Hong Kong · M+ Yayoi Kusama Exhibition: The Imaginary Space of a 94-Year-Old Artist |
I won't stop living my whole life,
Dedicated to the love for the universe.
·
The Hong Kong Arts Festival is still ongoing. This time, I came to Hong Kong right after recovering from gastroenteritis. After finishing work, I still insisted on wanting to go and see Yayoi Kusama's exhibition. This Japanese artist's works are filled with endless polka dots, which stack up to form an ocean, gradually blurring the existence of real space. For her, these repetitive dots are a unique way for her to communicate with the world, as well as a special medicine for self-healing. She is Yayoi Kusama.
·
This exhibition is very grand. It covers most of Yayoi Kusama's famous works from 1945 to the present. It is a rare large-scale solo exhibition that allows visitors to see the artist's turbulent life through her observations and insights into life, living beings, and the universe.
·
Using its distinctive and high-contrast collision colors and polka dot elements, a large number of paintings, sculptures, and installation art have been created to depict and reconstruct personal understandings of love, art, biology, life, the world, and the universe.
·
Following the curator's train of thought, step by step feel the artist's creative process and the different stages of art, enter the colorful world of the artist, and try to converse with them. It's really too grand and magnificent, and it takes a long time to calm down.
·
Yayoi Kusama's special exhibition will continue until May 14th. Hurry up and go if you want to! There will be a lot of original exhibition items, specially customized printed coffee, and peripheral products.
·
In addition to the exhibition of Grass and Miyabi, the Hikaru Collection Exhibition, and "Dreams of the Museum", there is also "Objects. Space. Interaction", which is also very interesting. Using more than 500 design products to tell the story of design and architecture inside and outside of Asia, including furniture, architecture, graphic design, etc., the purpose is to glimpse into issues related to life from design and architecture.

M+ MUSEUM GAVE ME AN UNFORGETTABLE MOMENT
M+ in West Kowloon Hong Kong is an incredible place to visit if you love having museum tours!
The entire museum has a lot of exhibitions well-curated, either free or you need tickets to see.
I spent half of my day to take a look in the art and installation set here without any issue. Since the space is big, we didn’t have to queue line up.
They also have souvenir store and cafe inside the building. Don’t forget to go to the rooftop and spend your evening see the sunset here!
Would visit again!

Promise me! You must reserve a day to come here when you're in Hong Kong.
This time I went to Hong Kong with Pangsen for a few days.
Visited many places for check-ins.
My favorite is the newly developed West Kowloon Cultural Park.
.
Three years ago, when I came to Hong Kong with Pangsen, it was still under construction.
Now it has been completely renewed.
Here is very close to the W hotel where we are staying.
Cross a pedestrian bridge and you're there!
.
Cultural district gathers multiple museums and venues.
Art lovers have M+, Hong Kong Palace Museum, Free Space, and Xiqu Centre.
You can also come here for a picnic and sunbathe ☀️.
You can take a walk on the coastal boardwalk.
We went there on Saturday.
Many residents come here to camp, walk their dogs, and have picnics 🧺.
Extremely leisurely.
.
Across the park is Victoria Harbour.
It is a holy land for filming 📷.
We took many good photos with a telephoto lens.
Sit here and watch the sunset 🌄 and night view 🌃, it's also great!
Everyone come to Hong Kong, be sure to find time to come here for a stroll.
.

