House of The Huangcheng Chancellor
floating colors...
Guo Yu Old Town (郭峪古城) is located in Jincheng, Shanxi Province, China. Accessible by private car or bus, it it located almost directly opposite the House of the Huangcheng Chancellor.
Cross the small square and you can buy tickets at the front gate. Once inside, you will be lost in a maze of small courtyards and alleys, decorated with beautifully-colorer umbrellas...providing a perfect backdrop for taking photos.
The architecture is old and charming and walk to the back to see the impressive tower for a close-up photo.
It is quiet here during the daytime because this place comes to life at night, where it is lit up and many tourists come to witness the pretty spectacle. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area anyway.

whose house is this???
The famous House of the Huangcheng Chancellor (皇城相府-总宪府) is located near to to the city of Jincheng in northern China's Shanxi Province. This place can be reached by car or bus and the best time to visit is Spring or Summer, as the warm sunshine allows for good photo conditions. Tour guides are available at the front gate, along with maps and souvenirs.
The place itself is fantastic for exploring, as there are numerous small alleyways and courtyards. You can also go inside the many buildings and see the beautiful relics and artefacts. The architecture is stunning and mysterious at the same time. Climb to the upper terrrace to see the wonderful tower and a panorama of the surrounding countryside. Jincheng Haihui Temple Glazed Pagoda | Rare in the World.
|Rare in the World. Haihui Temple was first built in the Sui Dynasty. In the Tang Dynasty, Emperor Zhaozong of Tang, Li Ye, gave it the name "Longquan Zen Temple," and Emperor Taizong of Song, Zhao Guangyi, gave it the name "Haihui Temple." There are two pagodas in Haihui Temple. The shorter one is called Liang Pagoda, which was first built in the second year of Longde in the Later Liang Dynasty of the Five Dynasties. It was a pagoda built to commemorate the relics of Master Shunfan, the builder of the temple. The taller one next to it is called Ming Pagoda, which was built in the 44th year of Jiajing. It is a 13-story octagonal brick pagoda. Since the 10th floor of the pagoda has a circle of glazed flat seats in the style of a hanging pavilion, it is also called the Glazed Hanging Pavilion Pagoda. Usually, the pagoda that can be visited is the taller one, but the aisle is a bit narrow. The view from the top is truly spectacular, with a bridge spanning two mountains on one side and the recently renovated Haihui Temple on the other. A fee of CNY 30 is required to climb the pagoda.
Transportation: Take bus 201 from Jincheng East Bus Station (Bus Station) and get off at Haihui Temple Station. Walk for five minutes to reach the Haihui Temple Visitor Center.

If you're tired of the hustle and bustle of the city like me, come here and shout together.
Shengwangping Scenic Area is located at the top of Xicheng Mountain in Yangcheng County, Jincheng City, Shanxi Province. The main peak is 1,888 meters above sea level, making it the largest subalpine meadow in North China. Xicheng Mountain, also known as Shengwangping or Dongping, covers an area of 20 square kilometers and is a provincial-level geological park in Shanxi.
As you step into Shengwangping, a vast alpine meadow unfolds before your eyes. There is a perennial water pool here, known as Niangniang Pool. It is not only a beautiful natural landscape but also closely connected with history, culture, and legends, attracting many tourists. Looking around, you can see herds of cattle and horses, creating a vibrant scene. The cattle bathe and drink water in Niangniang Pool, while the horses leisurely graze, swishing their tails. In addition, there are ruins of the Tangdi Temple in the scenic area. The erosion of time has left only broken walls, like an old man silently telling stories of the past, instantly transporting people to that distant era.
The scenery of Shengwangping Scenic Area varies throughout the year. In the golden autumn, Xicheng Mountain is colorful and breathtaking. August is the best time to visit Shengwangping, with blue skies, white clouds, subalpine meadows, and cattle and sheep everywhere. It is the most beautiful grassland in Shanxi. Those familiar with it know it as Shengwangping. From August 23 to 25, a hip-hop music carnival will be held here, creating a lively atmosphere. On the 23rd, resident singer Alamei will perform live, singing the love story of Baba. Here, you can not only dance and party on the grassland but also experience hot air balloons for free, offering a different perspective to appreciate the vast grassland.

