Country
Armed-to-the-teeth with new and original music, Vincent Flatts Final Drive are going full bore into 2024 and beyond! Nothing but full-on, southern-infused, good-time, country rock ‘n’ roll. And it won’t come retail. Wholesale only. Keep your eyes peeled for a gallon of new songs, all released online, and a tanker-load of gigs at venues up-and-down the country and beyond. Now, if you don’t know the band yet, you’ll feel like you do once you see them live. Stephen “Bertie”Burton fronts the band, and his killer voice and come-one-come-all stage presence hits every last person right between the eyes. Come see for yourself. He’s the real deal. In the 80s, Bertie fronted UK rock band Starfighters, touring the USA with AC/DC on their Back in Black tour and Ozzy Osbourne on his Diary of a Madmant our.In the 90s he fell in love with country music. The real kind. And it was then the Flatts was born. Fast forward 20 years and Bertie’s high-octane, no-holds barred approach to life and living took its toll. After some much-needed time out, he joined three other musicians (each nearly half his age) to reform his baby. Together, they've become a force, with critics likening their live performances to legends like Little Feat, and modern acts like Blackberry Smoke and the Zac Brown Band. Since then, the band has performed at venues and festivals across the UK, Europe and Scandinavia. They've also recorded an EP, an albumand have a whole slew of new material set to be released throughout 2024. So, watch out. This year, the band has gone wholesale. All or nothing! Information Source: Temperance | eventbrite

Simply Dylan is as straightforward as the title suggests: no frills, no gimmicks and no pretence. Led by front man John O’Connell, the band delivers a tribute to Bob Dylan celebrating the rich and diverse work of the award-winning artist. It is their interpretations, precise playing and high energy renditions of some of Dylan's back catalogue that has caught the attention of many Bobcats. What started as a modest project in 2011, recognizing Dylan's 70th Birthday, the success of the band has been nothing short of remarkable from selling out the Cavern Club 6 times, to receiving fantastic reviews from audiences across the UK, to opening up the Isle of Wight Festival on the Big Top Stage. www.simplydylan.com QUOTES: “Together, they marry the extraordinary range and beauty of Dylan's lyrics with the joyous and exuberant, celebratory sound I have always secretly wanted to hear whenever, in recent decades, I have listened to Bob Dylan.” Alan Bleasdale, Playwright “A show every Bob Dylan fan should see.” Louder than War “Johnny is one of the most talented musicians I have come across and his Dylan set is effortlessly brilliant." jazz @ temperance | Southern Beauty ft. Alison Wheeler (Ex Beautiful South) | Temperance

Jun 7, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Royal Leamington Spa
Concerts
We welcome former lead singer from the Beautiful South who will be bringing her new band, Southern Beauty to Temperance. They will be playing Beautiful South songs, in an avant-garde jazz style together with other classic jazz standards. This will be a very special concert and another not to be missed. Alison Wheeler has carved out a stellar reputation for herself in the fiercely competitive music industry through her exceptional vocals, unparalleled song-writing abilities, and captivating stage presence that mesmerises fans across the globe. Hailing from Daventry, England, Alison's love for music was ingrained in her from a young age by her parents, who introduced her to a wide array of music genres ranging from pop and rock to jazz and blues. Alison's music career kicked off at Cambridge University, where she formed a covers band called Melt City with successful record producer - Hal Ritson of The Young Punx and Kev Dowd of Lowbrow & Topers. Moving to London in 1995, she joined the indie band Junk (with founding member of The South - Phil Barton), where she quickly gained a reputation on the Camden and Islington gig circuit. This culminated in her joining the girl band Virginia in 1998, which led to appearances on BBC Radio, TV shows in Northern Ireland, and success in the US airplay charts. In 2002, Alison's work with London gospel band Citizen K brought her to the attention of Dave Hemingway of the Beautiful South. She collaborated with Hemingway on his solo project, and he recommended her to Paul Heaton, the driving force behind the Beautiful South, to replace departed band member Jacqui Abbott. With the release of "Gaze" in 2003, Alison became a permanent member of the Beautiful South and during her time with the band she headlined Glastonbury Festival, supported Robbie Williams at Croke Park, toured the world and appeared on numerous TV & Radio shows in the UK. When The Beautiful South split in 2007 due to ‘music similarities’, The South rose from it’s embers and over the past 14 years they have continued to celebrate the sound of The Beautiful South with Alison fronting the band over hundreds of performances throughout the UK and Europe. Alison continues to write, collaborate and perform in several successful projects, including The South, Topers, Action Amanda (with a no.1 on the iTunes Charts), and Southern Beauty. She has built a loyal fan base and earned critical acclaim for her work. Despite her numerous triumphs, Alison remains grounded and focused on her music, always striving to connect deeply with her listeners. She continues to explore new sounds and collaborations, and recently launched Southern Beauty to reinterpret the Beautiful South's back catalogue in an avant-garde jazz style intertwined with other classic jazz standards. Alison is hoping to prolong the life of these wonderful songs and at the same time maybe bring the songs to new audiences who might not necessarily know much of this infamous British institution. Alison's versatility as a performer, combined with her immense talent, has made her a celebrated voice in British music, and her music career continues to flourish. She is a true artist who is deeply passionate about her craft, and her genuine love for music shines through in everything she does. Information Source: Temperance | eventbrite

EVERYTHING MUST CHANGE - Songs of Revolution and Redemption VOX POPULI performs songs by Nina Simone, Johnny Cash and Randy Newman in new arrangements by Harvey Brough, with the Orchestra of the Swan and soloists Dan Copeland, Emily Dankworth and Kate Brook. Join Vox Populi as they perform a diverse selection of great songs originally sung by artists such as Nina Simone, Johnny Cash and Randy Newman. Mississippi Goddam, Don't let me be Misunderstood, Redemption Day, Strange Fruit are reworked by Harvey Brough for soloists, choir and orchestr for the first half of the concert. The second half features a career overview of Randy Newman's songs. Unlike most singer songwriters who wear their hearts prominently on their sleeves, Randy Newman often writes in character - his songs feature a rogue’s gallery of dodgy types, ordinary joes, sleaze-balls,, giving many of his songs a determinedly edgy atmosphere. His songs can be acerbic but also hysterically funny - You’re Dead is an ode to a washed out rock star who still insists on treading the boards, and The World Isn't Fair is a debunking of capitalism, addressed to Karl Marx. There are also tender and affecting songs - Louisiana 1927, and I Miss You (an exquisite song, with the slight sting in its tail being that he wrote it for his first wife, while with his second). We also perform some of his well known songs from fIlms, including Toy Story - the gorgeous When She Loved Me and You Got a Friend in Me. This is a fabulous selection of Randy Newman’s oeuvre, an array of songs which range from exquisitely touching to hilariously offensive (often at his own expense) with all shades in between.
