The Melting Pot of Cultures
A Journey to the Spanish Pyrenees - Zaragoza (Region)
This monument reflects a variety of architectural styles. As early as the 1st century BC, there was a cathedral at the same location, which was known as Saint Vincent's Church during the Visigothic period. It also served as a mosque. However, it wasn't until the 12th century that the first Christian church was built on top of these structures, and the church faced north instead of the typical eastward direction of the time, so as not to conflict with the Muslim direction of prayer towards Mecca. Changes were later made. La Seo incorporates Gothic, Mudéjar, Renaissance, and Baroque styles. The main entrance is Baroque, built in the 18th century. Inside, you can visit the Tapestry Museum, which houses some of the finest Flemish tapestries in the world.

A jewel of the Mudéjar-style monuments
Walking tour in the Spanish Central Plateau ~ Teruel (region)
Teruel is located in the highlands of southern Aragon and its historic centre has preserved an important medieval heritage. The Cathedral Tower, along with the towers of San Salvador, San Martín and San Pedro, is the jewel of the Mudéjar complex and is listed as a World Heritage Site.
A legendary city thanks to the famous story of lovers, Teruel has preserved charming corners such as the central Plaza Torico, the arched aqueduct and the popular Avenida Ellipse.
On the outskirts, a more modern Teruel emerges, with a convention center and Dinopolis, a dinosaur theme park. Albarracín, a town declared a National Monument, Mora de Rubielos and other places are the perfect complement to a visit to the capital of the province of Teruel.
From the earliest times, various prehistoric and Iberian civilizations settled near present-day Teruel. The city's rise and development reached its peak in the Middle Ages, when, when it found itself on Christian lands bordering the Muslim Kingdom of Valencia, a wall was built around its perimeter.
It is this Islamic influence that has given Teruel and Aragon the most important remains of Mudéjar architecture in Spain, a style that combines Gothic and Muslim architectural elements.

French Aqueduct
Walking tour in the Spanish Central Plateau ~ Teruel (region)
It is both an aqueduct and a viaduct, as the columns of the second body are open to traffic.
It is the work of Frenchman Quinto Pierres Vedel, whose construction began in 1537 and lasted throughout the 16th century. It has two floors and a series of arches. The bridge spans the gap between medieval Teruel and modern Teruel.

The Road to the City
Exploring the Spanish Central Plateau ~ Teruel (Region)
The Church of San Martín has existed since as early as 1196, but the current structure dates back to the 17th century. It features three naves, a cloister, a pointed barrel vault with small windows at the center, and ribbed vaults in the side aisles. The oldest part of the church is the Gothic-Mudejar tower facade, built in 1315. This square structure is made of brick and adorned with ceramic tiles. At its base, there is a pointed arch that leads to the street.

St Martin's Twin Towers
Walking tour in the Spanish Central Plateau ~ Teruel (region)
The design and decoration of this tower are almost identical to that of St. Martin's Tower. It dates back to the early 14th century but was rebuilt in 1677 after it collapsed. It has a nave with barrel vaulting. It features decorated walls and side chapels. The tower has several floors and is surrounded by diamond-shaped tiles, while the edges and semicircular arches are decorated with white and green tiles.

The Tower of the Chapel
A Journey Through Spain's Central Plateau ~ Teruel (Region)
The Church of La Merced features a Mudejar-style tower, a masterpiece from the late 16th century. The tower is composed of three sections: the lower part is square-shaped, the middle section is chamfered, both showcasing Mudejar architecture, while the top section is octagonal and was constructed during the Baroque period. Inside the church, there is a silverwork-style altarpiece dedicated to Saint George.

Children and adults alike can enjoy discovering all the secrets of the exciting world of dinosaurs.
Walking tour in the Spanish Central Plateau ~ Teruel (region)
Close to the center of Teruel you will find Dinópolis, a theme park conceived as an educational park whose various attractions offer panoramic views of the giants that once walked the Earth: the dinosaurs. The centerpiece of the park is without a doubt the Teruel Paleontological Museum, whose modern facilities house one of the best collections of dinosaurs in the world. There are several interesting sights surrounding the museum. After your first encounter with the world of dinosaurs in Dino City, you can embark on a fascinating journey back in time to the age of dinosaurs, learn about the lives of these animals in a 3D cinema, and even see the fearsome Tyrannosaurus Rex in action. Not to mention the numerous active play areas for younger visitors, as well as a restaurant and snack bar area where you can refuel.

