The Rugged Man has been an up-and-coming star, an industry outcast banished and forgotten, an underground cult hero, an independent success story, and an influential master of the art form. He can obliterate rappers with ferocious battle rhymes, craft heartfelt personal songs fans can relate to, offend sensitive listeners with shocking vulgarity, challenge corrupt politicians and corporations, paint pictures with captivating storytelling, and deliver jaw-dropping flows that prove his lyrical skills are unmatched. He’s also worked with a staggering number of hip-hop’s most respected artists, including legends like The Notorious B.I.G. , Wu-Tang , Tech N9ne , Rakim , Mobb Deep , Talib Kweli , Kool G Rap , Public Enemy , Brother Ali , and many more. And while others struggle to maintain a foothold in the ever-changing rap landscape. R.A. The Rugged Man is the rare artist who has become more relevant with time, with each new album more compelling than the last. Do not miss this rare chance to see him live. 12th June - Bristol - The Golden Thread Tour - SAMANA | Strange Brew

Jun 12, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Bristol
Concerts
Folk
The Road Records presents : 'The Golden Thread' - an evening of profound music and poetry by Samana held in Strange Brew in Bristol on June 12th. The evening will unfold with a poetry reading set against cinematic landscapes, accompanied by evocative instrumental soundscapes. The poems themselves are an alchemical excavation—an introspective odyssey rich with profound poetic and personal resonance. They delve into the essence of consciousness, the elusive realms of dreams, and the sacred connections that intertwine our minds, our psyche, and the land. This is an homage to the intimate, inseparable threads that shape both our inner and outer worlds. Samana will then perform songs from their eponymous album, alongside new, never-before-heard material. Their music confronts the most profound aspects of the human condition, embracing both its weight and its transcendence. It invites us to reclaim our time, our essence, and our place within the natural world, urging a journey beyond our limitations. Oscillating between melancholic ballads and spiritual awakenings, Samana’s sound guides listeners through cinematic landscapes, invoking ancient beliefs, revolution, healing, the unseen, and the profound depths of love, loss, and death. Born from a nomadic existence and steeped in solitude, Samana’s work draws heavily from the philosophy of dreams, the subconscious, and the transformative power of improvisation. Each song pulses with ethereal energy and unfiltered emotional honesty, offering a direct passage to the spirit—stripping away illusions and revealing the raw, shamanic force that connects us to the very core of our being. This is music that speaks to the soul, igniting the heart and awakening the inner sanctum of our existence. "Our mission is to craft a transcendental sonic journey that dissolves the divide between performer and audience, enveloping all in the intimate embrace of a shared space. The music becomes a living tapestry, a binaural soundscape that resonates within the very walls we inhabit, guiding each listener into a deep, interconnected dreamscape where the ethereal and emotional realms intertwine. Performed within the sacred circle of the round, the experience immerses the soul in a symphony of vocals, bodhrán, gongs, bells, piano, electric guitars, and double bass. The Golden Thread tour weaves together the unseen, connecting spirit, subconscious, emotion, and transcendence in a seamless, timeless flow." Information Source: The Road Records | eventbrite

If you are interested in learning, there will be an introductory lecture on Friday evening and an opportunity to receive initiation and to learn and practise the techniques of Kriya Yoga on Saturday and Sunday. Kriya Yoga is the ancient and mystical path to self-realisation. ‘Kri’ is the work or activity carried out by ‘ya’ the indwelling soul. Yoga is the union of individual self and Supreme Self. Kriya Yoga is a non-sectarian, scientific and practical meditation technique practised by sages and saints since time immemorial. Kriya Yoga leads to the transformation of the physical consciousness into Divine consciousness and is the essence of all yoga’s taught in the world. In order to practise Kriya Yoga, one needs to receive initiation which can only be given with the grace and love of the Master through an authorised teacher, during which the body is purified and energised. The initiate may perceive Divine Light, Divine Vibration and Divine Sound in the whole body. There is no book or lesson to learn the Kriya Yoga techniques. Kriya Yoga emanates from beyond the five sense organs. Registering for the introductory lecture will ensure that you will have a place for initiation on Saturday. You will receive details of initiation once you have registered. Please note that the cost of the initiation is £155 plus a £50 seminar fee payable on Saturday. We would also be grateful if you can complete all the relevant information on the order form as this will be used to ensure that your initiation is properly recorded. SELAH The Gathering 2025 | Bristol Beacon

