#solotrip Bilbao surprised me with its mix of modernity and tradition. I started at the Guggenheim Museum, admiring its futuristic architecture and stunning art exhibitions. Even if you don’t enter, the giant Puppy sculpture and the shimmering titanium curves of the building are worth the visit. From there, I wandered through the Casco Viejo, Bilbao’s old town, full of charming narrow streets, historic buildings, and lively pintxos bars. I couldn’t resist trying a few pintxos with a glass of txakoli, the local sparkling white wine. A must-see is the Ribera Market, perfect for tasting Basque flavors. Later, I took the funicular to Mount Artxanda for a panoramic view of the city. Bilbao is very solo traveler-friendly—safe, compact, and with excellent public transport. Eating alone is easy in pintxos bars, and locals are welcoming. Whether you love art, food, or scenic walks, Bilbao has it all!

In front of the shipyard stands a pier for crossing the river. Every afternoon, Carola, a beautiful young woman from Deusto, takes a boat across the river to go to work at Plaza del Só. She has to cross the Yuzcarduna facility. Workers await their arrival, sounding the factory alarm to accompany them. In honor of this beautiful woman, they named the crane after her. One of the main attractions here is the opportunity to connect with nature, as the Urkiola Natural Park is just 10 kilometers away. The park offers routes for horseback riding, walking, or cycling. It is also an ideal spot for other activities such as rock climbing, caving, or paragliding. For those who love art and culture, Durango boasts a rich cultural heritage. The Santa Ana Arch, the Santa María de Uribarri Church, the Kurutzia Cross, and the Santa Ana Church are some of the key landmarks you will encounter while leisurely strolling through the town's streets.

Embedded in the stones is something resembling a used throne or seat. Next to the throne, right in the center, stands a figure of an angel or saint slaying a dragon—possibly a symbol of a dethroned ruler from pre-Christian times.

From the Usategi viewpoint, you can enjoy breathtaking views of El Abra Bay. At the other end of the beach, there are sports facilities ideal for activities like snorkeling, sailing, and kayaking. Nearby, Atxekolandeta is home to small palaces and mansions built in the early 20th century. The most notable among them are Lezama Leguizamón Palace, Mudela Palace, Ampuero Palace, Aizgoyen Farmhouse, and Arriluze Palace. These stunning buildings are located along the coastline, surrounded by gardens. At the Arriluze Pier, the Casa de los Náufragos stands out. This building, designed in the style of a Basque farmhouse, is constructed on wide arcades and topped with a circular lighthouse.

The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao in northern Spain is not only a contemporary art museum, but the building itself is also a great work of art. The museum's appearance is very avant-garde and forward-looking. Some people may think it looks like a big ship, while others think it looks like a flower. If you visit Bilbao, I definitely recommend going to the Guggenheim Museum! It gets very crowded on weekends and holidays, so I recommend going on a weekday. I went on a weekday, and there were not many people, so I was able to look around at my own pace. Both the inside and outside of the building are wonderful and very impressive. The flower sculpture "Puppy the Dog" in front of the museum is Bilbao's most international symbol, and I was surprised at how much larger it was than I expected! The museum is very large and has a wide variety of works, so I really enjoyed it.