The Perfect Blend of History and Nature—The Ancient Charm and New Look of the Imperial Prime Minister's Ecological and Cultural Tourism Area
The Imperial Prime Minister's Ecological and Cultural Tourism Area is a tourist destination rich in historical heritage and enchanting natural scenery. This grand ancient architectural complex was once the residence of Chen Tingjing, a famous prime minister of the Qing Dynasty. Stepping into this place feels like traveling through time, allowing one to personally experience the splendor and elegance of ancient Chinese noble residences.
First and foremost, the architectural design of the Imperial Prime Minister's complex is ingenious, with layers that not only serve defensive purposes but also deeply reflect Confucian cultural influences. The interior is adorned with carved beams and painted rafters, exuding an ancient and elegant charm. Every detail reveals the prosperity and cultural accumulation of the Chen family during their glorious period. Whether it's the towering and majestic gate towers or the bookish atmosphere of the library, touring the complex offers a sense of both architectural grandeur and the weight of family history.
In addition to historical buildings, the Imperial Prime Minister's complex boasts rich ecological landscapes, allowing visitors to appreciate ancient architecture while getting close to nature. The surrounding mountains and waters, along with the exquisite gardens, seamlessly blend with the ancient architectural complex, creating a beautiful picture of 'mountains embracing water and a scholarly family.' Strolling through such an environment brings immense joy and relaxation, as if one is in a paradise.
Especially in autumn, the layers of red leaves covering the hills complement the ancient buildings, creating breathtaking scenery. The Imperial Prime Minister's complex is not only a pilgrimage site for history enthusiasts but also an ideal place for nature lovers to relax their minds.
This visit to the Imperial Prime Minister's complex is both an exploration of ancient Chinese culture and a thoroughly relaxing nature trip. Here, I deeply felt the weight of history and the tranquility of nature. Whether it's the architectural details or the ecological beauty, everything makes one linger. For tourists who love historical culture and natural landscapes, the Imperial Prime Minister's complex is undoubtedly an unmissable destination.

Guoyu Ancient City.
Guoyu Ancient City is very close to the Imperial Palace Mansion. If you visit the Imperial Palace Mansion in the morning and you are not in a hurry, you can visit Guoyu Ancient City.
There are not many places worth visiting in the ancient city. One is the Imperial Edict Museum, the other is Yulou, and the third is the city wall. The others are optional.
The Imperial Edict Museum displays some of the imperial edicts issued by the emperors of the Ming and Qing Dynasties and related documents, the emperor's dragon robe, official uniforms, official hats, etc., and some weapons.
Yulou and the Heshan Building of the Imperial Palace Mansion are similar in shape. The biggest difference is that you cannot visit the Heshan Building, but you can visit Yulou. The most unique place in Yulou is the tunnel. Be sure to climb the building and then walk through the tunnel. You can quickly climb the city wall from the tunnel entrance.

Guoyu Village, a famous historical and cultural village in China.
Guoyu Village is located in Beiliu Town, Yangcheng County, Jincheng City, Shanxi Province. It is a famous historical and cultural village in China and a castle-style village at the foot of the Taihang Mountains. Here is a detailed introduction to Guoyu Village:
- Historical origin: Guoyu Village has a long history and was first built in the early Tang Dynasty. During the Ming Dynasty, Guoyu was a village, and in the Qing Dynasty, it was called a town. In the sixth year of the Republic of China (1917), the village system was implemented, and Guoyu Village was renamed Guoyu Village.
- Architectural features:
- Ancient houses: The existing traditional courtyards maintain their original architectural layout, form, materials, and craftsmanship. The overall design and construction are all from local craftsmen, which is a true reflection of the local architectural culture tradition.
- City walls and towers: Guoyu City was built in the 11th year of Chongzhen in the Ming Dynasty (1638) to defend against the peasant rebel army such as Gao Yingxiang, Li Zicheng, and Zhang Xianzhong. The city is an irregular shape with a narrow east-west and long north-south, 400 meters from north to south, 300 meters from east to west, 12 meters high, 5.3 meters wide, and 1400 meters around the city. The castle has three city gates in the east, north, and west, and one east water gate, with ten enemy buildings. Therefore, the city wall of Guoyu is also vividly called the "honeycomb city wall".

