Join artist Amy McGurk for a playful, expressive, and experimental three-day workshop at Sunnybank Mills, where we will explore greenery and nature, mark-making and texture, and zine-making. Taking inspiration from the beautiful surroundings, we’ll experiment with watercolour and mixed media to capture landscapes in fresh and creative ways. Through sketchbook-based exploration, you’ll develop expressive mark-making techniques and create your own unique responses to the environment. Course Level: This workshop is open to anyone aged 13+ and welcomes all levels of experience. It’s a chance to experiment, explore, and have fun while connecting with the landscape through art. We recognise the amazing talent of young people, but ask that anyone under the age of 18 is accompanied by a caregiver, as this is a session for all. Materials and What to Bring Watercolour and some materials will be provided, but feel free to bring your own favourites (graphite, coloured pencils, ink, pastels, etc.).If you have a favourite sketchbook, bring it along! Otherwise, paper will be provided, and sketchbooks are available for purchase at the gallery store.Weather permitting, we’ll spend time sketching outdoors—so dress accordingly! This course will run Friday 1st, Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd August. Starting at 10am - 12pm. Artist bio: Amy McGurk is a Leeds based travel and nature illustrator documenting her travels throughout her detailed and colourful sketchbooks. Painting while travelling, using watercolour and mixed media, she creates lasting impressions of the places she visits. With a particular focus on the nuances of local wildlife and nature, she uses reference photographs from her hikes through unfamiliar landscapes. As well as being inspired by nature, she also aims to capture and illustrate an array of cultural experiences and landscapes. Whilst travelling (or in Leeds!), she often has limited time at each stop and only a small amount of art supplies. By limiting the amount of time, the materials, and stepping out of her comfort zone, she can create some interesting textures, marks, and composition ideas that reflect the uniqueness of each place. These scribbly, messy, imperfect pages become beautiful memories or can be developed into finished paintings when she returns home. Amy has taught workshops and classes across Leeds and online and is an exhibiting artist. When attending a workshop you can receive 10% off within the Gallery Shop on the day of your session. About the venue Sunny Bank Mills is an inspirational cultural destination in the heart of the local community of Farsley, Leeds. Founded in 1829, these glorious Mills are being regenerated by the sixth generation of the family owners, creating a wonderful blend of work, leisure and culture. Course terms and booking conditions Workshop and course bookings can be cancelled and refunded up until 7 days before the scheduled start date. As materials and equipment are ordered in advance, we regret that refunds cannot be offered less than 7 days before the workshop date. Please note that Eventbrite’s booking fee is non-refundable. If we need to cancel the course for any reason your ticket will be fully refunded. Information Source: Sunny Bank Mills | eventbrite

Join us SSB & author Julia Seales to celebrate the follow-up to Julia Seales’s bestselling debut, A Most Agreeable MurderThis in-person event will be held at Solid State Books on H St. NE. Don't miss out! London provides fabulously deadly opportunities for a fledgling inspector to make good, in the twisty & delightfulA Terribly Nasty Business After achieving her lifelong dream of solving a murder, bringing a killer to justice, and proving she is not, in fact, a morbid creep, Beatrice Steele feels like everything is finally falling into place. She’s traded her etiquette-obsessed community of Swampshire for the big city of London, accompanied by her ever-trusty chaperone, Miss Bolton. They’ve settled in a lovely neighborhood, Sweetbriar, known for its proximity to the Sweet Majestic theater, picturesque pleasure gardens, and an unfortunate infestation of flying squirrels. But Beatrice’s favorite part is that Sweetbriar is also home to D.S. Investigations, the new office she opened with the prickly, annoyingly logical Inspector Drake to solve the city's brutally thrilling crimes. However, nothing is turning out how Beatrice imagined it would. Sir Huxley, famed gentleman inspector and Beatrice’s former crush, is still considered the real investigator in London, so the only cases left for Beatrice and Drake are lost pets and spectacles. Not that Beatrice has much time for crime-solving, anyways, as her mother still expects her to find an eligible (rich) husband to protect their family from destitution. Beatrice is struggling to balance all the demands on her and begins to wonder if she can become a true detective in a city that feels full of false promises. That is until a string of murders thrusts Beatrice and Drake into the center of a scandal that pits the neighborhood’s wealthiest against the arts community, spreading fear and chaos throughout the city. As they follow the trail through bewildering ballrooms, secretive shops, and odd operas, Beatrice must survive threats to her partnership, her business, and her place in society to break the case--before it's too late. Julia Seales is the author of A Most Agreeable Murder, and a screenwriter based in New York. She earned an MFA in screenwriting from UCLA and a BA in English from Vanderbilt University. She is a lifelong Anglophile with a passion for both murder mysteries and Jane Austen. Julia is originally from Kentucky, where she learned about manners (and bourbon). Join us for a two hour in-person poetry workshop at the Birmingham and Midlands Institute in the city centre on Saturday 2nd August from 1pm. Led by hybrid writer Tania Hershman. Mashups and Collisions When two or more unlikely objects collide, what magic might result? In this workshop we'll be bringing together and colliding all kinds of things — from physics to fairy tales, detectives, spaceships, insects and histories — giving you permission to play so that you can find new ways to write the poems you want to write in whatever form you want to write them - with a few flash fictions and hybrids slipped in the mix! We'll be looking at examples of mashups and playing with different types of colliding and seeing what emerges! Tania Hershman is a queer writer of odd things, short, very short, and longer. A poet, writer, teacher and editor based in Manchester, Tania is the author of nine books: her second poetry collection, Still Life With Octopus, was published by Nine Arches Press in July 2022, and her debut novel, Go On – a fictional memoir-in-collage partly inspired by being writer-in-residence in Manchester’s Southern Cemetery – by Broken Sleep Books in November 2022. Tania's writing has won various prizes and awards. She is editor of the charity anthology FUEL: 75 Prize-Winning Flash Fictions Raising Funds to Fight Fuel Poverty (Feb 2023), and was honoured to be Arvon’s writer-in-residence from Nov 2022-April 2023. JST Compete National Junior + Youth Training camp | CrossFit DeltaFox

Sports & Fitness
JST Compete has a passion to help and support aspiring athletes, and those who will be the future of our sport are at the heart of many things we do. There is no one size fit for any person’s development, especially in the sport of fitness, where everyone is trying to reach their full potential. This isn’t reached just through an online training program, it comes in many other forms. JST Compete's original name was JST Compete 'programme’, and one of the definitions of this is… “a set of related measures or activities with a particular long-term aim.” To be clear, we don’t just write training programs for people to follow, because that isn’t sustainable for the person. We’ve created a community of humble, respectful, hardworking people that take responsibility for their own personal excellence. We educate athletes in a way that empowers them, and we have a pathway that provides direction.
