This show is about dreams, the absurdity of life and quirks of our diverse society. “Deadpan Absurdity” — Stewart Lee, The Guardian Immensely likable stage presence and sharp storytelling — SLEEC Reviews Dima’s comedy is built on taking risks, and when those risks pay off, the results are golden — SLEEC Reviews Ukrainian Dream is a must-watch for anyone who has ever lived abroad or is curious about the expat experience. Its humor, heart, and authenticity make it stand out in the sea of other comedy shows — Midlothian View🤣 Expect spicy jokes and ridiculous life stories about the state of the world, Berlin techno clubs, emigration, online dating, interracial relationships, shark attacks, and more significant topics. But don’t worry – he hasn’t lived there long enough to lose his sense of humor. His unique comedic style is a mix of absurdity, social commentary, and some allegedly inappropriate jokes. And yes, Watermelon is his real last name, simply translated into English. Dima has performed in over 30 countries, including renowned locations like Gotham Comedy Club in New York, The Comedy Store in London, and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Having lived in three different countries and visited over forty, Dima is no longer simply Ukrainian, but not quite European either. Stuck in this absurd cultural limbo, he finds laughter is his best coping mechanism.

Your contribution makes a meaningful difference. https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/frei-raum-berlin-and-8ight German below The exhibition unites works by eight artists who have previously presented individual installations at frei-raum.berlin, each piece reflecting the central themes of systems and infinity through the progressive growth of acoustic sources. The works span from Daria Redkina's Air'Finite, where weather balloons transform into musical instruments through electro-mechanical systems, making air audible through breathing sounds and reed vibrations, to mergrim's 51.428571428571429, born from mathematical imperfection. Here, seven speakers arranged in a circle emit a loop every 5.14 seconds, producing an ever-evolving sonic landscape. This mathematical approach converges with Cem Çakmak's Beating Variations, 60-80Hz, where you physically experience bass frequencies through two modified floor panels, becoming part of the wave patterns generated through acoustic interference. The concept of cycles unfolds in Varoujan Chetirian's The Distance Between for five sound sources, where sound journeys through space and time. Echoes and reverberations bridge past and present, while archival voices and current field recordings from a decaying Armenian space center permeate the room. The Acoustic Heritage Collective's Notes on Narrow Backroads weaves a spatial narrative inspired by *Matsuo Basho's* travel writings through six sound sources. The installation creates a polyphonic landscape that shifts with every movement in the space. In Bells and Cannons, Özcan Ertek presents three large brass discs resonating with field recordings of church bells and cannon shots in endless sonic cycles. This rhythmic installation dialogues with Diaphonie_K∞ by Ernesto Longobardi and Anna Turina, where two Kodak Carousel projectors generate perpetual Red Yellow Blue (RYB) sound patterns, creating an ever-recurring choreography of light and shadow. Ani Samperi's Tears of Ice : an experiential process where water drips from melting ice in an inverted oil barrel onto a silver platter, manifesting transience through resonance and feedback. United in the Projektraum Kunstquartier Bethanien, these works will form an environment where each piece contributes to a larger system of meaning. The exhibition structure itself shall become a metaphor for infinity - not as an abstract concept, but as a tangible experience of cyclical processes, systemic interactions, and perpetual transformation. FREE ENTRY – Take action and engage in this local art project — check out our handpicked 8ight Collector’s box and make a donation to support us. Your contribution makes a meaningful difference. ARTISTS #1: TEARS OF ICE by Ani Samperi (US)
#2: BEATING VARIATIONS, 60-80Hz by Cem Çakmak (TR)
#3: BELLS AND CANNONS by Özcan Ertek (TR)
#4: DIAPHONIE_K∞ by Ernesto Longobardi (IT), Anna Turina (IT)
#5: THE DISTANCE BETWEEN by Varoujan Chetirian (CH)
#6: NOTES ON NARROW BACKROADS by Acoustic Heritage Collective (ES/DE)
#7: 51.428571428571429 by mergrim / Takahisa Mitsumori (JP)
From Tehran to Reeperbahn - English Comedy Special by Shahin Asmari | The Wall Comedy
Feb 5, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Berlin
About the Show: Studying English at the university in Iran is an odd choice which can turn one into the black sheep of the family. Pursuing the same subject in Germany is another level of weirdness! From Tehran to Reeperbahn is the first special by the Iranian comedian, Shahin Asmari, who tells his stories of how he decided to move to Germany for his master studies and how Trump's travel ban for Iranians paved the way for him to plan a longer stay in Germany, becoming a comedian to keep his sanity in the depressing winters of north Germany. The show focuses on how a person from a closed up country like Iran, feels as an expat living at the heart of Europe, namely Germany, and how different, yet the same the two countries are. The process of integration, learning the language, adopting to the German culture and the blunders on daily basis are the stories which will make you laugh all through the night. The show is well suited for expats living in Germany, and Germans who would like to delve into the mind of immigrants who face the dilemma of identity after getting citizenship, being neither fully German, nor of the nationality they used to possess. About the Comedian: Shahin Asmari, a 90s kid, born and raised in Iran , has been doing comedy for the past three years, both as a comedian and as a host, running the only weekly English comedy in Hamburg i.e. Burning Mic Comedy Show. On the pursuit of becoming a full time comedian, Shahin started with the first open mics right before the pandemic (perfect timing, yeah!). However, since the start of 2022, he has been one of the active members of the comedy scene in Hamburg by running shows and performing in three languages. Apart from Hamburg, Shahin has also done shows outside of Hamburg inside and outside of Germany: Paris, Milan, Aarhus, Vienna, Budapest, Barcelona, Munich, and Berlin to name a few actually. He has also been the opener of some big stars like Max Amini and Negah Amiri.

Lesung mit Arthúr Björgvin Bollason – Island | Nordische Botschaften Felleshus / Gemeinschaftshaus
Feb 5, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Berlin