Ula Relics | Jincheng · High City of Ramparts, firmly preserved in Yu
| Jincheng · High City of Ramparts, firmly preserved in Yu. Ula Relics | Jincheng · High City of Ramparts, firmly preserved in Yu.
1️⃣ Many tourists consider Guoyu Ancient City as an affiliated scenic spot of the Royal City Xiangfu, possibly bypassing it due to time constraints. However, in terms of the value of ancient relics alone, I think Guoyu Ancient City surpasses Xiangfu.
2️⃣ Observations:
Guoyu Village is the hometown of Zhang Pengyun, the Shuntian Inspector of the Ming Dynasty, Zhang Ersu, the Minister of Justice of the Qing Dynasty, and Wang Chongxin, a wealthy merchant in the late Ming and early Qing Dynasties. It is also where Chen Tingjing, the owner of the Royal City Xiangfu, grew up, and the place where the predecessor of the Third Military Medical University, the Seventh Military Medical University, was established.
Its history is long, built by the Guo family, and named after the surname. Guoyu was first established in the early Tang Dynasty. During the Ming Dynasty, Guoyu was a li, and in the Qing Dynasty, it was also called a town. In the sixth year of the Republic of China, the village system was implemented, and Guoyu Li was changed to Guoyu Village.
3️⃣ Guoyu Village is large in scale and complete in form. The ancient building area of the village reaches 180,000 square meters, with city walls and towers, official residences, residential houses, temples and ancestral halls, shops and workshops, gardens, gatehouses and screen walls, wells, and ruins. It is not only an ancient architectural complex with strong local characteristics in the Qinhe River Basin but also a beehive-like ancient fortress group.
4️⃣ Guoyu Ancient City is praised by ancient architecture experts as a gathering place of Chinese ancient architecture. The existing traditional courtyards maintain their original state in terms of architectural layout, form, materials, and craftsmanship. The overall design and construction were all done by local craftsmen, truly reflecting the traditional local architectural culture. Although it has been designated as a scenic spot, the modifications to the ancient relics are limited, preserving much of the ancient charm.
5️⃣ The city kilns of Guoyu Ancient City are very distinctive. There are more than six hundred kilns in the city, densely packed like a beehive, hence Guoyu City is also called "Beehive City".

Ula Ruins | Jincheng · The legendary Huihai Temple.
| Jincheng · The legendary Huihai Temple. Ula Ruins | Jincheng · The legendary Huihai Temple
1️⃣Huihai Academy and the Imperial Palace are joint ticket attractions, and there is a shuttle bus between them. However, compared with the Imperial Palace, Huihai Temple is more quiet and clean. This ancient "Tsinghua Peking University" is deserted.
2️⃣Observation:
Huihai Temple, also known as Longquan Temple, is located in Yangcheng County, Jincheng City, and is one of the main temples in Yangcheng County. The temple was founded in the Tang Dynasty and was initially named Guoyu Temple. In the first year of Qianning of Tang Zhaizong (894), Tang Zhaizong gave the name "Longquan Zen Temple". In the seventh year of Taiping Xingguo in the Northern Song Dynasty (982), Song Taizong also gave the name "Huihai Temple".
3️⃣There are Buddhist temples in the Jin, Yuan, Ming, and Qing Dynasties in Huihai Temple, which is a group of valuable ancient buildings. The existing buildings have obvious traces of new repairs, and there are basically no ancient statues.
4️⃣There are two classical garden areas on the east and west sides of the central axis of the Buddhist temple. They make full use of Longquan water as a pool, pool, swamp, lake, waterfall, and flowing water, and the Yellow River Jiwan, which greatly increases the aura of the temple. The main courtyard, monk courtyard, and tower courtyard are beautifully arranged. The most interesting thing is the glazed hanging pavilion pagoda, which is praised by ancient architectural experts as the "national treasure". It is a good example of Chinese pavilion-style towers.
5️⃣There are also famous landscapes such as "Huihai Longqiu", "Liu Shangqu Shui", and "Longyan Feipu" in the temple, which have high ornamental value.
6️⃣Huihai Temple in the temple, also known as the famous Huihai Academy. In the past, there were people who went out here, including the Ming Dynasty Shangshu Wang Guoguang, Zhang Shenyi, and the Qing Dynasty Xingbu Shangshu Bai Yinqian, Wenyuan Pavilion University Scholar Chen Tingjing, etc. There was one university scholar, three books, dozens of scholars, and countless scholars.

