Here's the deal:
So first up, you'll
get a pint or two from the bar
, perhaps chat to Nathan who will bore you about which beers he's made that week that are actually any good. You can also
order a pie and chips
to have during the break if you fancy it.
Arrive literally anytime before 7.45pm
.
By 8pm
, you'll take a seat, and our
expert M/C for the evening, Aaron Williams
, will be getting the night going. He's harmless though, and actually very good, so don't worry about sitting in the front row.
Opening the line up, you'll see
Max Ponsonby
, desperately trying to convince his parents this comedy thing is going to work out. Although, he might have a point, having just performed at a 350 seater theatre in Bromsgrove last month.
He'll be followed by
Archie Dunnett
, who quite frankly is just attention seeking at this point, and doesn't realise that nearly a year of singing a song about a meerkat on stage is really starting to put his girlfriend off. Got him a trophy at the Project Mayhem comedy awards this year though...
Just before 9pm
, we'll have a short interval to break the seal.
Grab another pint or three
. Oh, and if you ordered a pie and chips, this is when you scran that.
Going into the second half you'll have
James Jarvis
. James describes himself as "alternative", whatever that means. Usually that means it's brilliant but you spend your time wondering why you're enjoying it so much..
To finish you off (winky face) we have
Our
H
eadliner: Johnathan Hipkiss!
Johnathan has had endorsement from Jack Whitehall, Jon Richardson, and has won a multitude of awards. Hence why he is pocketing the headliner fee. Go Johnny go.
Last entry is 7.45pm, show starts promptly at 8pm, and will be finishing at 10pm.
If that isn't enough, throughout the night, we will also be gracing you with
FREE SAMOSAS
! Oh we are spoiling you aren't we. You lucky little lot...

Heavy Thursday with Trev! Rising Sun | The Dice Box, Victoria Terrace, Leamington Spa, UK
May 15, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Royal Leamington Spa
The great and forgotten Kami have returned from the underworld, displeased with the affairs of the Empire’s present Shōgun. At the start of spring in the Great New Year, the Kami have gathered their sacred clans with one quest: reclaim the lands of Nippon and return them to their honorable, spiritual traditions. However, each clan is bound by their own proud traditions to a unique vision for this great return and must wage a powerful diplomatic war across eight provinces. Alliances must be forged, betrayal is inevitable, honorable standing rises and falls. Political mandates must be navigated and devastating war must be fought, each won by expert skill and cunning negotiation. And only one may stand victorious at the coming of winter. You, honorable Shōgun, lead one of these great clans. Do you have the strength of honor, virtue, and spirit, as well as the mastery of steel necessary to deliver on this ancient promise?
Rising Sun
is a board game for 3 to 5 players set in legendary feudal Japan. Each player chooses a Clan and competes to lead theirs to victory by accumulating Victory Points over the course of the Seasons. Each Clan possesses a unique ability and differs in Seasonal Income, Starting Honor Rank, and Home Province.
Over the course of the game, players will forge and break alliances, choose political actions, worship the gods, customize their clans, and position their figures around Japan. In the process, Honor is a palpable element in
Rising Sun
: Having high Honor gives several advantages, while having low Honor may grant the allegiance of the darker elements of the world. But above all, Honor settles all disputes: Whenever there is a tie, the tied player with the highest Honor wins.

blues @ temperance | McHales Permanent Brew | Temperance
May 17, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Royal Leamington Spa
We are delighted to announce that McHales Permanent Brew will be returning to Temperance. What a brilliant band they are, so do get your tickets well in advance. We will be recording the gig and are hoping to release it as a 'live from Temperance' album.
McHale’s Permanent Brew
McHale's Permanent Brew formed in 2017 in honour of their love of 60 & 70's inspired guitar based blues rock. The band would continue to evolve over the next couple of years, releasing its debut self titled album and developing a sound that would make for an electrifying live set. Hard work and determination would see the North West based band sharing the stage with the likes of Dr Feelgood, Triple J (Feat: Jeff Rich of Status Quo), Xander & The Peace Pirates, Crow Black Chicken, Warner E Hodges and 60's psychedelic pioneers Atomic Rooster. The band would go on to cement its live reputation with a defining set on the main stage at 2022s HRH Blues VI festival.
HRH Blues Festival – o2 Academy Sheffield – 9th April 2022
‘Probably the only time a great band has made their debut at HRH & played to more people than the Quireboys…’ HRH Crowd
‘A very difficult day for most of the bands on the main stage at HRH Blues yesterday – because the first band on, McHales Permanent Brew took the roof off….’ HRH Crowd
‘This weekend, McHales Permanent Brew…my butterflies just started dancing when I typed that…they were special, very very special indeed for me and from the moment they went on stage and ripped the place apart I was hooked….’ Event organiser
Waterloo Music Bar – Blackpool – May 2021
Ian Fletcher who runs the Waterloo Music Bar in Blackpool posted the following after one of our shows earlier this year:
‘One of the most pleasurable things for me as a venue owner is introducing new music to the clientele. I don’t think I’ve had as much feedback about a band in a long time as I did on Saturday. McHale’s Permanent Brew certainly turned plenty of heads. For those that weren’t there to see these boys and Blackballed, you certainly missed out big time. If you see these boys playing close to you GO.’

