Enshi City Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Jun)
Enshi Grand Canyon Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Jun)
we started from cable car down to up station and did 6k on the top of the ridge until escalators. followed by few kilometers bus ride from escalator down station to cable car down station back. then walked down the stairs to follow the green path on the bottom of the valley. all together 15 km GPS measured was gold. highly recommended for hiking lovers !
The Grand Canyon is approximately 2 hours by car from Enshi. The total trek is around 10 kilometres and takes around 4-5 hours. Do take the cable car as it covers a lo of grounds over a not very scenic part of the mountains. There are plenty of food stalls along the way for u to fuel up

Enshi five-day tour self-driving route recommended!
Enshi is located at the intersection of Hubei, Hunan and Guizhou provinces. It is cold in winter and cold in summer. It has abundant rainfall and abundant four seasons. The most famous one is Enshi Grand Canyon, but there are many small attractions. Shaojingmei, hurry to Mark
Itinerary recommendation:
D1 Arrival, live in Enshi Grand Canyon
D2 Enshi Grand Canyon Qixingzhai, Yunlong Ground, "Dragon Boat Tune" live performance
D3 Golden Cave, Tangya Toast City, Live Tree House
D4 Enshiping Dam Camp, Sidongxia
D5 Return
Transportation:
1 There are not many flights directly to Enshi. If there is no direct flight to Enshi in your city, you can consider going to Wuhan and then taking a train to Enshi.
2 After you get to Enshi, you can pick up your car and drive. Since there are many mountain roads, it is recommended to purchase the whole car insurance at the same time.
3 If you encounter thunderstorms in summer, you should pay attention to the road conditions in time, there may be mudslides or landslides leading to road closures.
:
1 Enshi Grand Canyon is divided into two main scenic spots: Yunlong and Qixingzhai. The upper seven-star village can take the cable car, and there are also hand-held elevators to go down the mountain. The entire scenic area is very large. There are no attractions in the two sections of the mountain and the downhill. It is recommended to take the cable car to save energy and time.
2 "Dragon Boat Tune" is a folk song of Lichuan. The real performance is based on the love story of a pair of Tujia boys and girls in the Tusi era, describing their touching stories of breaking away from feudal ties and pursuing free love. The scene is spectacular and you can better understand the local culture.
3Tangya Tusi City is a late Ming Dynasty ruins. If you just think of yourself as a hillside, it is recommended to find a explanation.
4 The number of tree house hotels in Lupingbaying is limited. It is often full in the peak season during the summer vacation. It is recommended to book in advance.
Hotel recommendation:
Enshi Grand Canyon Daughter Village Hotel. Very close to the Grand Canyon, the rooms are large in size, with balconies facing the mountain and elegantly furnished. The hotel has breakfast available and is cost effective.
pingbaying tree house. As if living in a Nordic cabin, the air in the virgin forest is exceptionally good. The detached chalet is quiet and romantic, but the facilities are not luxurious, but clean and comfortable.

🌳 In the beautiful Enshi, there lies an ancient and mysterious land—Enshi Tusi City. Since its inception in 1998, it has been the only large-scale, uniquely styled architectural complex of the Tujia people's Tusi culture in the country, and it is also a cultural treasure that every traveler must not miss.
🏛️ First Thread: Mo Chong Tower
Entering the Tusi City, the first thing that catches the eye is the towering Mo Chong Tower. This four-story building, ingeniously assembled from 12 pillars and 24 beams, symbolizes the cycle of the four seasons and the passage of time. Standing in front of the tower, one can almost feel the Tujia people's beautiful wishes for favorable weather and a bountiful harvest.
👥 Second Thread: Clan Thread Linjun Hall
Walking along the shore of Moon Lake, you come to the Clan Thread Linjun Hall. This west-facing building's plaque bears the Tujia character 'Lin', a symbol in the Tujia language, meaning a leader who provides food and peace. Inside the hall, the ancestors of the Tujia people, Linjun and the Salt Sun Goddess, are enshrined, and their legendary stories are passed down here.
📜 Third Thread: Cultural Thread Nine-Progress Hall
Going further in, you reach the core building of Tusi City—the Nine-Progress Hall. This hall, 99.99 meters deep and 33 meters wide, is made up of 333 pillars and 330 doors, and the thousands of carved wooden windows are dazzling to behold. Stepping into the Nine-Progress Hall is like traveling through a time tunnel, feeling the profound cultural heritage of the Tujia people.

