Wensu | Aximanbulake Ancient City.
Also known as Agubai Ancient City, the site is 260 meters long from north to south and 200 meters wide from east to west, and is irregular in shape. Aximanbulake is a Uyghur word that roughly means "Old Longquan," which comes from a spring that used to be there.
🐴 According to legend, Agubai once occupied this place during the reign of Emperor Guangxu. Agubai was the main opponent of Zuo Zongtang when he recovered Xinjiang. He was born in West Asia, was a nobleman when he was young, and was violent by nature. He led 50 people to sweep across the Western Regions and became the actual ruler of the Western Regions.
🏜️ The ancient city was built on the mountain, with cliffs on three sides and a steep slope on one side that allowed access to the ancient city. The city was surrounded by rammed earth walls, with the remaining walls 0.5–2 meters high and about 1–2 meters wide. The entire ancient city took advantage of the terrain and was like a natural fortress that was easy to defend and difficult to attack.
In the northwest corner of the city, there are remains of a rammed earth foundation about 4 meters high, and there are many traces of houses in the northeast area, which should be the old site of the government office.

I found a new path and walked through a long, indistinct path in the bushes. A mysterious and awe-inspiring group of ancient tombs in Wensu Ancient City appeared before me. They stood quietly on the soft platform, witnessing countless sunrises and sunsets. The vicissitudes of time have left deep marks on them.
The ancient tombs vary in shape, some are tall and majestic, while others are simple and unadorned. The faint patterns and symbols on the tomb walls seem to tell stories of the past, making people imagine the glory and splendor of the past.
Each ancient tomb here is a piece of sleeping history. They are witnesses of ancient civilization, containing the wisdom and traces of life of the ancestors. Although time has passed, their mysterious charm still attracts people to explore and try to uncover the secrets hidden deep in time.

Due to geological reasons, cars and two-wheel drive vehicles are not allowed in the scenic area (I was immediately sad when I arrived at the scene. I rented a family car and could only take the scenic bus)
If you are renting a car, please remember to rent a four-wheel drive SUV or off-road vehicle.
Friends who can rent a car should try to rent a car, because the scenic area is very large, with a total of six canyons (Valley 1, Valley 2, etc...)
The scenic area's Jingjiao bus can only cover a limited area. If there are many people, the Jingjiao bus will only take you to Valley No. 4, and then let you walk about two kilometers on the plank road to Valley No. 3. Two vehicles are needed here. hours (plus photography)
If you have enough time, the Jingjiao bus will take you from Valley 3 to Valley 6, and then it’s over. (This is probably the bus route when there are many people)
Therefore, Jingjiao buses do not pass through Valleys 1, 2, and 5.
Moreover, you can view the entire canyon from the top down on the plank road, which is often not as shocking as the sense of oppression you experience from the depths of the canyon.
We didn't expect the canyon to be so big. We only stayed for three hours to play and left in a hurry. It's a pity. We will come back next time!!!

The canyon is about 80 kilometers northeast of Wensu County and about 26 kilometers from National Highway 314, covering a total area of 200 square kilometers. This place was once an essential passageway on the ancient postal road between the southern and northern Tianshan Mountains, known as the Muzart Trail. Locals call it 'Kudu Luk Grand Canyon,' which means 'dangerous and mysterious' in Uyghur.
👍 The canyon stretches about 25 kilometers from east to west and about 20 kilometers from north to south. It consists of 3 main valleys in a '川' shape, 12 tributaries, and hundreds of smaller gullies. It is the largest and most aesthetically valuable red-bed canyon between the southern and northern Tianshan Mountains, known as the 'King of Canyons.'

The canyon's sheer cliffs rise steeply 📸🥰, with odd peaks jutting out and the rock wall's folds clearly ferocious. The bizarre rocks are variously shaped: some like camel humps, pagodas, pillars holding up the sky, others like ancient murals, Taoist priests draped in capes, or the mysterious turtles witnessing the changes... With great courage, I drove into the Wen Su Grand Canyon and was delighted to find that, compared to the rough roads in Western Sichuan, the roads in the scenic area were very easy to drive on!
I successfully found the Salt Waterfall, which was stunning! The magical South Xinjiang is full of surprises everywhere.
The scenic shuttle bus does not go to the Salt Waterfall; you can only get there by self-driving. On the road out of the scenic area, there is a 'Salt Valley' sign on the right side (see picture 9), which is easy to find.
The scenic shuttle bus stops at Canyons No. 1 to 6. Self-driving friends can also take the shuttle bus in sections and try walking on the canyon summit plank road to enjoy the view from above.
Altay is beautiful enough, but I didn't expect the 'trump card' of Xinjiang to be Aksu

The Kekoya Memorial Hall mainly displays the story of the people in the Aksu region establishing windbreaks and afforestation.
Originally, Aksu was a large area of saline-alkali land where trees struggled to survive, and life was quite difficult for the people. With their hands and limited mechanical equipment, they transformed the saline-alkali land, built canals, and managed to keep the fragile saplings alive. Many of the older generation participated in this, and the stories from that time are very touching. It is recommended that everyone visiting Aksu should take the time to visit the memorial hall.

Wensu Grand Canyon is about 50 kilometers away from Aksu city center.
Actually, I went there the day before, but the weather was bad, so I went again to avoid regrets.
However, after the visit, I still felt very regretful, as there were many places I didn't get to. There was also not enough time, and I didn't go inside the canyon to take pictures, which made me feel even more regretful.
This place is suitable for spending a whole day. Those who like hiking can also come here, as it is said that it takes about 6 hours to walk through each canyon.
Wensu Grand Canyon is known as the most beautiful scar on Earth. It mainly includes Canyon No. 2, 3, 4, and 6.

This is also the track for the Tour of Tashkurgan rally race. Because the soil is loose, the requirements for vehicles must be quite high. Don't even think about sedans, only off-road vehicles will do.
From the visitor center, take the shuttle bus to Canyon No. 4, where there is a plank road to climb. Climbing to the highest point, you can see the entire fissure with the background of the highest peak of the Tianshan Mountains, offering a very shocking view.
The weather was very good when we took the shuttle bus, and the tour guide said it would rain in an hour. It's really not surprising, as having four seasons in one day is too normal in Xinjiang. Sure enough, when we left, we saw the sun hanging in the sky, and then it started to rain.
The Salt Valley is said to be very beautiful too, but unfortunately, it was flooded and we didn't get to see it.
So, I recommend that if you are not in a hurry, stay nearby for one night.
There are homestays 4 kilometers into the canyon, and even the food is not expensive. Although we didn't stay, we had a meal at the homestay. Their pilaf is super delicious.
