The journey to this revered site was marked by a mix of excitement and solemnity, as if each step brought me closer to a place of profound significance. As I approached the weathered chapel, its presence seemed to beckon me forward, urging me to immerse myself in its storied history and timeless spirituality. The origins of St. Anne's Sanctuary can be traced back to 1833, when Chinese and Indian migrant workers arrived from the Batu Kawan area in Penang. French missionaries from Batu Kawan came to Bukit Mertajam to minister to the Catholic families in the area, eventually leading to the establishment of the sanctuary. Inside, the scent of incense filled the air, mingling with the soft murmur of prayers that echoed through the sacred space. Wandering through the tranquil gardens, I marveled at the statues of Passion and the graceful architecture that surrounded me. It has two floors, and for a much relaxing and quieter space - be sure to pick the upper floor! Nothing in particular was fancy about this place, but the price point were affordable in comparison with a lot of other cafes. The portions were big, especially their cup of coffee! They're definitely worth checking out if you're a fan of cocktails! There was a Halloween themed event happening when we were there, and as you may have guessed it - we had special cocktails and mocktails! Most of their crowd were take aways (they stop their car at the side and purchase their bread), while there are lesser crowds for their cafe. Kekiya Bakehouse is located at Juru Sentral, Bukit Mertajam. They serve drinks and cakes, but as per their name, their cakes are one of the best! We tried a few of their cakes, but the one that stood out the most for us was the Yam cake! The yam was so fragrant and the cream was very fresh too! Everything melts in your mouth and it was such a pleasure eating it. The only downside is that the cafe is a little small, so it can get a little hectic and noisy! Everytime someone mentions about traveling to penang, it’s always on the island. But what about mainland? Here’s my experience there. Their foods are actually MUCH cheaper compared to the island, AND, here’s the best part : it tastes JUST as fabulous as the ones on island. The people there are just amazing! Recommended place for those of you who wants to watch football. The staff is very friendly and the room is very accomodating. I love the way they treat their customer. The valet parking is very convinent. Every room including the elavator were equipped with refreshing hand sanitiser. As this is last minute booking only left Prison and Tropical theme. Because we travel with kids, of course we cannot choose prison theme, we book tropical theme and its a good decision. The room is large, with a super king size bed, Bali decoration throughout the room, the seperate sitting area, 2 tv, nice shower gel n bubble bath. Every room has a large jacuzzi bubble tub with Built In Speaker/ Radio. So awesome having a nice hot buble bath while listening to a nice music. Overall, the worth staycation ever. Very smooth check in and check out with free face mask and drinking water to all guest. All rooms are equiped with Bon coffee machine. Please savour the scrumptious cuisine in Mezza9 and Crumbles Cream cafe. I recommend you to try the mocha, satay and posh fries.
