Art Poetry: Abstract Watercolour Painting with Allison Dawrant | Kensington Art Supply & Instruction

Apr 29, 2025 (UTC-6)ENDED
Calgary
Arts
Fine Art
Join artist Allison Dawrant in this captivating and relaxing day of abstract watercolour journaling. In this workshop, you will let go of any “rules” and quiet the noise of busy days by painting abstract watercolour backgrounds in your own voice. Through rich, colour-craving exercises, you will discover your voice and be “breaking blank pages” in a fun, therapeutic way. You will also explore your own “mark-making” techniques with various materials over dried watercolour backgrounds, helping you learn what resonates most in your own process of creating. Allison introduces an easy way to create colourful and uplifting art journal pages by letting the watercolour work its magic. Allison will offer tips and tricks along the way for both beginners and more experienced artists. Everyone is welcome! This art journal process can be addictive when you learn to tune out any judgment of the process of creating. REFUND POLICY: Kensington Art Supply can issue full refunds for cancellations 7 days before the event. Late cancellations and absences will not result in a full refund. Chinatown Clay Club WEDNESDAYS | 110 3 Ave SE

Apr 30, 2025 (UTC-6)ENDED
Calgary
Cultural Experiences
Clay Club offers an affordable and accessible space for individuals to learn fundamental ceramic hand-building techniques. All proceeds benefit Good Neighbour's free clothing store, which provides clothing, food, and other essential items to those in need. HOW IT ALL WORKS You will receive hands-on assistance from our facilitator as needed. However, we do not offer structured lessons or specific project teachings. Previous experience with clay may come in handy. If you are looking for more structured and in-depth learning, please check out our 4-week beginner hand-building course! Clay Club is designed for you to bring your own creative ideas and is focused on independent practice. Once you have finished making your pieces, they will be stored on our shelves until you are ready to return and paint them. For optimal results, we recommend applying underglaze when the clay is bone dry, it takes about a week for clay to completely dry. While you can paint your pieces when they are still wet, the colors may not be as vibrant or opaque. Please note that all pieces must be painted/fully finished before we proceed with firing. Alternatively, you may choose to have your pieces fired as-is, without painting. If you decide to wait for your pieces to dry first and paint on a later date, you will have to pre-register by purchasing our $20 ticket option. We have all the tools and supplies needed to create, however, you’re welcome to bring your own tools. We ask that you complete your projects within 2 months of your initial start date as we have limited shelving space. We understand life can get busy, so please let us know if you're unable to return right away so we can accommodate you. FIRING We fire all completed work once a month to keep costs low. All pieces will be fired at the end of each month. Example: If you finish your pieces in November, they will be fired after the last Clay Club session of the month. Firing and glazing ceramics is a time-consuming process, so it may take up to four weeks to complete all firings after the monthly cut-off date. We will notify you via email once your pieces are fired and ready for pick-up. As a private studio, we are only open to the public during scheduled class and event times. Our email will include specific days and times available for picking up your work. TICKET INFO Red Ticket: You will receive up to 2 lbs of clay per session; more clay is available for $3 per pound if needed. Unused clay amounts are not transferable to future sessions. You will also have access to our coloured underglazes. Blue Ticket: Bring your own clay! Acceptable brands are Plainsman, PSH, or Tuckers and must be cone 6. Purple Ticket: No clay is provided. You will have access to our coloured underglazes to paint and finish pieces made from previous weeks. Cancellation Policy : Please provide at least 24 hours' notice so we can fill your spot. Tickets are final sale and non-refundable but can be transferred to future dates. -Any questions?
