I must have one good meal of couscous every time I am in Paris, this time it was at La Soumman. La Soumman is on a wonderful quiet, romantic street tucked away in the Latin quarter, yards away from Notre Dame, and steps from the river. I ordered the couscous royale, an enormous serving of fluffy couscous, outstanding broth, and a selection of five different kind of meats. My wife had the full menu with an entre and dessert for 19 euros- a bargain compared to much of the food in the area, especially when you consider the quality. The wine, while not spectacular, was also a good value (we ordered a bottle of cotes du rhone). While the room isn't spectacular, it is well appointed with North African pottery and photographs. The service, while not overly formal, was welcoming and kind. Please go, there were only a few other people at La Soummam and I want to make sure it is there when I am next in Paris.