You'll see famous lovers when you go in.
Walking tour in the Spanish Central Plateau ~ Teruel (region)
It's so impressive that sometimes words can't describe what your eyes see. Very good, the ticket is 10 euros, the price is the same whether you visit with a group or alone. I recommend taking a guide so you can hear the story of these two lovers. The museum is a must-see for anyone visiting Teruel. There is much more to see in the museum, not only for couples, there is also a chapel that takes your breath away at first sight, a mixture of colors and styles of the time, and you can also climb its bell tower (tower) from where you can have a great view of the whole city.

Beautiful defensive wall
Walking tour in the Spanish Central Plateau ~ Teruel (region)
Built in brick and stone in the 14th and 15th centuries, it has seven doors by Fray Juan Fernández de Heredia, and four of its towers are preserved. It can be visited individually or with a combined ticket with the reservoir. From its top we can see a beautiful view of the city. As you walk up the floors, the walls tell the story of Pedros' war. A short walk along the city wall gives you a great view of the aqueduct. Highly recommended.

Strolling Through Art and History
Exploring the Spanish Central Plateau ~ Teruel (Region)
This site houses precious artifacts collected from various parts of the province.
The Teruel Museum is located in Casa de la Comunidad, a Renaissance building from the 16th century situated in the heart of the historic district, just a stone's throw from the cathedral. The museum is divided into several sections: Archaeology, featuring items from prehistoric times to the Christian kingdoms, as well as artifacts from Iberian, Roman, Visigoth, and Arab cultures; and Ethnography, showcasing utensils, clothing, ceramics, and traditional handicrafts.

Amazing! A Spectacular and Beautiful Place!
Exploring the Central Plateau of Spain ~ Teruel (Region)
A must-see when visiting Teruel. This is a majestic passage that bridges the massive gap between the train station and the historic center of Teruel. It is another stunning example of Mudejar architecture that we discovered in this magnificent city. If you visit Teruel, you must walk along this staircase. You can also enjoy an authentic live performance of the Teruel Jota.

The symbolic sculpture of the city of Teruel
Walking tour in the Spanish Central Plateau ~ Teruel (region)
At the end of the two viaducts and between them you can see the Monument to the Heifer, a work created in 1985 by the sculptor José Gonzalvo, made of metal sheets that represent stars, angels, cowboys and bulls, which according to the plaque are the symbols of the founding of the city and of the Angel Heifer Festival, a tradition that dates back to 1679, and although they are made of bronze, they wear the red scarves that the people of Teruel wear during the bullfights in the square, as well as the typical belts worn during the festival.

Promoting Teruel's Southern Expansion
A Journey Through Spain's Central Plateau ~ Teruel (Region)
This old viaduct is now perfectly suited for pedestrians, but in the past, it served both pedestrians and road traffic. Built in 1929, it was designed to promote the southern expansion of the city of Teruel, which is now the location of Ensanche. Since I started living in Teruel, I’ve crossed this viaduct almost every week. The truth is, strolling across this beautiful and magnificent piece of civil engineering and enjoying the various views of Teruel city is truly a pleasure.

World Heritage Cathedral
Walking tour in the Spanish Central Plateau ~ Teruel (region)
A view of the Cathedral of Santa Maria de Mediavila, I don't know what it will be like inside but it is beautiful outside. It is considered an asset of cultural value and has been declared a historical-artistic monument since 1931 belonging to the National Art Treasure. The towers, roofs and domes have been a World Heritage Site since 1986. The cathedral has its origins in the church of Santa María de Mediavila, whose construction began in 1171 in Romanesque style and was completed in 1257 with the Mudejar tower. Tickets are 6€ each and well worth it, especially with a guide. The dome and roof are very interesting. It also has access to the Museum of Sacred Art, and if you don't need to go in, a professional at the entrance will explain some of the works to you.

We have been vacationing at Botanico for years.
We felt at home as soon as we walked through the door. They have it all here. Their staff is what a 5 star hotel should be, attentive, friendly and always willing to help.
The service is second to none and neither will they try and help or for you.
If you are looking for a wild modern hotel and this is not it, this is the place with a beautiful garden, pool, spa and a place of peace and quiet.
Fantastic restaurant. Everything is a la carte, 5 stars again, with a variety of food for every taste.
All I can say is this hotel is the best hotel we have ever stayed at. Very Good, Very Good.
Se or Escobar and all the staff, 5 stars.
