Former Headquarters of the Fourth Red Army Memorial Hall.
The Former Headquarters of the Fourth Red Army Memorial Hall is located at No. 29, Wenmiao Street, Bizhou Subdistrict, Tongjiang County, Bazhong City, Sichuan Province. The museum is a Ming and Qing dynasty building, facing south, and was originally the Tongjiang Confucian Temple. It was built in the 7th year of the Jiayou period of the Song dynasty, and was later destroyed. It was rebuilt on the old site in the Ren Shen year of the Jingtai period of the Ming dynasty, and underwent major repairs in the 4th year of the Xianfeng period of the Qing dynasty, changing from a double-eave hip roof to a single-eave gable roof, retaining the original building's foundation and large wooden structure. The entire building is built on the mountain, with a trapezoidal layout, gradually rising. The memorial hall includes the former headquarters of the Fourth Red Army, the former headquarters of the General Political Department, Lenin Park, and the former site of the Sichuan-Shaanxi Provincial Party School. On December 25, 1932, the Fourth Red Army liberated Tongjiang City, and the headquarters immediately moved into the Tongjiang Confucian Temple. For two and a half years, the commander-in-chief of the Fourth Red Army, Xu Xiangqian, political commissar Chen Changhao, deputy commander-in-chief Wang Shusheng, and chief of staff Zeng Zhongsheng strategized here, commanding the brave and battle-hardened Fourth Red Army and the local armed forces and people of the Sichuan-Shaanxi Soviet Area to rely on Tongjiang to crush the enemy's three-way attack and six-way encirclement, expanding the base area to more than 42,000 square kilometers, covering 22 counties and one city, making it the second largest area of the Chinese Soviet Republic. The Red Army also grew from four divisions and more than 15,000 people when they entered Sichuan to five armies and more than 80,000 people, writing a glorious chapter in the history of the Communist Party of China and the history of the Chinese revolution. On January 13, 1988, the former headquarters of the Fourth Red Army was announced by the State Council of the People's Republic of China as the third batch of national key cultural relics protection units.
