May First Square

Wuyi Square is a bright pearl in the hearts of more than 2.83 million people in Taiyuan. Around the square, towering high-rise buildings, hotels and shops, radiating a flat road extending in all directions, the avenues are woven like a weave. The southern end of the square is a large lawn with green grass and vitality, the northern end is a majestic and rough bridge lying in the air, and in the middle is a fascinating sound and light-controlled fountain and a large sculpture more than ten meters high. Even its underground has been fully utilized, it is a shopping mall with a wide variety of goods and a variety of destinations. The predecessor of Wuyi Square was the former site of one of the eight gates of Ming Taiyuan City and one of the gates, which was called "Cheng'en Gate" at that time. Its scale and shape are second only to Yingze Gate. The mansion gate in the city crosses the Red Fourth Archway and faces the Cheng'en Gate. The emperor's imperial edict was introduced through the Cheng'en Gate, and the Zhu family in the city also mostly came and went through this gate. It has a history of 530 years. According to the local county annals, there is a majestic tower at the gate of Cheng'en Gate, Yuecheng outside the big city, and an arrow tower on the Yuecheng. In the middle of the Qing Dynasty, a mountain torrent from Dongshan rushed down the southeastern city wall and destroyed the Cheng'en Gate and the arrow tower. Later, the gate was rebuilt, and since then the Cheng'en Gate is also known as the New South Gate. The newly built Chengguan and Yuecheng have a total of 902 crenels, which are one of the main gates of Taiyuan city defense.
