2024 Sasebo Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in November)
Sasebo City is the central city in the northern part of Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan, and the second largest city in Nagasaki Prefecture. It is second only to Nagasaki City and is well known for its developed shipbuilding and defense industries. At the same time, the largest theme park in Japan's Kyushu region, 'Haestenborg', is also located here, so it is also a famous tourist city.

Popular Attractions
Huis Ten Bosch
The Stunning Huis Ten Bosch Amusement Park.
After 3 PM, enter the park to enjoy the beautiful sunset at Huis Ten Bosch. Riding the dreamy Ferris wheel to watch the sunset is incredibly romantic. The three-story carousel is even more breathtaking! The sunlight during sunset shines on the rotating carousel, making it sparkle even more. By riding the third-story carousel, you can enjoy a 360-degree view of the different sunset scenes. In the evening, with the addition of lighting effects, it becomes even more captivating! It feels like being in a romantic castle ❤️
Although the location is a bit remote, the tranquility of the day and the beautiful moments shared with family make it all worthwhile.
[Nagasaki Prefecture] Hotel Europe's amazing guest benefits
I went to Hotel Europe, the top-class hotel in Huis Ten Bosch. Since it is positioned as a top-class hotel, the accommodation fee is a little higher than other hotels around Huis Ten Bosch. However, I personally think that it is a high-cost performance hotel if you take advantage of the early booking discount and the extremely advantageous guest benefits. It is a highly recommended hotel.
Recommended point ①
☆ Free shuttle bus is available between Nagasaki Airport and Hotel Europe! !
It is common to use the airport bus or high-speed ferry between Nagasaki Airport, which is used by many visitors from outside the prefecture, and Huis Ten Bosch. The bus costs 1,250 yen one way (1,500 yen one way from June 1, 2024), and the high-speed ferry costs 2,200 yen one way, but if you stay at Hotel Europe, you can use it for free! (Advance web reservation required)
Recommended point ②
☆ If you purchase admission tickets (either 1-day passport or After 3 passport) on the day of arrival, you will receive a 1-day passport the next day for the number of days of your stay! !
If you stay for 1 night and 2 days, you will need to pay for a passport for 2 days at a hotel outside the park, but it's a great deal to only pay for 1 day. By the way, even if you stay for 2 nights and 3 days, you can enjoy 3 days with a 1-day ticket. You will need to present your passport at the front desk every day, so make sure you don't lose it! (Reference price: 1-day passport - 7,400 yen for adults) Recommended point 3 Check in elegantly on the check-in cruiser exclusively for Hotel Europe guests! You will travel around the park by boat, just like the popular attraction at Huis Ten Bosch, the Canal Cruiser. The Canal Cruiser is very popular and often has a waiting time, but the Check-in Cruiser is relatively empty because it is only available to guests staying at Hotel Europe. The queue is often for the Canal Cruiser, so please ask the staff. Recommended point 4 ☆Receive a ticket for the "Opera Company Performance SS Seat" at the Huis Ten Bosch Opera Grand Theater! (This is a limited-time event) Only Hotel Europe can receive a free invitation ticket to the SS seat, where you can experience a full-scale live opera up close. You will receive this coupon at check-in, so check in early and don't forget to check the show times!
Recommended point 5
☆You can enter the park one hour before it opens, so you can enjoy the park with fewer people!
If you have a ticket for the day of your stay, you will receive a passport for the next day, so you can use it to enjoy the park before it opens. The attractions and shops are still closed, but Huis Ten Bosch has beautiful flowers and buildings, so enjoy taking as many photos as you want in the morning when there are fewer people around!
There are many other great benefits, so check the hotel's website for details!

