Bhutan is the happiest country in the world, and it goes without saying that there aren't many people who have been there! ? You can't travel to Bhutan on your own, and you must arrange a guide, hotel, and tour through some agency. You also need to apply for a visa through the agency. But on the other hand, once you've decided on a travel agency, they'll do everything for you, so it's easy lol Your guide and driver will be waiting for you as soon as you enter the country. The official languages are Dzongkha and English, so it's easy to understand the English your guide speaks! If you spend money, you should be able to find a guide who speaks Japanese! The destinations are roughly organized into tours, and you can request the places you want to go! Oh, I took a private tour, but it's more economical to apply with friends or in a group 🉐 The two famous cities of Thimphu and Paro are the ones we visited, and we went around the temples, and I hiked to Taktsang Monastery, and experienced a stone bath during a home visit. Taktsang Monastery is not an easy hike 😂 I recommend bringing comfortable shoes and a backpack... A home visit is unusual for its stone bath...! A bath where hot stones 🪨 are placed in the bathtub to heat it up. Experience this and then have a meal together! It's interesting to see what an ordinary home is like! Bhutan doesn't have anything particularly unusual or eye-catching. But that's why the charm of Bhutan is that you can relax in nature while feeling the teachings of Buddhism! Like, you walk up and go, “Okay yep, this is some royal-level architecture right here.” Massive white walls, golden roofs, and super neat courtyards, it’s clean, grand, and just feels important. And it is! It’s where the king works and big national ceremonies go down. The vibe is formal but still really peaceful. If you go in the late afternoon, the whole place glows in the golden light and it looks like a scene out of a fantasy movie. Seriously, the lighting is next level. You can’t explore every nook since it’s an actual working government building, but the open areas and the main temple are beautiful. Monks in red robes, carved woodwork everywhere, and prayer wheels spinning quietly in the background, it’s a vibe. It’s a nice mix of spiritual and official, and definitely worth a stroll if you’re hanging around Thimphu. Fancy but chill, Bhutan style!

We started our morning at the iconic Buddha Point in Kuenselphodrang National Park. Our guide purposely brought us there earlier than most hikers, so the path was blissfully quiet — we barely saw anyone until the very end, when we crossed paths with a group of Western tourists heading the other way. The hike took just over an hour through peaceful forested trails, with glimpses of Thimphu’s rolling hills peeking through the trees. It was a refreshing and serene start to the day. The hike was moderately difficult- difficult as in there were some parts that was dangerous since there were no guardrails. But easy as in it was relatively flat throughout, so it’s a good start to get used to the Bhutan terrain and the altitude before you attempt The Tiger Nest Monastry hike. For a deeper cultural dive, I visited the National Folk Heritage Museum and Institute for Zorig Chusum, where students train in Bhutan’s 13 traditional arts. Watching them paint, carve, and embroider with such care was inspiring—it reminded me how proudly Bhutan preserves its identity. Thimphu is more than a destination—it’s a philosophy. | Bhutan's amulet, which I had to censor. Before coming to Bhutan, my impression of this small South Asian country was that it was a mysterious Buddhist country, a country that uses the national happiness index as its development goal, and the place where Tony Leung and Carina Lau held their wedding... But the first stop on my trip to Bhutan was a bit beyond my expectations. - P1: Simply Bhutan This was the first attraction I visited in Bhutan, the Bhutan Folk Museum. It has rammed earth walls and folk song performances, exhibits of traditional Bhutanese kitchens, and you can also experience Bhutan's national sport, archery. But the most impressive thing is a small courtyard with Bhutanese reproductive worship totems. The guide said: Don't be shy, this is our Bhutanese amulet, similar to the blue eye 🧿. In the following days, I repeatedly saw this symbol in the driver's car, on the outer walls of houses, and in souvenir shops. It is almost the national totem of Bhutan. - P2: Babesa Village Restaurant A restaurant in an old Bhutanese house, you need to climb wooden ladders to go upstairs. I ate Bhutan's national dish Ema Datshi (cheese chili) here. - P3&4: Buddha Dordenma The 51.5m-high statue of Sakyamuni is one of the tallest sitting Buddhas in the world. - P5&6: Royal Takin Preserve The reserve is not big, but you can see Bhutan's national animal, the takin, up close. In Bhutanese legends, the takin, like the 🍆 totem, also originated from the legendary figure "Drukpa Kunley" in history. Legend has it that he once created the takin by combining a goat and a yak to show a miracle. - P7-10: Tashichho Dzong This is the center of Bhutan and the place where the King of Bhutan works. Unlike what everyone usually sees when watching the flag raising, tourists are always taken here at 17:00 to watch the flag lowering (P8), because the Dzong is only open to tourists after the flag lowering. On the hillside to the northwest of the Dzong, you can take a panoramic view of the building. - P11&12: Dochula Chorten At the mountain pass from Thimphu to the old capital Punakha, there are 108 pagodas, built to commemorate the fallen soldiers, and it is also a must-visit attraction. - During this year's Paro Tshechu Festival, I traveled in Bhutan for 4 days and also met the King of Bhutan 🤴🏻 at the Tshechu Festival celebration.