Greg Brice
returns as part of his April/May Duo Tour featuring
Jack Thomas
on bass.
Nominated for the third year running in the 2025 UK Blues Awards - Best Acoustic Act, Best Contemporary Act and Emerging Act of the Year.

Blues in Britain
- 'incredible talent as a guitarist and songwriter'
Fatea
- 'the most exquisite finger- picked acoustic blues that you could wish to hear.'
Back when Greg Brice played the pubs, clubs and bars of the West Midlands he'd often find some of the toughest audiences you could imagine hanging on his every word within a few bars. His intricate fingerstyle guitar and strident electric slide connected in the raw and immediate way that only proper roots music can.
Following the release of his debut album, it's the quality of his song writing that's capturing people's imagination.

Royal Leamington Spa
HANNAH WHITE - FREE & SINGLE TOUR 2025
From the French chanson ‘Sans Deséspor’ to celtic-inspired ‘Mother You Are’ to the grungy ‘Don’t Despair’, this last year has seen award-winning Hannah White release a brand new single every month, and they have been making waves along the way. With glowing reviews applauding her “effortless, suave pop sensibility” (
Fresh on the Net
) and "irresistible cinematic soundtrack” (
W21Music)
creations, the songs have been championed by Cerys Matthews, aired nationally on BBC Radio 2 & BBC 6 Music and led to an invitation for a ‘Live in Session’ show on BBC Radio Scotland.
The artist
Holler Magazine
described as
“Americana’s answer to Mike Skinner. More Patsy Palmer than Cline”
began 2023 by earning a Americana Music Association UK Best Song Award, and ended it with the release of her much-anticipated album ‘Sweet Revolution’ which reached #17 in the Official UK Americana Charts and #14 in the Official Independent Album Charts, earning her
two wins at this year’s 2025 Americana Music Association UK Awards for ‘Album Of The Year’ and ‘UK Artist Of The Year’
, and one for guitarist husband Keiron Marshall who was awarded ‘UK Instrumentalist Of The Year’.
Her typically British, self-deprecating humour does nothing to diminish the emotion which
Acoustic Magazine
described as
“arresting and wholly believable”
. Hannah White is an artist who has
“a wittiness to her grittiness and a sparkling wink in her poetry”
; One who personifies authenticity. Her shows are the true story of a person whose path has taken her from homeless single mother to internationally recognised award-winning artist and, needless to say, one who leaves nothing in the dressing room.
Uncut Magazine
called her’s
“an expressive voice and songcraft”
, whilst
Krentenuitdepop, Netherlands
attested this is
“roots music on par with the best currently being made in the US
”.
Fatea Magazine
said
“songwriting from the top drawer”
whilst
3 Chords And The Truth
agree
”we are in the midst of a seriously fine songwriter”
.
“If soul is a feeling, a fire that burns inside you, then Hannah White is without a doubt a soul singer”

Heavy Thursday with Ryan! Moonrakers | The Dice Box, Victoria Terrace, Leamington Spa, UK
May 29, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Royal Leamington Spa
Moonrakers
is a game of shipbuilding, temporary alliances, and shrewd negotiation set in a space-faring future. The players form a loose band of mercenaries, but while they are united in name, actual alliances are shaky as players are pitted against each other in the quest to become the new leader of the Moonrakers.
Moonrakers
is a deck-building game in which players choose Contracts to attempt alone or with Allies in order to gain Prestige and Credits. After negotiating terms with Allies, players use their decks of Action cards to play Thrusters, Shields, Weapons, Reactors, and Crew to fulfill the requirements on each Contract. Each type of Action card has additional effects such as extra Actions, drawing additional cards, and protecting players from Hazards encountered while attempting Contracts.
Players create powerful decks and gain special abilities by upgrading their ships and hiring Crew Members. This helps them accomplish more difficult and rewarding contracts alone, letting them keep more Prestige and Credits for themselves.
Allies negotiate who will receive the Prestige, Credits, and risk of Hazard from Contracts, but if you don't make your offers enticing enough players may be tempted to betray you! The first player to 10 Prestige wins, but be careful as hazards encountered on Contracts reduce your Prestige!