Kujukushima Observation Deck‼ ️Super recommended attractions in Sasebo❤️Romantic🌹Views
Going to Japan🇯🇵 I don't know what we like ❤️ for
I like to see the view 😍 and the observation deck is my favorite
Especially the free 🆓 ones 😂
I highly recommend the Ninety-Nine Island Observation Deck!! ️
But its journey is relatively a little longer 🤏🏻 If it is self-driving it will be more convenient
But like my place by car 🚗 as long as you book the right shift is actually possible 😍
Looking at the Ninety-Nine Island Observation Deck, there are actually eight in total, so some people call it the Eight Scenes of the Ninety-Nine Island 🫡 The more popular one is the Exhibition Sea Peak Observation Deck that I went to this time 😆 If you have time, of course you can go to so many
However, time is limited in our land
We are taking the bus 🚌 to Zhan Hai Peak!! ️ You can ride in Sasebo
Because actually Ninety-Nine Island is no bus can reach directly to Zhanhai Peak 😅😅 The simplest I think it is already Sasebo Station in front of the bus station No. 5 station to take G7 and G8 ❤️ The first time to go is to choose a stable route will be a little better 🤏🏻
Get off the bus and you can already see the sign of the Exhibition Sea Peak Observation Deck. Just follow it for about 5 minutes to the observation deck🤪
If you are here to take a picture 📸️ see the scenery actually stay about 15 minutes at the observation deck is enough 😆 However, if you want to see the sunset 🌇 you may stay a little longer 🤏🏻
However, please note that ⚠️ The last train time is 🥹 at 5:00
So it’s best to go to Ni in winter to watch the sunset🌄
The Exhibition Sea Peak Observation Deck has 2 floors!! ️ If you have a wider view, you can go to the upper floor 😆 We went directly to the second floor observatory 🤪 Because I want to see a little more 🤏🏻
Located in the center of Yuura Peninsula, near Sasebo City, the location is really great 🥹 and because the observation deck faces west 😆 the sunset of the ninety-nine islands is really amazing !! ️
If the schedule is arranged, it's really worth staying and watching🤪 Unfortunately I didn't have the chance
However, the weather is good under the scenery is already very make
The sea and sky are the same color‼ ️Awesome
Before I left, I saw a statue of Japanese composer Hoji Tanaka🤪

Amsterdam in Japan
Want to experience Europe without getting out of Japan? This place is situated in Nagasaki, Japan. This theme park offers so many attractions especially for kids and kids-alike.
Day pass costs ¥7,000 and it is so much worth it. There is a gondola you can take that goes around the entire park.
They have variety of foods to choose from.
I highly recommend coming here during spring to catch the blooming tulips 🌷

Kyushu Fukuoka|Hotel Nikko Huis Ten Bosch
Address-6, Huis Ten Bosch-cho, Sasebo, Sasebo, Nagasaki, Japan, 859-3243
Environment/Facilities -
If you will go to Huis Ten Bosch the location is very convenient next door to the hotel is Huis Ten Bosch After playing you can go directly back to the hotel to rest and the hotel has a dedicated passage to and from the park and the hotel
There is a shop in the hotel lobby where you can buy some souvenirs 👍🏻
The room is not too big but there is space to move around after opening the luggage
The mattress and pillow are just very comfortable. The basic supplies are complete. It also gives you a range of skin care products for everyone to use👍🏻
The rooms are clean and disposable slippers are provided
The hotel has a large bath and hydromassage pool. After a day of play, you can go down and take a dip. It's very comfortable🫶🏻
The morning breakfast was very rich with lots of variety to choose from and tasted good! The seating arrangement overlooks the garden while eating breakfast and looking at the environment is really relaxing🌸

Sasebo Specialty - Sasebo Hanbao Bao
"Sasebo Station" is JR's westernmost station in Japan. You can take a picture at the signpost!
Another famous attraction in the city is the "Miura-cho Catholic Church", mainly because it was the target of air raids during World War II.
Food: Sasebo burger is the most famous, you can see burger shops in the streets and alleys! Sasebo City was a US military base in 1950. Traditional burger recipes from the United States were introduced to Sasebo City, making it the first place to spread to burgers in Japan, and then to cater to Japanese tastes as "Sasebo Burger".
The taste is really good. All the burgers are made to order, the ingredients are fresh, and the bread is fluffy. You must try it when you come to Sasebo!

Huis Ten Bosch: the Netherlands in Japan
So, I’m not a big theme-park person, but decided to pay a visit to Huis Ten Bosch as I had an extra day in Nagasaki.
On top of the rides (more for kids than adults), there are interesting museums and the grounds are well kept and nice. The day I visited, a Banksy exhibit was going on it was quite nice.
If you have kids, that’s definitely a must-go place if you are in Nagasaki.
It’s a good idea to rent a bicycle to move around as the place is huge.
Kujukushima Tourist Park
This is one of the places that is becoming a new attraction in Sasebo. It is located past Tenkaiho from Sasebo city.
You can see the whole of Kujukushima from the vast grounds, and the monuments are great for Instagram!
There are no playground equipment, but there are clean toilets, so you don't have to worry about bringing elderly people or small children 😊

The fireworks are beautiful
Huis Ten Bosch is a theme park located in Sasebo City, Nagasaki Prefecture. It recreates the streets of the Netherlands and has a theme of Europe as a whole. It is 1.5 times the size of Tokyo Disney Resort and is the largest single theme park in Japan.
It is a little old for a theme park, but the grounds are large and it is perfect for taking photos.
The fireworks at night were also very beautiful.
*Fireworks are not held every day, so please check the website.
Admission fee: 7,000 yen for adults. There are discounted advance tickets.
Opening hours: 10:00-20:00, last admission at 19:00
The hours change depending on the season, so be sure to check.
Transportation: 1 hour 45 minutes from Hakata Station on the Huis Ten Bosch limited express)