Half-day tour of the Wang Family Courtyard.
Half-day tour of the Wang Family Courtyard
1️⃣ After two days of planning, we finally decided to go to Jincheng. We searched for the specific address online and decided to take the mountain road instead of the highway to the Wang Family Courtyard in Shanxi.
We set off from Jiaozuo at around 8am on Sunday. There weren't many cars on the road. The trees on both sides of the road were lush and the sunlight wasn't too harsh. The slight breeze made us feel very happy.
2️⃣ After driving on the mountain road for about an hour, we finally arrived at our destination, the Wang Family Courtyard. We learned that this "Wang Family Courtyard" was the residence of Chen Tingjing, the prime minister during the reign of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty. However, he only lived here three times. There is a huge archway in the manor, which clearly introduces the high-ranking officials and positions of the Chen family. The highest-ranking official was Chen Tingjing.
Next to the archway is the prime minister's mansion built by the Chen family for Chen Tingjing. The door is not big, but it is very exquisitely repaired. I carefully touched these bricks. Some of them have been baptized for hundreds of years, and some are maintained for cultural protection. After entering the inner courtyard, I found that the Chen Mansion is really big. You can see Chen Tingjing's study, bedroom, and some documents about his life. Especially the bedroom, simple, simple, without too much decoration, unlike the luxury and complexity introduced in TV dramas, but simple and simple. You can see obvious traces of cleaning in the room, clean and tidy. These details all reveal the intentions of the builder of this mansion.

The Imperial City Mansion, an astonishing official residence castle
Picture 1 shows the carvings on the courtyard wall inside the castle, depicting a monkey picking grapes, which is so vivid and interesting. Pictures 15 and 16 show the Chunqiu Pavilion at the northwest corner of the outer courtyard of the castle. Pictures 17, 18, 19, and 20 all show exquisite wood and stone carvings inside the inner courtyard of the castle.
The first gate at the entrance of the scenic area is the Imperial Book Tower. It is not uncommon for city towers to serve as the gates of residences in Shanxi. The Wang Family Compound is also a castle-style building, but it is rare to see city towers with inscriptions by the emperor! The plaque and couplets on the city tower were personally inscribed by Emperor Kangxi (the top of this tower is covered with golden tiles)! Pictures 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6.

The Imperial Prime Minister's Residence, the most magnificent ancient castle of official residences in China
In the land of Jincheng, Shanxi, stands a grand and magnificent architectural complex from the Ming and Qing dynasties—the Imperial Prime Minister's Residence. This colossal work, which has endured centuries of wind and rain and spans the Ming and Qing dynasties, is like a solidified history book, quietly narrating the past glories and vicissitudes.
Here is the former residence of Chen Tingjing, the teacher of Emperor Kangxi, revered by the world as the residence of the imperial tutor. Chen Tingjing, the Grand Secretary of the Wen Yuan Pavilion of the Qing Dynasty, concurrently the Minister of Personnel, the chief editor of the Kangxi Dictionary, and the lecturer for Emperor Kangxi for 35 years, his wisdom and talent shine brightly in the long river of history. The glory and splendor of his family are vividly displayed in every brick, tile, plant, and tree of this mansion.