Enshi Suobuya Stone Forest Scenic Area Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Jun)
There was an interesting story about how the place got its name. Legend goes in ancient time, the King of Xiang united five different tribes of Ba people and became their captain. One day he came across a place with three strategically significant mountain passes in a row. So the captain named this place “Suobuya”, because in Ba language, “sobu” means“three”and“ya” means “mountain pass”.
Suobuya stone forest, its limestone sediments formed more than 460 million years ago, corded by water, gradually developed into different layers with horizontal textures.
#hiking#nationalpark#roadtrip#summervacation#hikingtrails#urbanexplorer
Brief Introduction. Suobuya stone forest is the world's first Ordovician stone forest and is an AAAA grade China national tourist attraction. It is located 54km north to Enshi City, Hubei province in central China. ... And this is what distinguishes itself outside the other karst formations in southwest China.
There are more than 100 classic natural scenes in the Suobuya Stone Forest. The Orsun Co. which is the operator and developer of Suobuya would invest 15 billion Yuan to upgrade the Suobuya Stone Forest scenic area. At present, there are four main scenic spots open to the public. They are Qinglong temple, Lianhua village, Mozi Gully and Jiulonghui. Each scenic spot has its own characteristics and fossils were often found here, it is truly an amazing natural ancient geological landscape museum. Besides, many attractions centered on sports and adventure will also be available. Tourists will get a chance to explore the stone forest and the river valley. In addition, scientific educational attractions like the 4D cinema and fossil museum will be built. Suobuya offers both beautiful natural scenery and fascinating folk custom. Enshi Suobuya Stone Forest Self-Driving Camping Guide
Suobuya Stone Forest includes four major scenic areas: Qinglongtai, Lianhuazhai, Mozigou, and Jiulonghui, each with its own characteristics. The entire stone forest is like an underwater maze, very beautiful. The natural environment within the scenic area is beautiful and ecological. Online introductions suggest a playtime of three to four hours, but if you have the time, it's worth bringing snacks and immersing yourself for a whole day.
🗓 Itinerary:
For friends who, like me, are self-driving on a budget, I suggest driving directly to the Suobuya Stone Forest parking lot after coming down from other scenic areas or the highway the day before. Look for the highest position, where there is a mountain spring water pipe. Self-driving friends have conducted water quality tests, and it's even better than the water at home, so you can drink it with confidence. The next morning at 8 am, you can avoid the crowd peak, buy a ticket to enter the mountain, and take beautiful photos.
⏳ Playtime:
Normally 3-4 hours, but if you like, wandering around for a whole day won't be boring.
📝 Tips:
The parking lot I recommend for overnight stays usually has other self-driving vehicles, so it won't be too lonely, but it's not a dedicated self-driving campsite. The restroom requires a trip to the entrance of the scenic area, about a 10-minute walk back and forth.

