🌸 A half-day tour of Szentendre, the ultimate relaxing trip! 🌸
I went to Szentendre, a cute town along the Danube River, just 40 minutes by train from Budapest! I was able to enjoy the tourist spots and gourmet food to my heart's content even in half a day, so I highly recommend it to everyone! ✨
Morning: Szentendre Skanzen Village Museum
The first thing I visited in the morning was the Szentendre Skanzen Village Museum. It is a vast open-air museum where you can experience traditional Hungarian life! I was impressed by the realistic reproduction of the village, including old farmhouses, workshops, schools, and underground wine cellars! Wooden houses, handmade crafts, and old daily tools are on display, and it feels like I've traveled back in time. There are also guided tours, so if you're interested in history and culture, be sure to join! Just walking around the grounds full of greenery is soothing. Recommended for families and photography lovers! 📸 The admission fee is about 3,000 HUF (about 1,000 yen) for adults, and I was able to enjoy it for about 2 hours.
Lunch: Határcsárda - étterem
For lunch, we went to the locally popular "Határcsárda - étterem"! It's in a wonderful location near the Danube River, and the terrace seats are super comfortable! We enjoyed traditional Hungarian cuisine. The goulash (beef stew) was rich and spicy, and it warmed the body. The chicken paprikash was also creamy and delicious! We enjoyed it with local wine, and it was about 8,000 HUF (about 2,700 yen) for two people, so it was a great value for money. The smiles of the staff and the warm service were also impressive. If you want to taste Hungarian cuisine, you can't miss this place! 🍲
Afternoon: Stroll around downtown Szentendre
In the afternoon, we took a leisurely stroll around downtown Szentendre. The cobblestone streets are so cute! There are colorful buildings, small churches, and art galleries lined up, and no matter where you take a photo, it's Instagram-worthy 📷 Especially the main street (Fő tér), where there are shops and cafes lined up, it's fun just to stroll around! There are many shops selling handmade goods and pottery by local artists, so I ended up buying too many souvenirs (lol). The promenade along the Danube River also had a nice atmosphere, and I was able to relax.
Sweets time: Jimny cake
I tried "Jimny cake" for the first time at a cafe I stopped by during my walk! It's a traditional Hungarian layer cake that looks gorgeous ✨ The balance of sponge and cream is exquisite, and it's not too sweet, so I ate it all up in one go. There are many cute cafes in Szentendre, so if you like sweet things, be sure to check them out! ☕
The charm of Szentendre
Szentendre is perfect for those who want to relax away from the hustle and bustle of Budapest! It's packed with art, history, delicious food, and beautiful cityscapes in a compact space, so I was able to enjoy it even in half a day. You can easily get there from Budapest by HÉV (suburban train), and it's super affordable at about 400 HUF (about 140 yen) one way. There aren't too many tourists, and the laid-back atmosphere is great! Next time I'd like to stay longer and visit the art galleries and small museums.
If you're traveling to Budapest, be sure to visit Szentendre! It's a wonderful half-day trip that will fill your heart💖
