My boyfriend kept asking me to come to Dalitongzhai, and I felt like I had fallen into a historical culture!
To experience the slow pace, come to the 600-year-old treasure Dong Village
There are many Dong villages distributed in the vast mountainous areas at the junction of Hunan, Guizhou and Guangxi. Most of these villages are built near mountains and rivers. The villagers live together in clans, with some households consisting of several hundred and some dozens, leading a life like in a paradise.
Address: Dali Dong Village in Rongjiang County, Guizhou Province is a classic Dong village. More than six hundred years ago, the villagers' ancestors migrated here to escape war. There are more than 1,000 people in the village, all of whom are Dong people. This place has not been fully developed yet, so tourists who like to visit traditional villages should not miss it.
Architectural Style
The typical dwelling in the Dong village is the stilt house, which not only can overcome the rugged terrain, but also can avoid moisture and various insects and ants. People live on the upper floors of the houses, and livestock are raised on the lower floors. Some people even built their houses on ponds and could catch fish by just lifting up the floor. There is a unique custom in the village, which is to plant fir trees on their own land and then cut down the trees to build new houses when their children get married.
There is also a kind of "Sihelou" in Dali Dong Village, all of which are connected with mortise and tenon joints. The first and second floors are living spaces, and the third floor is a storage space in the form of a corridor. Starting from the second floor, the rooms are connected to each other. The roof is equipped with extended brackets to protect against wind and rain.
The Drum Tower is the center of the Dong village and its status is similar to that of a clan temple. Celebrations, meetings and discussions of important matters were all held in the Drum Tower. The drum tower of Dali Dong Village was first built during the Qianlong period. The Drum Tower is also built with fir wood, and its shape is intended to imitate the upright posture of the fir tree. It turns out that in the ancient times when there were no drum towers, the collective activities of the Dong people were carried out under the fir trees.
Ancient Phoebe
The Dong people call themselves Gaeml, which means "forest covered".
There are more than 400 ancient nanmu trees around Dali Dong Village, of which more than 40 are over 500 years old. There is a legend in the village that "the ancient trees protect the village", so these trees cannot be cut down, and fir trees are used to build houses. The villagers have made an interesting village agreement: those who cut down ancient trees, scenic trees, and steal tree pieces must treat all villagers to a meal for one day.
Ancient Wells and Trails
There are 6 ancient wells in Dali Village, all of which were built in the middle and late Qing Dynasty. They are made of stone, with a square plane and an arched front. The water is sweet and cool. There are 5 ancient stone roads outside Dali Village connecting to the outside world. This is a stone cultural network woven by the Dong people of Dali with their blood and sweat in the middle of the Qing Dynasty. Among them, the Bakuang Ancient Road is paved with stone slabs, is about ten miles long, and has reliefs of stone frogs and poisonous snakes.