Glorious museum of visual culture in Hong Kong - M+
The M+ building in the West Kowloon Cultural District is one of the largest museums of modern and contemporary visual culture in the world. Located at the southernmost edge of Kowloon overlooking Victoria Harbour, it is among Hong Kong’s most iconic landmarks, both monumental in its architectural form and radically open in its position in the urban landscape.
The expansive podium cantilevers above ground and includes 17,000 square metres of exhibition space across galleries, cinema houses, the Mediatheque, Learning Hub, and Roof Garden that faces Victoria Harbour.
Hope you like this post if you found this useful. Cheers :)

Bloodline Big Family in M+
Location: M Plus Museum
M+ Museum is located in west kowloon cultural district, you can see a big “Tao” hanging, the lobby is so spacious and you can see the pumpkin figures of Yayoi Kusama
I like the acrylic on canvas painting of Chasm Forever by Hon Chi-fun. Big Blue Circle is so eye catching. A circle can be many things. The artist think it is a potent symbol of eternity and perfection. It embodies something as vast as the universe or as intimate as our own bodies.
And my favorite painting is surely Bloodline - Big Family No. 17, lovely family. Zhang Xiaogang took his family photographs as a source of inspiration. This image represents a family portrait before the economic reform in China. The family wearing grey outfits, which tells a period of conformity, the four individuals are connected by a red line, every time i come this one become my very one favorite haa, looking at their staring eyes, and you can easily tell they are one family haa, i love the baby girl, their faces are so united
Besides, i love the panda series, so many metaphors, funny and creative, and having my favorite panda definitely recommended yaya
Though I’d say only several paintings are super cool, the art pieces are generally just ok for me lol, spending time for several great pieces is great haa

Afternoon tea with amazing view on your side
The cafe (ADD+) is located at B1/F, inside the M+ building (outside the gallery area).
Came around 3 PM, and need to wait in queue for a while (although when we went inside the restaurant it is not full capacity yet).
Got the place next to window, so we can see the beautiful west Kowloon cultural district outside. They have western as well as Chinese food on their menu.
Ordered double boiled fish maw soup and Hawaiian pizza to enjoy the nice afternoon inside the cafe.

【Hong Kong Museum Recommendation】M+ Visual Culture Museum | Minimalist Industrial Style and Top-notch Check-in Spot. A visually stunning art journey. 💫
M+ is a visual culture museum and one of the world's largest modern and contemporary visual culture museums. Located in the West Kowloon Cultural District of Kowloon, it opened on November 11, 2021. It collects and displays visual arts, designs, architecture, and moving images from Hong Kong, mainland China, Asia, and around the world from the 20th and 21st centuries!
The exterior design of the M+ museum is a simple industrial style, with gray and metallic silver as the main tone and many wooden furnishings. It is visually pleasing and has a simple yet artistic feel. With the view of Victoria Harbour facing the West Kowloon Cultural District, both inside and around the museum offer great photo opportunities.
📷 Photo spot 1: M+ logo When visiting M+, of course, you have to take a photo in front of the M+ logo - this is also the location where most people take their first photos! In fact, there are two locations outside the museum with the M+ logo, not just at the main entrance, but also at the other entrance/exit. Just walk around the outside of the museum to find it!
📷 Photo spot 2: Gray three-dimensional wall There is a large gray three-dimensional wall on the side of M+ with several rows of connected long benches in front of it. Many people sit here to relax and unwind! The gray three-dimensional wall is a great photo spot, giving a simple yet extraordinary feeling.
📷 Photo spot 3: Glass exterior wall reflecting Victoria Harbour view M+ museum faces the Victoria Harbour view of the Hong Kong Island. Walking around the museum, you can admire the stunning Victoria Harbour view from afar!
📷 Photo spot 4: The spiral staircase on the 2nd floor The spiral staircase is located in the lobby on the 2nd floor and is an architectural landmark of Herzog & de Meuron, a Swiss architectural firm. It has a Northern European architectural style. This is also a popular photo spot in the M+ museum, and when it is busy, everyone will queue up!
Note: The spiral staircase is only for decoration, and the upper floors were closed.
📷 Photo spot 5: Colorful sun wall outside the exhibition hall on the 2nd floor This is my favorite photo spot! Seeing the colorful sun gives a positive and energetic feeling!
📷 Photo spot 6: Gray three-dimensional grid on the rooftop garden on the 3rd floor This is my second favorite photo spot. It feels like being in a sketch! When I was studying design, I used to draw some three-dimensional squares. Now I can immerse myself in the drawing. XD
📷 Photo spot 7: Sea view staircase location
As a visual culture museum, M+ naturally has many visually impactful artworks!
For me, the most visually impactful are colors, lines, and shapes. I like the feeling of a complex design with a neat structure!
Some people may find visiting museums boring, while others find it interesting. It depends on personal preferences, so just stay longer if you like it!
📍M+ (M Plus Museum) Address: 38 Museum Drive, West Kowloon Cultural District, Kowloon, Hong Kong Transportation: Take the MTR to Kowloon Station (towards the West Kowloon Cultural District) and walk for about 10 minutes to reach the museum.
Note: Backpacks are not allowed inside the exhibition hall and need to be stored for free.
Opening hours: Tuesday to Thursday, weekends, and public holidays 10:00-18:00/ Friday 10:00-22:00/ Closed on Monday