2024 Cultural 'Summer' Tour (Eighteen): The Glazed Twin Towers of Haihui Temple
The twin towers of Haihui Temple are located in Beiliu Town, Yangcheng, Jincheng City, Shanxi Province. Due to their different construction periods, they are also known as the Liang and Ming twin towers. The two towers stand tall to the north and south, with distinct styles—one tall and slender, the other short and stout.
The shorter tower in the front courtyard is a hexagonal, ten-tiered, nearly 30-meter-high hollow brick pagoda built during the Five Dynasties and renovated during the Song Dynasty. Because the brick walls outside the tower are filled with Buddha niches, locals also call it the Thousand Buddha Tower. Unfortunately, all the thousand Buddha statues in the niches have been destroyed, and their true appearance can no longer be seen. The murals inside the tower are said to be very exquisite, but they are not open to the public, making it rare for visitors to see them.
The taller tower in the rear courtyard is a hollow glazed pagoda, also known as the Tathagata Tower. It is said that the reason for building this tower was that during the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty, the pagoda in the front courtyard tilted, and to solidify the foundation and protect the brick tower, this glazed tower was added.
The glazed tower is an octagonal, thirteen-tiered, over 50-meter-high brick and stone pagoda. The eaves of the tower are all brick carvings imitating wooden structures, with glazed eaves and copper bells hanging from the flying corners.
Each side of the tower body has many Buddha niches, with partial glazed decorations. The glazed tiles on the tower were made by the Qiao family of Yangcheng, whose glazed works are world-renowned. The Ming Dynasty glazed lions in the Forbidden City in Beijing and some glazed products in the Ming Tombs were made by the Qiao family of Yangcheng.
The most marvelous feature of this tower is the suspended pavilion on the tenth tier, which extends half a meter outward. The railings are made of fully glazed tiles, with 24 green glazed columns standing on the balustrades. The tower walls are inlaid with glazed murals, and the eaves columns on both sides are decorated with glazed coiled dragons, showcasing exceptional craftsmanship that is breathtaking. The intricate design and luxurious beauty of the glazed decorations make the tower awe-inspiring whether viewed from afar or up close.
The entrance ticket to the glazed tower is 30 yuan. After purchasing the ticket, visitors can enter the tower and climb up the narrow stone steps to the suspended pavilion to enjoy the pleasure of a high vantage point. The ancient tower in the front courtyard, which has tilted westward due to subsidence, has maintained its balance under the protection of the glazed tower in the rear courtyard and has stood for a thousand years without falling, earning the nickname 'China's Leaning Tower of Pisa.' The twin towers together form this unique and unparalleled spectacle.
The glazed suspended pavilion pagoda of Haihui Temple is an excellent example of Chinese pavilion-style towers, praised as a 'national treasure' and 'the crown of famous towers in Shangdang.'

You must visit the 'Imperial Prime Minister's Residence' in Shanxi
Known as the 'First Cultural Giant Residence in Northern China,' it is the former residence of Chen Tingjing, a famous prime minister of the Qing Dynasty and teacher of Emperor Kangxi. The architectural style of the Imperial Prime Minister's Residence is unique, with inner and outer city walls totaling over 780 meters in length, an average height of about 12 meters, and a width between 2.5 to 3 meters. The inner city was built during the Ming Dynasty, while the outer city was constructed in the Qing Dynasty. The entire architectural complex is built along the mountain, with a well-arranged layout, integrating various functions such as official residences, literati's former residences, and defensive structures. Its internal structure includes the Imperial Book Building, Zhongdao Village, Douzhu Residence, Heshan Building, and Soldier Hiding Caves, each with its unique function and historical background.

Travel Journal of Jincheng: The Prime Minister's Mansion
Located in Huangcheng Village, Beiliu Town, Yangcheng County, Jincheng City, Shanxi Province, the Prime Minister's Mansion is one of the tourist attractions in Jincheng. The ticket price is 115 yuan per person.
Self-driving
Drive to the north gate of the Prime Minister's Mansion or the Taiyue Spirit Practice Center parking lot, park at the north square, and parking is free. From the north square, you can follow the route directly to the ticket gate.
Ticket Checking and Touring
You can rent a guide or hire a tour guide on the left side of the ticket gate. I chose the electronic guide, which costs 20 yuan per person with a deposit of 100 yuan. The voice speed is relatively slow, and if there are many people, it is recommended to choose a tour guide for a more intuitive and detailed experience. The tour takes about an hour and a half, and there is a performance of welcoming the emperor in the morning. If you want to see the performance, you can arrange your time accordingly.
Most Impressive Point
The most impressive point of the Prime Minister's Mansion is the 53 steps. Looking up from the bottom, it is a step-by-step ascent, while looking down from the top, you can only see the platform, symbolizing a smooth journey. The 53 steps also symbolize Chen Tingjing's 53 years of official career.