Sasebo's unparalleled beauty "Kujukushima"
😎😎
📍 Kujukushima is the name of the large and small islands in the waters near Sasebo Port in Nagasaki Prefecture.
According to the blue sea, there are green islands with lush trees.
There are four observatories in Sasebo City that offer a panoramic view of Kujukushima. The most popular observation deck attraction is "Zhanhai Peak"😆😆
From the observation deck, you can have a 180-degree view of the beautiful scenery of Kujukushima🌟👍🏻👍🏻
When traveling to Sasebo, you must go to Kujukushima to see this stunning scenery😍😍

Buy the famous Sasebo Burger in Sasebo and head to Kujukushima 🚗
Eat the Sasebo Burger while looking at the amazing view from this observation deck, it's so happy ❤️
The Sasebo Burger here is excellent and highly recommended.
Kujukushima was also used as a location for the filming of The Last Samurai, and there was a signboard.

Huis Ten Bosch is located in Kyushu Nagasaki Sasebo city. It is a “small Europe” which models Holland in the Middle Ages with beautiful canal, attractions, museums, shops, restaurants and hotels, etc. and is especially known as one of the biggest theme park in Japan for its Flower Festival and Illumination Kingdom Celebration. #wintergetaway

Japan's unpopular cherry blossoms that can see the sea
the world can see cherry blossoms, only in Kyushu can watch the cherry blossoms on the hillside. Sitting under the pink cherry tree, the girl's heart bursting in the snow blowing in the sky is especially like the scene in anime. Going to Japan to see cherry blossoms in spring is the best thing for many girls in spring. In the early days when the cherry blossoms were first opened, although it was impossible to see the scenes surrounded by mountains and plains. But you can avoid the crowd and take a photo of your own girl's heart. Come to Kyushu! The cherry blossoms here are especially beautiful~
Photographing: Nagasaki Shimoto Park
In Sasebo, Japan, there is a park with a strong Dutch style - Huis Ten Bosch. Huis Ten Bosch means the Forest House in Dutch, and it is not a problem. The theme park is built in a forest.
Haustenborg recreates a medieval European town with windmills, tulips and canals, and it is very handy. The area is nearly twice as large as Tokyo Disney! There are matching hotels outside the park, various restaurants in the park, and shops are adjacent to each other.
You can visit the surprises of one stop after another on a yacht, horse-drawn carriage or bus. Or sit down in a coffee shop and watch the parades and performances with local specialties. There are hundreds of thousands of tulips here, many of which I have never seen before. If you have time, please stay a little longer and enjoy it.
A lot of Japanese people are dragging their families to come here for a holiday, and staying for a few days. Indeed, I strolled through the whole day and only walked through three out of four. If there is a chance, I will come here for two or three days next time to experience this "forest home".
Ninety-nine Island is one of Sasebo's most famous attractions, similar to China's Thousand Island Lake, but the scale is much smaller, overlooking the observation deck, and the islands are dotted in the lake, very beautiful.
Look at the cruise daily saying 8 in the morning
Eat and eat in Sasebo, go shopping, buy and buy, not too happy. After eating and drinking, I decided to go away. I saw a sign of "Central Park". I originally wanted to see the park, but I accidentally wanted to climb along the path of the mountain. Later, when I went down the mountain, I found that Central Park was under the mountain. I dont know. I started climbing.
The roads are built by local people on the mountain. After climbing for a little while, it seems that I have reached the end. It is a family. The point is that there is a very cute janitor in front of the door. When we went down the mountain, it was still chasing us for help. Continue to go to another road that went up the mountain and wrote "Miyak Hell Shrine". The name is a bit scary because there is "Hell." It was discovered by the shrine that the shrine on the hill was very artistic.
After climbing to the shrine, I continued to climb up for a while, saw the friendly city mark of Sasebo and Xiamen, and the friendly city mark of Sasebo and Coffs Harbour in Australia. Then I went down the mountain. I chose a little risky way to go down the mountain and choose another road down the mountain. Fortunately, I didn't get lost. When I went down to the flat, I found out that I had just arrived at the site of Central Park, and I didnt think it was as big.
The schedule is compact and perfect, naturally, but the uncertainty and small surprises found on this journey due to no purpose are also very memorable.