I’m so happy that even in so small Hong Kong, every year opens more and more cultural places and museums. Today I’ve been to M+ Museum in West Kowloon. But even now, if just visit M+ you will be shocked. It’s culture of 21st century mixed with our past. So many art things to enjoy

Hong Kong's New Landmark | M+ Museum
M+ Museum. It's been a long time since I last visited Hong Kong, and I no longer have much need for shopping, so I chose the newly opened M+ Museum, located in the West Kowloon Cultural District, not to be missed‼️
🎫 Tickets: Online booking is required two days in advance, and I went on the weekend, no need to queue and could buy directly.
🚌 Bus: Take the 🆓 bus from opposite the D exit of Austin Station.
🕕 Visiting Time: We bought standard tickets, had a quick look around, and spent about 2 hours and 40 minutes.
✨ Opening Hours: Closed on Mondays, Tuesday to Thursday and weekends from 10:00-18:00, Fridays from 10:00-22:00.
For those in a hurry, Friday is of course the convenient day to come!
The second floor is the main exhibition hall area, with several exhibition rooms. The rooftop garden is also accessible. Don't miss the waterfront promenade on the 1st floor where you can see the Victoria Harbour view🔥

Hong Kong Hotspot: M+ Museum of Visual Culture
Took my parents to the newly opened museum on Friday, which cost nearly 22 billion Hong Kong dollars to build.
Due to the crowd in the exhibition halls, we quickly stopped by to view the exhibits before heading to the members and sponsors only dining club on the 11th floor🍴. There, we could admire world-class contemporary art pieces and designs up close, in a tranquil and comfortable environment, and also enjoy the beautiful scenery of both sides of Victoria Harbour. In the future, it could become a resting spot for friends and family to engage in artistic and cultural activities within the museum or the West Kowloon Cultural District.
After a satisfying meal, we went down to explore the various exhibits and facilities of the museum. Since it had been less than a week since its opening, many facilities were not yet operational. However, from the operational exhibition halls and the scale of the collections, it is evident that the Hong Kong government is indeed ambitious in transforming the West Kowloon Cultural District, including M+, into a world-class comprehensive cultural venue. With the expected opening of the Hong Kong Palace Museum in the middle of next year, along with the launch of M+, the district is set to become a fusion of ancient and modern styles. It is believed that in the future, it will not be difficult for the area to become a new highlight for artistic and cultural venues in Asia and the world

M+ is awesome
- Better than the Forbidden City experience.
- Space, exhibits, international standards.
- Yayoi Kusama's exhibits are actually just a mirror room + space.
- The selection of exhibitions fits the theme very well.