Jun 14, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Bristol
Cultural Experiences
Following the amazing time we've had at both the Men's gathering in June and the Women's in September, we are pleased to announce that the next SELAH gathering is set for June 2025! The Lord has continued to speak to us about drawing near, of having intimate communion with him and taking that ‘Selah’ moment. So we are very excited to announce our next SELAH event will be happening on 14th June 2025. God has beautifully bought together everything. We have our guest speaker coming all the way from 'Christ for all nations church' in Florida, Eric Gilmour. We are very much looking forward to his teaching and encouragement. Along with our very own Pastor Craig Bennett who shared at the last Selah men's gathering, plus worship from Jamie Hill, Lucy Burden, Jules jones, Andy Oates and Harvey Phillpot. This year's event is going to bring the men and the women together as one. As such we have found a bigger venue that is easy for people to access, The Lantern Hall in the The Beacon, Bristol. With Parking just across the road, so very easy access. We all have extremely busy lives that carry many responsibilities, which can ultimately impact on quality time with the Lord and with each other. Selah 2025 aims to bring together sons and daughters of God, to be ministered to and to minister to one another. Therefore, we want to provide a space that this is not primarily an evangelistic event, but a space where we can simply pause and be refreshed. We are continually encouraged to build one another up and serve one another in the New Testament. Throughout the day, we will have the chance to worship God together in fellowship and hear from his word. We believe that God is ready to do a new thing in our lives and reignite a fire within the church. However, we must be willing to make space to be a part of it. A message from our Chef Celia: “Hello, my name is Celia and I am from Hong Kong. In a previous life I worked in a stressful corporate career, but I always longed to live my passion: cooking. So, I finally found the courage to quit and now I have been teaching cookery classes for over seven years. I’m still motivated to explore and push my boundaries in the kitchen. I would say my style is East meets West. I enjoy mixing and matching ingredients to create more complex and unique flavours. I try to use local, seasonal ingredients so that my cooking is fresh and economical and people learn what their local ingredients are. I am also a food stylist: I want my food to not only taste good but look beautiful too. I love the common language of food: how it brings people and cultures together, and how we can share recipes and learn new tastes and skills. But most of all, I love how eating together makes us happy. I look forward to cooking and eating with you!” We’re excited to have you in the class! Please take note of a few final reminders: We will send you a reminder email 3 days before the class takes place that will include our In-Person Class COVID-19 Policy . Bristol Parent Carer Forum hosts coffee mornings from schools for parent carers of children and young adults that have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). There is no need to book but if you can, that is helpful. Please come along for a chat with our volunteers and other families who “get it”. We are happy to talk through any problems or issues you are facing over a nice cup of tea (or coffee!) and you can find out more information on what support is available locally for your child or a child you care for. If you need additional support to access this coffee morning such as support with English or other adjustments, please let us know. An important role of the Parent Carer Forum is to hear about the experiences of parent carers in Bristol. We would like to hear from you about your experiences with SEND services so that we can be sure that your voice is heard and that we can shape the future of SEND services together. Stories that Inspire - June | Bishopston Library

Bristol
Cultural Experiences
Welcome to Stories That Inspire . Join us at Bishopston Library for a morning discussing books you've loved, and practising journal techniques to leave you feeling motivated to write more. Are you ready to discover the inner writer within you? Or have you had ideas about writing a book? The Friends of Bishopston Library are co-hosting the next event in the series of the writing group and book club with a difference, called “Stories That Inspire” As well as talking about inspiring books, we will cover practical tools to help you practise writing, think and plan your stories, creating a safe space for you to share some of your writing, if you wish. If you love the idea of writing more, come and join us. One participant from the last month's circle said, "I really enjoyed the meeting and left feeling that perhaps I can put pen to paper after all!" Sharing our stories is a great way to share your expertise and life lessons, which is a gift for people following in your footsteps. This supportive group is designed for you especially if your stories are linked to the work you do or a change you'd like to see in the world. Perhaps you will gain confidence in the power behind sharing them - even if it's not in a book. Poetry, blogs, podcasts and videos are other creative routes to reach your audience. Debs is hosting this group to create an enthusiastic, supportive community of people who love books and want to explore how creativity helps support positive thinking and wellbeing. Do bring and share a book you love or one which changed your life. Some of the books we talked about before are shown in the image below.