Leamington Spa - Powered Up Business Networking - May 2025 | The Fat Pug
May 29, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Royal Leamington Spa
We are back at The Fat Pug!
Powered Up Business Networking (PUBNetworking) is an “out of hours” networking event that does away with the usual networking formalities.
You’ll get to learn about the people behind the business - without a torrent of sales pitches …and bland tea and coffee. And you’ll get to have a lot of laughs whilst you’re at it!
As you know, the best business connections are the people you want to spend time with outside of work. They’re the people you can trust, and whose company you enjoy. PUBNetworking is the place to find them.
We have a loose structure, relaxed atmosphere and the opportunity to learn from other business experts - with no strings attached.
Just bring yourself, your e-ticket and your best smile and you’re good to go.
Each event has four objectives…
Meet awesome people
We have a wide range of business people that attend. From start-ups to those with 30 years experience - across a wide range of industries. Everyone that attends is under no obligation to attend (we have no memberships, or contracts) so they’re there purely to meet people like you.
Build long-lasting relationships
We believe in a 'people buy from people' philosophy. In a relaxed environment, everyone feels comfortable and the connections you make are less forced, and more genuine. You’ll get to know each person in more detail - and have a good time doing so.
Learn things without pitches
Each event is productive and valuable. And we want everyone to walk away having learned something new. Our speakers offer genuine value, without sneaky sales pitches. We want you to take what you learn and use it to benefit your business.
Have fun
And above all, we want you to have fun. Sometimes that’s easier with a drink in your hand (it also makes the terrible jokes slightly more tolerable…). Our networking events are all about you, your passions and your business success.
What’s happening this month?
For this meeting, our speaker is the awesome Tejal Prajapati. Her talk is called "Design, how effective communication is key to success."
Good design isn’t just about how things look, it’s about how well people understand them. In this talk, Tejal will share how clear, simple communication helps design ideas land better, projects run smoother, and teams work well together. Whether it’s explaining your thinking or listening to feedback, how you say things is just as important as what you design.
Location
Held at The Fat Pug, we have their function room all to ourselves. And a great selection of drinks too!
Plan for the night:
7.30 - Meet, greet & network. Your chance to sign in, grab a drink and speak to anyone you’d like.
7.50 - Introduction from Amanda.
7.55 - Your chance to tell the room about yourself with a PUBNetworking difference…
8.20 - 1-2-1 with someone you like.
8.35 - Grab a drink/have a break.
8.50 - Presentation from Tejal.
9.15 - Close the meeting and optional further networking.
9.30 - End/move into The Fat Pug to have a further drink should you wish.
Important:
Due to the nature of the venue, and room size, there are a limited number of spaces available.
If you’d like to come along and enjoy a great evening of laughs, laid-back networking and actionable business help, reserve your space with an e-ticket now.
Tickets cost: £14.77
(And there’s probably no better way to spend it!)
See you there!

We welcome former lead singer from the Beautiful South who will be bringing her new band, Southern Beauty to Temperance. They will be playing Beautiful South songs, in an avant-garde jazz style together with other classic jazz standards. This will be a very special evening and another not to be missed.
Alison Wheeler has carved out a stellar reputation for herself in the fiercely competitive music industry through her exceptional vocals, unparalleled song-writing abilities, and captivating stage presence that mesmerises fans across the globe. Hailing from Daventry, England, Alison's love for music was ingrained in her from a young age by her parents, who introduced her to a wide array of music genres ranging from pop and rock to jazz and blues.
Alison's music career kicked off at Cambridge University, where she formed a covers band called Melt City with successful record producer - Hal Ritson of The Young Punx and Kev Dowd of Lowbrow & Topers. Moving to London in 1995, she joined the indie band Junk (with founding member of The South - Phil Barton), where she quickly gained a reputation on the Camden and Islington gig circuit. This culminated in her joining the girl band Virginia in 1998, which led to appearances on BBC Radio, TV shows in Northern Ireland, and success in the US airplay charts.
In 2002, Alison's work with London gospel band Citizen K brought her to the attention of Dave Hemingway of the Beautiful South. She collaborated with Hemingway on his solo project, and he recommended her to Paul Heaton, the driving force behind the Beautiful South, to replace departed band member Jacqui Abbott. With the release of "Gaze" in 2003, Alison became a permanent member of the Beautiful South and during her time with the band she headlined Glastonbury Festival, supported Robbie Williams at Croke Park, toured the world and appeared on numerous TV & Radio shows in the UK.
When The Beautiful South split in 2007 due to ‘music similarities’, The South rose from it’s embers and over the past 14 years they have continued to celebrate the sound of The Beautiful South with Alison fronting the band over hundreds of performances throughout the UK and Europe.
Alison continues to write, collaborate and perform in several successful projects, including The South, Topers, Action Amanda (with a no.1 on the iTunes Charts), and Southern Beauty.
She has built a loyal fan base and earned critical acclaim for her work. Despite her numerous triumphs, Alison remains grounded and focused on her music, always striving to connect deeply with her listeners. She continues to explore new sounds and collaborations, and recently launched Southern Beauty to reinterpret the Beautiful South's back catalogue in an avant-garde jazz style intertwined with other classic jazz standards. Alison is hoping to prolong the life of these wonderful songs and at the same time maybe bring the songs to new audiences who might not necessarily know much of this infamous British institution.
Alison's versatility as a performer, combined with her immense talent, has made her a celebrated voice in British music, and her music career continues to flourish. She is a true artist who is deeply passionate about her craft, and her genuine love for music shines through in everything she does.

