Jul 30, 2025 (UTC+1)
Spruce Valley Township
Cultural Experiences
Meet at the Guildhall (river side). Finish at the Joseph Cowen Monument on Westgate Road. The term Civil Rights means so much more than voting. On this walk we will examine the role of some Newcastle men who fought to protect those rights by holding the rulers of the town, and the country, to account during the 18th and 19th century. Unsuitable for wheelchairs because of steep bank up Dean Street. Booking will secure your place but walk-ups will be available on the day. If you are a 2025 season ticket holder, remember you MUST bring along your ticket or you will be asked to pay for your tour. Tour lasts approx 1.5hrs Assistance dogs only. No other pets allowed. Safety Information To attend our walks you need to be reasonably fit, prepared to be responsible for your own safety, and to supervise any children in your care. Appropriate clothing and footwear is recommended. A bottle of water, an umbrella and an extra layer wouldn't go amiss. The British weather is notoriously changeable! Newcastle is an historic city with uneven pavements and narrow passages add to its unique character. There are also often steps to navigate. Our walks take approximately 90 minutes, are you comfortable walking and standing for that length of time? If there’s any activity you are unable to do or if you have a concern, please contact us at newcastlecityg@gmail.com before booking. We try to stick to footpaths and use pedestrian crossings where available. If you have any pre-medical conditions or injuries that may affect you walking or feel unwell during a walk, please let your Guide know. Standard Disclaimer Your participation in the guided walk is at your own risk and we shall not be held liable under any circumstances for any matter arising out of your participation. We accept no responsibility or liability for loss or injury (other than for matters for which we are not legally able to exclude or limit liability). We have public liability insurance. How Speed Dating Works in Newcastle When you arrive at the Newcastle venue you will be greeted by our friendly professional hosts. Once everyone has arrived and registered we will briefly explain the format of the evening. The ladies will then be asked to make their way to their allocated table. Once the ladies are seated the gentlemen will be asked to proceed to their first date. You will have 4 minutes to chat to each date, once the 4 minutes is over we will ring a bell to indicate the time is up and for the gentlemen to move to their next date. Four minutes is long enough to see if you click with the person you are talking to and whether you would like to see them again and also short enough if you don't. At the end of each date you have a brief few moments to make some notes on the person you have just dated. This is something to help jog your memory for the post event matching process the next day. Half way through the event you will have an interval break so you can nip to the toilet or top up your drink. Once all the dates are over you have the opportunity to stay on at the venue to mingle freely with others. Please remember to take your dating card home with you to assist you in entering in your ticks and potential matches. Post Event No later than 11am the following morning our matching system will be unlocked for you to enter your ticks from the previous evening. You have all day to tick as many people as you like from the night before. We guarantee you will find someone you will want to see again, otherwise we will give you your next Speed Dating event for free! Find a Speed Dating event near you https://slowdating.com/ Itinerary 19:00 Registration Starts 19:30 Speed Dating starts 20:15 Interval for drinks, mingling and relaxing! 20:30 Speed Dating continues 21:15/21:30 Speed Dating concludes, followed by optional post-event socializing *Please note the times for the event interval and finish are approximates and will depend of the number of daters at the event. What are Connect Communities Connect communities are vibrant, worshipping communities that are created when those from the Church work with those from the edge to create a mutual space, expressing the characteristics and personalities of the people who attend. Connect Communities provide a consistent gathering place in the city where a mix of people from a background of offending / drugs / homelessness, their family and friends can meet together with those from a church background on a weekly basis. Connect is primarily a relational movement and supportive relationships emerge from this community that overflow into people’s daily lives. Laura Jane Wilkie is a Fiddle player from Tain in the Highlands of Scotland. She has a unique style which has roots in the Highland fiddle traditions but is influenced by an eclectic range of music from all genres. Her latest project ‘Vent’ is centred around ancient women’s work songs - Waulking songs. She studied these to adapt them for the fiddle, immersing herself in the Scottish archives as well as having them passed on from friend, tradition bearer and one-woman-ceilidh, Rona Lightfoot. Laura has toured across the world in various different groups and artists within the contemporary folk music scene, including Kinnaris Quintet, guitar-virtuoso Ian Carr, Ross Ainslie, Salsa Celtica, NITEWORKS and with Scots Singers, Claire Hastings, Beth Malcolm & Siobhan Miller. As a founding member of Glasgow-based Jazz/Funk/R&B/Synth/Folk Juggernaut, Fat-Suit, Laura has been inspired to play with elements of improvisation in different styles, making her a versatile influence on each project. Collaborations include performing, writing and arranging with top bands and artists including Shooglenifty, Man of the Minch, Rachel Sermanni, The Elephant Sessions, Paul Towndrow’s Keywork Orchestra, Fatherson, GRIT Orchestra and many more. Now is the time for Laura to shine in her own right and demonstrate what a versatile, creative and adept artist she is. Information Source: Laughing Dog Music | eventbrite
