlighted just some of the breadth and scope of our work that we do here at Transforming Notts Together to overcome poverty and injustice across our City and County. Transforming Notts Together works across the City and County to inspire, equip and connect churches, organisations and projects as they seek to help people break free from poverty. We support: * the 86 Places of Welcome across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire * 22 statutory organisations * 61 voluntary community projects * 249 churches and groups/charities belonging to other, or no, faith. So what is Walk Notts with TNT? Over the course of two weeks, beginning on Thursday 1st May and finishing on Thursday 15th May, we will be visiting as many of the churches, organisations and charities we support as possible. Walking 85 miles across the two week span, we aim to: (a) highlight just some of the amazing work that is happening across our City and County, (b) raise money to overcome poverty and injustice in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, (c) connect churches and projects with each other, and (d) inspire others to get involved in supporting their local church/project. So how can I get involved? Firstly, we would love to invite you to walk with us. To see the amazing beauty in our City and County, and to connect with and be inspired by the work that is already happening. If you would like to get involved, you can find details of our walk in the agenda section. You would be more than welcome to join us! Secondly, you can sponsor our efforts and make a stand against poverty and inequality in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. We know that the rates of poverty are increasing in a City who already ranks as the 11th (out of 317) most deprived district in England using the Indices of Multiple Deprivation. Thirdly, we would love to you pray for us, and for our City and County. We will be praying as we walk (along with chatting) over the churches, projects and general areas that we walk through. May Day Forest Bathing and Crafts | Rushcliffe Country Park

May 4, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Nottingham
Cultural Experiences
Join us in our private woodlands at Rushcliffe Country Park to celebrate May Day and connect to nature in springtime. What is May Day? May Day has long been celebrated across Europe as a symbolism of the beginning of summer , falling halfway between the Spring Equinox and the Summer Solstice. It is a really fantastic opportunity to connect to the season s and to nature as the days get warmer and the flowers begin to truly bloom. For this special event, we will be engaging in nature connection activities including forest bathing and making beautiful flower crowns or spring wreaths out of natural woodland resources! What is Forest Bathing? Forest Bathing, or ‘shinrin yoku’ in Japanese, is the wonderfully restorative, mindfulness-based practice of immersing oneself in the forest, woodland or any green space. Whether you practise alone, or guided by a trained facilitator as this session will be, you will gently use your senses to connect to the natural world around you. Many studies have shown forest bathing to have a profoundly positive impact on our physical, emotional and mental wellbeing. When practised in a group, it can also provide a lovely, easeful way to not only connect to nature and to ourselves, but to the other people around us. The event will be guided by a qualified Forest Therapy Practitioner . Additional information will be sent out to all attendees 3 days before the event by email - if you have not received it by then, please check your spam then message me at wildandwondernotts@gmail.com . Please see FAQs below for information on accessibility, parking and other info. Any other questions, do not hesitate to get in touch. Information Source: Wild and Wonder | eventbrite

Alwyn will be in conversation with Frances White ( Voyage of the Damned). At sixteen, Honora 'Nora' Holtzfall is the daughter of the most powerful heiress in Gammamix; her family controls all the money - and all the magic - in the entire country. But when her mother is found murdered in an alley, the family throne and fortune are up for grabs, which means Nora will be pitted against her cousins in the deadly Veritaz trials to determine the rightful inheritor. But there's a surprise rival in the form of Ottoline, aka Lotte, the illegitimate daughter of Nora's aunt, who was left with nuns as a baby. Thrown into the Veritaz, she is suddenly surrounded by a hostile family she never knew she had. But as the Holtzfalls wage their battles of privilege, something bigger and more sinister bubbles beneath the surface, and revolution is in the air. Incredible tests, impossible choices, and deadly odds await both girls. But there can only be one winner. Alwyn will discuss her new book with Frances before an audience Q&A and book signing. New York Times bestselling author Alwyn Hamilton was born in Toronto and spent her early years bouncing between Europe and Canada until her parents settled in France. Follow @alwynhamilton on TikTok. Frances White is the author of Voyage of the Damned , a fantasy murder mystery at sea. A Nottingham resident, Frances is a creative writing graduate from Royal Holloway University of London. Diamonds and Rust Poetry with Hannah Norris | Nottingham Central Library

THE WORKSHOP: These creative writing poetry workshops, led by Hannah Norris, will encourage you to see and hear poetry everywhere: shopping lists, WhatsApps, pub toilet graffiti and conversations overheard on public transport. Together, we will find inspiration by unlocking clues from the works of traditional and contemporary poets, as well as mining from our own experiences and surroundings. You will be warmly welcomed to this supportive community, whether it’s your first time writing poetry or you have been writing it for many years. The sessions will take place on the first Thursday of every month and each month will have a different theme and set of prompts, which you are welcome to interpret as loosely as you like - or ignore altogether, in favour of your own creative impulses. Freedom is key here! THE TUTOR: Hannah Norris (she/her) describes herself as an ‘obsessive diary writer’ who turns this material into poetry. She started writing poetry to help navigate her grief following a bereavement. Hannah also loves to write about the foul-mouthed women in her family and the more mundane parts of life, from batch cooking to soulless retail parks. Hannah’s poetry has been featured in Left Lion, JARG, Streetcake, Postscript, Moonflake Press, Black Cat Poetry Press and on BBC Radio Merseyside. Hannah enjoys writing poetry that rips up the rulebook around rhyme, stanzas and line breaks. Her favourite poet is Hera Lindsay Bird. THE DETAILS: This event will be taking place at Nottingham Central Library. It's a very friendly group who often head to the pub afterwards. No experience needed! Contact admin@nottinghamwritersstudio.co.uk if you have any questions. Information Source: Nottingham Writers' Studio | eventbrite