folk-rock @ temperance | The Redhills | Temperance
Jun 8, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Royal Leamington Spa
“An almighty folk-rock roar…It’s like Bellowhead facing off with Eddie Van Halen. But it works a treat” – Stratford Herald
“They were simply stunning. They played a set of mostly traditional music but done in such a fresh and enjoyable way that I spent most of the evening grinning like a child who’s been given the keys to a sweetshop. Oh, and they rock!” - Atherstone Folk Club
“Their arrangements were clever and well thought out. The exchanges between instruments were ingenious and skilfully executed: they are all clearly excellent musicians. Their two sets were a joyful demonstration of good folk music delivered with style and aplomb. Go and see them if you haven’t already. Highly recommended “ Nuneaton Folk Club
“The Redhills played to an enthusiastic crowd who danced to every moment of their set. A huge Thank You” -Jagfest
THE REDHILLS
The Redhills are based in Warwickshire and have been playing traditional music in their current line up since 2015
Playing “louder and prouder” than your average folk rockers, the overall effect is of a lively & tight rock band, but there can be almost anything from the traditional music canon of the British Islands folded into their arrangements – a song of the sea, lively jigs and reels, a broadsheet tale of ‘orrible infamy and murder, a street cry or a hornpipe. Often several of the above in one number! They occasionally drop in the odd original song, a folky cover, a Zappa number or a dub arrangement of a trad piece when the mood takes them..
The band have played at both mainstream folk and “non folky” festivals and clubs, bars, pubs and other events all over the midlands and further afield. Redhills performance are
always
lively, energetic and fun. Several reviewers have described their music as “infectious” (in a nice way!) and it is not uncommon to see audiences get up and spontaneously start to dance.
The Redhills are: Maria Barham (vocals, acoustic guitar and whistles), Jim Black (guitars and vocals), Nick Ellison (Fiddle, Mandolin and vocals), Nick Mew (bass, guitars, vocals) and Nate Walker (Percussion).

blues club @ temperance | The Swaps // Stevie Watts // Ben Holder | Temperance
Jun 11, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Royal Leamington Spa
Our
blues club
nights have become one of our most popular evenings of the month. And deservedly so too. They get better and better and, in December, it was a real Christmas cracker. What a brilliant evening.
There were many highlights, but “Sweetheart” was a particular favourite. A great
Swaps
song taken to another level with the Hammond organ of
Stevie Watts
, percussion from
Ben Haines
, guitar from Jason Page and harmonica from
Tomohiro Sugisaka
(Tomo). Check out the video above. The best version of this song we have heard. Wonderful stuff.
Like many events these days, our blues clubs are now sold out for January, February, March, April AND May. So, we are reasonably confident that the June one will sell out too. And probably very quickly.
We have been working on the line-up and this is going to be another very special one.
This will feature
The Swaps
(and, if the stars align, Tomo), the return of
Stevie Watts
on keys (hopefully with Shanade too) and the debut blues club appearance of
Ben Holder
, a word-class violinist. And maybe some other surprises...
Ben is no stranger to Temperance – he has performed here a few times with John Coghlan (original drummer with Status Quo). He will be bringing his own jazz swing trio in January (that too has sold out).
Usual format with different permutations to keep the sound guy guessing and an all-star jam at the end. Get 'em quick.
