Feb 18, 2025 (UTC+0)ENDED
Liverpool
In celebration of Valentine's day, we are going to paint an embrace. Two amazing artists, who would you choose to paint?
Everyone knows 'The Kiss' by Klimt, one of the most famous and loved artworks of our time, but do you know Turner Art prize winner Chrris Ofili and his painting 'Desire'?
On Tuesday 18th February from 7-9pm, I invite you to join me in exploring these two artists and how they paint; a combination of classical techniques and the pattern making forms of contemporary art.
We will be using oil paint on synthetic paper and you can choose the Klimt or the Ofilito paint or like some at the last session, a combination of the two.
All materials are provided, so you don't need to go to the art shop and spend a fortune. Tea, coffee, water, biscuits will be provided. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

February COMEDY NIGHT | Penwortham Arts Centre 'The Venue'
Feb 21, 2025 (UTC+0)ENDED
Liverpool
Doors Open: 7.30pmFirst Act On Stage: 8.00pmFebruary brings an exciting fusion of comedy styles to The Venue. Imaginative and witty ... Musical and stand up ... Hypnotic and wholly original !For more details, check out the LINE-UP BELOW! :-)DUNCAN OAKLEYDuncan Oakley has been a musician since the age of six, has performed on the UK comedy circuit since 1999, appeared at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, on BBC Radio 4 and at many summer festivals as well as starring in Beat24's feature film 'Frontman' and short film 'Read Between the Signs'.With musical skills that would easily fit into many rock bands, Duncan Oakley performs an infectious mix of musical comedy and stand up with one of his trusty guitars - Maurice (Fender Strat), No.7 (acoustic) or his Les Paul (the Lezza) by his side. With an eye and ear for the silly, rude, playful and downright irritating occurrences of life, Duncan musters up songs that not only make you laugh, they bury into the recesses of your mind and find you a humming tune with a smile on your face 3 days later, confused and wondering where it’s come from. Welcome to the world of Duncan Oakley. -------------------DAVE WILLIAMSDave Williams is a top quality circuit comedian whose crisp one-liners and surreal nonsense have earned him headline slots at some of the countries most prestigious comedy clubs. He’s performed in several countries. In Australia he has headlined the Sydney Comedy Store and appeared at clubs in Melbourne and Brisbane. He has also played in Singapore, Hong Kong, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Doha. His solo shows at the Edinburgh Fringe combined stand-up and character comedy and were a smash hit. The first was described as “a fantastic solo Fringe debut” by The List. The follow-up was reviewed as “A wonderful piece” and included guest interviews with Ross Noble, Adam Bloom, Adam Hills and many others. His subsequent show’ 24-Hour Latte People’ featured in the Manchester Comedy Festival and writing was described as having “shades of Alan Bennett” by the BBC which is a huge compliment. ‘Imaginative and witty he has the audiences eating out of his hands‘ – Funhouse Comedy -------------------ANTHONY J BROWNClad in a sartorially edifying bespoke manner, like a dapper and dandy funeral director, Anthony cuts a unique on-stage presence with humour blacker than a raven that has slammed it’s claw in a coffin lid.Eschewing the well trodden terrain of the one-liner witticism, Mr Brown’s penchant is for 4, 5, 6 and 7-liners drenched in evocative imagery and laced with comedic red herrings. And not the merest hint of profanity. He constantly engages the assembled throng with a cryogenic stare whilst slowly and very gently caressing the microphone stand with well manicured talons. To be quite so casually tactile with an inanimate object in full public view takes a certain confidence, especially whilst punctuating his bizarre and often hilariously misanthropic anecdotes with measured pauses that you could reverse a Heavy Goods Vehicle through. The overall effect is both perversely hypnotic and wholly original, leaving the audience zealously hanging on to every syllable like turncoat lemmings on a rockface. ‘A truly unique performer…superb’ - Reece Shearsmith (‘The League Of Gentlemen’) ‘Jarvis Cocker with a death in the family’ - Metro ‘He made me laugh immediately. I was crying with laughter’ - Doon Mackichan (‘Smack The Pony’) ‘The audience probably have time to nip to the bar and back between the feedline and the punch. That they generally don’t is testament to just how well it works in Brown’s hands, for few would want to miss the next gem to ooze languidly from his lips’ - Chortle ‘A strange, lizard-like creature and polished surrealist… Wonderful’ - City Life -------------------------------------------------------------------------