Hong Kong McNuggets Art Exhibition | McNuggets fans must go
McNuggets fans must go. At the 'arts pavilion' in the West Kowloon Cultural District, near the M+ Museum, get off at the 'Kowloon Station or Austin Station' of the MTR, walk down and follow the signs to get there.
📱
Make a reservation in advance.
🍔
This is the McNuggets' 40th anniversary exhibition, which ends on August 20th. Although the venue is small, the McNuggets are still very cute, big and small. Free stickers and tattoos are provided, as well as photo stickers. For now, the only souvenirs available are clothes and large McNuggets dolls.
🍔
The set at the entrance is the best-looking, don't miss it.

Take my advice, you must visit this museum in Hong Kong
M+ MUSEUM
The M+ building mainly consists of three parts, from top to bottom: a tower, a podium, and a base, all interconnected. Viewed from the east or west, the appearance of the tower and podium resembles an inverted three-dimensional capital 'T'. The main exhibition spaces open to visitors are located on the floors of the podium and base.
'The interplay between outdoor and indoor spaces' is the overarching design concept of the M+ building. This is especially true for the public spaces inside, whether it's the abundant daylight brought in through the skylights on the second floor or the semi-outdoor covered spaces underground, all make the indoors feel as if nature is just within reach.
Entering the underground lobby from the ground floor entrance, the floor is laid with grey concrete tiles with a wood grain surface. Tall grey concrete columns are distributed in different positions in the lobby, some of which have wood grain like the floor tiles.
The lobby is surrounded by floor-to-ceiling glass, with two openings in the floor that allow one to see the basement; there are also two openings in the ceiling, revealing the skylights of the podium, with natural light penetrating through these two skylights to the underground lobby and the two basement levels. The lowest level of the basement is also known as 'The Found Space'.
If you approach the railing of the lobby floor openings and look down, you can see two levels of giant steps crossing The Found Space. The steps are made of concrete, each taller than an adult. These two levels of steps cover the MTR Tung Chung Line and Airport Express tunnels.
At the center of the second floor is the atrium, which features a dynamic spiral staircase, flanked by the previously mentioned skylights. The spacious structure allows sunlight to fill the entire space, and even though the atrium has some 'trusses' made of heavy concrete crisscrossing, it still creates an open and bright feeling.
The layout of this floor is a bit like an ancient Roman city: usually, there is a civic plaza in the city center, open to all the public. There are two main streets crossing the civic plaza, one running north to south and the other east to west, naturally dividing the entire city into four communities. Each community has its own characteristics, landmarks, and atmosphere. The same is true here at M+.

M+ is an art museum in the West Kowloon Cultural District of Hong Kong. It exhibits twentieth and twenty-first century art encompassing visual art, design and architecture, and moving image. It opened on 12 November 2021.
M+ is a museum dedicated to collecting, exhibiting, and interpreting visual art, design and architecture, moving image, and Hong Kong visual culture of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. In Hong Kong’s West Kowloon Cultural District, it is one of the largest museums of modern and contemporary visual culture in the world, with a bold ambition to establish ourselves as one of the world’s leading cultural institutions. M+ is a new kind of museum that reflects our unique time and place, a museum that builds on Hong Kong’s historic balance of the local and the international to define a distinctive and innovative voice for Asia’s twenty-first century.
I was lucky enough to catch the special exhibition of Yayoi Kusama, a world renowned Japanese artist. It was very cool to immerse in her artwork, but some might find it distressing.
Visitors are required to purchase tickets for General Admission. Student pass and elderly pass available.

It was a particularly unique experience, the exhibited artworks and artists all have their own perspectives and ideas, many of which have never been displayed in the mainland, worth visiting.

Enrich Yourself While Traveling! The Charm of M+
M+ has become a very popular museum attraction in Hong Kong in recent years (the first global contemporary visual culture museum in Asia). Besides its rich and diverse exhibition content, the architectural layout and ambiance of the interior also greatly appeal to me. Each floor has its own unique application and composition. I recommend it to friends who are planning to visit Hong Kong soon; you can spend half a day there.
(Out of respect for copyright, I will not post photos of the exhibition works. For actual exhibition content, please visit the M+ official website.)
