It is because they are Game of Thrones fans and the show filmed some scenes in this town, and this includes the Girona Cathedral and the steps!! I have never seen Game of Thrones but I equally enjoy visiting the Girona Cathedral because it is a magnificent and beautiful gothic cathedral, it is certainly impressive especially when I walked up the stairs and looked at it closely. While visitors often take the Montjuïc cable car to the top of the hill, we chose to walk up the winding paths through Montjuïc Park, enjoying the beautiful scenery along the way. One of the iconic images of Girona along the Onyar River are many brightly coloured houses, all painted in vibrant shades of brick red, ochre, brown, yellows and rich oranges. This colour palette was decided in the late 20th century by a team of artists and architects. The picturesque houses that line the river are known as the Hanging Houses (Le Casas Penjades).