Explore the treasures of history, the legendary story of Guoyu Ancient City
Explore the treasures of history, the legendary story of Guoyu Ancient City🏰📜✨
In 1640, a majestic watchtower stood tall in Guoyu Village, Yangcheng County, Jincheng City. It is not only the guardian of the village but also a symbol of wisdom and courage.🛡️✊🏼
**Dialogue between ancient castles and modern skyscrapers🗨️**
A dialogue through time, how is this ancient watchtower different from modern skyscrapers? Let's find out!🔍
**Witness of history🏰**
Guoyu Ancient City, an ancient village built in the Tang Dynasty, every brick and stone tells the story of time. In the eighth year of the Chongzhen period of the Ming Dynasty (1635), to resist foreign invasions, the gentry of Guoyu joined forces to build this solid defensive castle.
**Pioneer of defense in Chinese villages⚔️**
The design of this castle is a perfect combination of practicality and science, making it a model of easy defense and difficult offense. The city wall is 12 meters high and 1400 meters in circumference, with spacious passages on top. Thirteen watchtowers, like sentinels, guard this land.
**Reputation as the "Honeycomb City"🐝**
The city is densely packed with cave dwellings, layered upon each other, totaling 627, earning it the nickname "Honeycomb City." Three city gates guard the village, with the east gate "Jingyang Gate" being the daily passage for villagers.
**Yu Tower - The fortress within the fortress🏰**
Five years after the completion of Guoyu City, a "Yu Tower" stood tall in the center of the village. It is not only a watchtower within the castle but also the core of defensive power built according to the principles of the Eight Trigrams.
**The mystery and power of Yu Tower🔑**
Yu Tower is 30 meters high with a seven-story structure. The base wall is 2 meters thick, decreasing with each level, with the topmost wall being only 0.8 meters thick. Inside the tower, there are hidden underground passages leading outside the city, serving as secret escape routes. The cannon ports on the tower are powerful tools for both offense and defense.
**Self-sufficient fortress🌾**
Yu Tower is fully equipped with facilities such as stone mills, water wells, and stoves, ensuring self-sufficiency even when besieged by enemies.
**The watchtower in the center of the castle👁️**
Yu Tower stands like a watchtower in the center of the castle, overlooking all directions, commanding the entire village, making Guoyu Fortress impregnable.
**Cradle of flourishing culture📚**
Despite its remote location, Guoyu Village has a thriving cultural atmosphere. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, it produced countless outstanding talents whose deeds are still celebrated today.
Let's travel through the river of time together, exploring those ancient relics carved by the years, and feel the weight and charm of history.

When it comes to above-ground cultural relics, Shanxi is the place to be. The ancient buildings in Shanxi are countless. This time, we are visiting Jincheng, a treasure town that has been seriously overlooked. It is home to a large number of ancient buildings.
Jincheng has nearly 20,000 ancient buildings, with 46 wooden structures from the Song and Jin periods, around a thousand years old, accounting for one-third of the national total. It is truly a museum of ancient architecture.