Halloween at Huis Ten Bosch in Nagasaki.
Just in time for Halloween on the first weekend of November 👻
I thought it was already over, so I'm super happy 🥹🫶
It was my first time experiencing Halloween at Huis Ten Bosch, and there were so many cute pumpkin lanterns and decorations 🎃
During the day, it had a cute atmosphere, and at night, it was magical ✨
Also, there was a Halloween party at Palace Huis Ten Bosch for elementary school students and older, and it was quite authentic 🧟
There were also attractions for junior high school students and older, so we could fully enjoy an adult Halloween 🧟♀️🧟
I hadn't planned on going to Huis Ten Bosch for Halloween, but it was so great that I want to go again 🩷
Stunning Cruise! Kujukushima Sightseeing Boat!
Take a beautiful scenic boat through the mountains and waters of Kujukushima. This sightseeing journey is even more amazing than you can imagine. The ride is very smooth, so you won't get seasick. The sightseeing boat has both indoor and outdoor areas that you can freely switch between. Whether you're sitting and drinking tea while enjoying the scenery, or climbing up to the mast area to overlook the beautiful interweaving of sea and islands, it's highly recommended! However, be prepared for strong winds that might mess up your hair, haha.
JR Okura Hotel
The hotel is very clean, and there is a free hot spring available. There is also a convenience store in the hotel where you can buy daily necessities.
From the hotel, you can see the Huis Ten Bosch park, which is beautiful both day and night. Additionally, it only takes 3 minutes to reach the entrance of the amusement facilities at Huis Ten Bosch.
Nagasaki, Miffy, Carousel, Let's Go!
This is Huis Ten Bosch, a theme park in Nagasaki. Even if you come just to see the three-story carousel, it's worth it, but the place is filled with charming concepts that you can explore all day long! There are free shuttle buses and canal cruises, making it easy to get around. As a European-themed park, it's fun to see the scenery during the day, at night, and at dusk.
The park is larger than expected and has many indoor attractions, so if you have time, I recommend spending the whole day here! I happened to see a Miffy performance, and it was incredibly cute. The shuttle bus is also a Miffy bus! You can find Miffy everywhere. On the day I visited, there weren't many people, so I rode the Ferris wheel twice and the carousel five times :) I wish I could upload a video because the lingering music that plays when the carousel is running... it still resonates with me. I got off the cruise in front of the carousel and watched until the music stopped, creating an unforgettable memory. It felt like I found my inner child again. There were many students in school uniforms, reminding me of my school days. Rediscover your forgotten or latent inner child at Huis Ten Bosch..♥️ It was the best moment of my trip.
Mini One 🥐
#traveldiaries
Mini one is a bakery that sells cute bite size pastries that goes by weight. This is a pretty interesting concept where you know you won't waste food, since you order how much you want. Here at mini one, there is an assortment of different pastries that ranges from mini croissants, white strawberry mochi, mini cheesecakes, mini cream puffs and many more. Prices for these snacks starts from $3.50 onwards/100gm, depending on what you choose.
Their pastries may be small but they are really delicious, buttery and flaky. I also love that they would describe their pastries and tell you roughly how many pieces will be there be in a 100gm bag. Not over ordering and not wasting food is a great way to reduce food wastage and enjoying what we know we can finish. Enjoy these yummy pastries today!
Nagasaki Road Trip from North to South!
1. Tenkaikyo/99 Islands
Recommended Points: Enjoy the spectacular scenery!
Rating:
You can visit it in just an hour and a half by car from Hakata! There are various observation decks, but Tenkaikyo is the best 😊
2. Awashima Shrine
Recommended Points: A hidden gem with lots to see!
Rating:
It's about a 20-minute drive from Tenkaikyo. It's quite local and not a large shrine, but if you take the side path and walk bravely, you can see the dragon god statue and the view from there is also amazing!
3. The World's Top 3 Night Views from Mt. Inasa
Recommended Points: The night view is simply beautiful!
Rating:
You can reach it in about 20 minutes by car from Nagasaki city. There's also a ropeway to the top, but taking a leisurely walk up the stairs is also recommended! Once you reach the top, just enjoy the night view 😊 By the way, you can find a lovely mark in the night view 😉
4. Unzen Jigoku (Unzen Hell)
Recommended Points: Experience a hellish otherworld!
Rating:
It's much larger than expected and you can enjoy it at a leisurely pace. The strong smell of sulfur is part of the hellish experience! If you have time, enjoy the hot springs too!
5. Mt. Fugen
Recommended Points: Great view if the weather is good! Suitable for beginners
Rating:
There's a hiking course right near the hell, so give it a try! Even beginners can handle it with a little preparation. The path to the top is charming and soothing. After sweating it out, head back to the hell for a hot spring, it's the best ☺️
