Wensu | Aximanbulake Ancient City.

Also known as Agubai Ancient City, the site is 260 meters long from north to south and 200 meters wide from east to west, and is irregular in shape. Aximanbulake is a Uyghur word that roughly means "Old Longquan," which comes from a spring that used to be there. 🐴 According to legend, Agubai once occupied this place during the reign of Emperor Guangxu. Agubai was the main opponent of Zuo Zongtang when he recovered Xinjiang. He was born in West Asia, was a nobleman when he was young, and was violent by nature. He led 50 people to sweep across the Western Regions and became the actual ruler of the Western Regions. 🏜️ The ancient city was built on the mountain, with cliffs on three sides and a steep slope on one side that allowed access to the ancient city. The city was surrounded by rammed earth walls, with the remaining walls 0.5–2 meters high and about 1–2 meters wide. The entire ancient city took advantage of the terrain and was like a natural fortress that was easy to defend and difficult to attack. In the northwest corner of the city, there are remains of a rammed earth foundation about 4 meters high, and there are many traces of houses in the northeast area, which should be the old site of the government office. 🔎 The ancient city was built in the sixth year of the Tongzhi reign of the Qing Dynasty (1867) and is now a county-level cultural relic protection unit in Wensu County.