The representative work of Chinese castles is the Wang's Grand Courtyard
Located in Jincheng, at the southern edge of the Taihang Mountains bordering Henan, stand dozens of ancient castles from the Ming and Qing dynasties, known as Chinese-style castles. These ancient castle buildings are constructed of brick, wood, earth, and stone, and even include crucibles, a material discarded after iron smelting, forming true walls of copper and iron. The purpose of building these castles, similar to the Fujian Tulou and the Guangdong Diaolou, was for self-defense during turbulent times, to resist foreign enemies. The tall and thick walls served as a barrier, creating a safe living space for the people within. I chose to visit the more representative Wang's Grand Courtyard. This was an official residence, whose master was Emperor Kangxi's teacher, holding positions such as Minister of Works, Minister of Revenue, Minister of Punishments, Minister of Personnel, Grand Secretary of the Wenyuan Pavilion, and the chief editor of the Kangxi Dictionary, Chen Tingjing, who had high prestige. Emperor Kangxi also stayed here twice, hence the castle was named 'Imperial City'. Stepping into the Grand Courtyard, the main building, Heshan Hall, is majestic and precipitous, with the surrounding walls giving a sense of the Great Wall. The walls are equipped with embrasures, soldier hiding holes are stacked layer upon layer, and various secret passages twist and turn, as if ready to welcome a flurry of battle at any moment. But when the view shifts inside the walls, it reveals a different kind of peace and comfort. The structure of each courtyard, the door lintels, couplets, wood carvings, and stone sculptures, show no difference from any other grand mansion in China, with the same purpose of passing on the family tradition of farming and reading, and continuing the legacy through education. The Chen family produced nine 'jinshi' degree holders and six Hanlin Academy scholars, enjoying 'five generations of imperial favor', truly a dazzling legacy. Standing at the highest point of the castle and gazing out, by comparison, the Fujian Tulou seems simple, and the Guangdong Diaolou too flimsy, while these earth-yellow walls are so majestic and sturdy, full of grandeur, like a giant shaking heaven and earth.

Around Luoyang, I discovered this emerald sea
This emerald sea is simply too beautiful. In summer, the temperature here is lower than in the city, and the breeze is refreshing. In the shallows, you can play in the water, catch fish, and there are waterfalls. If you come during the water release in July or August, the waterfalls will be very high, but it's also nice now. We can walk to the edge of the waterfall and feel the beauty of the water pouring down up close. Most importantly, as long as you strike a pose, taking photos here is simply too good to be true (haha my child won't cooperate). There's also a naturally formed stone cave, where any random shot is a masterpiece. Follow us, and you can rush here with friends and family on the weekend

Shanxi Tourism | Ancient Fortresses and Ming Dynasty Glazed Temples in Southern Shanxi - Runcheng Dongyue Temple
We drove from Luoyang into Shanxi, and Runcheng was the first small highlight of our 'May Day Shanxi trip'. It's just a small town, yet it hides two national key cultural relics protection units: Dibocheng and Runcheng Dongyue Temple.
Many places have Dongyue Temples, and the main deity inside - the Dongyue Emperor - is a Taoist god, in charge of the underworld and ruling over the 18 levels of hell and the fate of the living, both noble and lowly. He corresponds to the Buddhist Ksitigarbha. Therefore, those who have expectations for the afterlife and hope to lessen their sins will go to worship at the Dongyue Temple.
Pushing open the temple gate, it's quite deserted inside. At the very front is a cross-hipped roof worship pavilion, covered with glazed tiles, very exquisite. After that is the main hall, Tianqi Hall. But the hall doors are tightly locked, and the interior cannot be seen. Behind it is a two-story rear hall. Likewise, the doors are tightly shut. Returning to the worship pavilion to take a closer look, I discovered many interesting details. On the railing of the pavilion, not only lions are carved but also monkeys, elephants, etc. Looking up, a beautiful caisson ceiling appears before you. The octagonal pattern is beautiful, and the hanging flower columns are elegant and attractive.
Dibocheng, before the Fen River (also known as Jixi Water) changed its course, was built using the river as a barrier, becoming a rare integrated water and land defense fortress near Yangcheng. And the meaning of 'Di' comes from the phrase 'pillar in the midst of the stream', signifying great sturdiness. From the outside, the building materials of the fortress are no different from other fortresses; if you enter the fortress, you will find that its walls are covered with a honeycomb-like structure, that is, a large number of crucibles became the material for building the city, probably because the local iron industry was developed, and these crucibles were abundant, thus turning waste into treasure and becoming part of the city wall.
🎫Ticket: Free. But it depends on whether the cultural management staff is there, and if you want to go inside for a visit, you need to contact them. We did not choose to go inside due to our schedule.
The ticket for Dibocheng is 30 yuan, worth visiting.
⏱️Visiting time: Dongyue Temple and Dibocheng can be visited together in about 1 hour.