Luyuanping Canyon Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Jun)
Travel Guide to the Primitive Village of Luyuanping in the Cliff Sinkhole.
【Introduction】: Today, I visited a primitive village that is not accessible by road -- Luyuanping.
The average altitude here is 1700 meters, covering an area of about 5 square kilometers. Surrounded by mountains on all sides, the cliffs form a natural barrier, with only four small paths for entry and exit, resembling a large strip-shaped sinkhole. There are two rivers, one called Liuliao River and the other called Zhongjian River. Luyuanping is located in the Zhongjian River basin, deeply embedded in the canyon crevice.
From the Qiaowan Pass at the top of the mountain to the bottom of the valley, there is a vertical drop of more than 500 meters. The path carved down the cliff zigzags for over 1000 meters. This unique terrain has preserved the original state of Luyuanping's mountains, waters, forests, fields, roads, and farmhouses. Access to the village is still reliant on two legs.
The villagers still use farming methods from hundreds of years ago. They grow their own tea and brew their own wine, using firewood for cooking. For heating, they can easily dig up coal (a type of rock coal exposed on the surface) just by stepping outside.
The villagers' houses are mainly stilt houses, with the main house built with wooden planks and surrounded by railings, making them very ventilated and warm. The roofs are covered with tiles, with people living upstairs and livestock and miscellaneous items stored downstairs. These old-style residential buildings are living fossils of Tujia traditional architecture, showcasing historical features.
The villagers' food, production tools, and daily utensils are still mostly self-produced. Throughout the village, you can see handmade stone mills, water mills, hand-carved stone vats, single-log bellows, windmills, wooden storage containers, and other production and living tools. Their simplicity solidifies history and conveys ancient cultural information.
🛬【Itinerary】: Depart from Enshi City, usually a two-hour drive.
⛺【Must-See Attractions】: After buying tickets at the visitor center, you can enter the park via the cliffside walkway on the left or take the inclined elevator on the right. If you can't walk too much, it's better to take the elevator.
At the bottom of the valley, there is an electric car that takes you directly into the scenic area, which is quite convenient.
After getting off, you can go see the waterfalls. There are four incredibly beautiful waterfalls that are really stunning.
After seeing the waterfalls, head to the crevice. It's very cool inside, with streams trickling and waterfalls flying everywhere. The effect should be best on rainy days. Highly recommended.
🍩【Must-Try Food】: There are farmhouses in the scenic area that offer local mountain goods like free-range chickens. The Codonopsis pilosula here is great, perfect for making soup or soaking in wine.
🏨【Accommodation Guide】: If you like the quietness of nature, you can stay in the mountains to experience the unique mountain-view homestays.
🚌【Transportation Guide】: It is recommended to drive or hire a car. The mountain roads are quite dangerous, so drive carefully.
🧡【Tips】: Pay attention to sun protection and mosquito bites.
Enshi's Xianju, the most beautiful Luyuanping
🌟Highlights:
Shenlu Sky Ladder, inclined at 45º, with a drop of 500 meters
👍Most recommended:
Canglu Divine Waterfall Group
Xuanlu Earth Rift
⏳Tour Time:
Walking and stopping along the way, taking photos for five hours
🗓Itinerary:
Enter the scenic area parking lot, don't stop, you can drive further down. The visitor center is below.
There are two roads after entering the gate, the cliff plank road on the left, and the Shenlu Sky Ladder on the right,
A one-way trip is 90, if you choose to go down, you need to buy a ticket at the visitor center. If going up, you can buy a ticket at the uphill station. The Shenlu Sky Ladder also requires a walk on the cliff plank road.
After descending the plank road, you will pass through attractions such as Luyuan, Wangfu Bridge, Yunnü Cave, Chunyang Peak, etc., and then there will be a branch. One side is the Canglu Divine Waterfall Group with four levels of waterfalls. After viewing the waterfalls, you can choose to take the slide, with a ticket price of 20 yuan, or return the same way.
Back at the branch, the other side is the Xuanlu Earth Rift. On the way back, there is a magic carpet, priced at 25, but it's actually not far. The exit is at Wangfu Bridge. Then return the same way to Luyuan, where you can choose to walk the plank road or take the uphill sky ladder.
We relied on our legs for the entire journey, walking twenty thousand steps a day, and the final plank road was really tiring
📝Note tips:
The waterfalls are beautiful, the earth rift is beautiful, both are worth seeing. You can take transportation, which is very physically demanding. Also, those with heart disease, high blood pressure, acrophobia, or those who are older and not physically strong are not recommended to come. Because whether you take the sky ladder or not, you have to walk the cliff plank road, and the sky ladder is also unbearable for those with acrophobia.
Everyone in my Moments is asking where this is
I've always wanted to visit Enshi, and I finally made it there!
The scenery in Enshi is truly beautiful, even though the light rain adds a misty touch, the fog-enveloped Luyuanping feels like a fairyland.
I suggest setting out in the morning, especially after rain; you might encounter the morning mist, which is incredibly beautiful. You can enjoy a leisurely walk with friends and complete the short circuit by noon to reach the inn.

The Tujia Daughter's City Barren Hall Folk Customs Park is one of the concentrated representations of the 'Smashing Bowl Wine' culture in Enshi Prefecture.
The Tujia hand-waving dance has a long history. According to the 'Laifeng County Records' Volume 32, which quotes the 'Huguang General Records', during the Five Dynasties period, 'In Shizhou Manshui Fortress, there was a tree called Pushe, which means elegant in Chinese. In the past, the Tan family ancestor cut down a strange tree at the East Gate Pass, which floated to Nache and then took root and revived, blooming hundreds of flowers in all seasons. The descendants of the Tan family danced under it, and the flowers would fall by themselves. They would pick them up and wear them. When other surnames came to sing, the flowers would not fall again, which was especially strange.' This text vividly records the scene of the Manshui Tujia people waving their hands around the Pushe tree more than a thousand years ago. It is the historical record of the Laifeng Tujia hand-waving dance.
🍽Dining Recommendations:
There is a food street in the scenic area, with local snacks everywhere, as well as Tujia restaurants, which is very convenient!
🏨Hotel Environment: It is recommended to stay inside Daughter's City, as it is more convenient to stroll around the night scenery. We stayed at the 'Magnolia' hotel, which was very nice!

Enshi Chapter: Tujia Daughter City Guide | Practical Guide for Visiting ||| Eat, Drink, Play, and Enjoy in Daughter City
Daughter City can be considered a business card of Enshi. If you want to experience Tujia culture, coming to Daughter City is definitely the right choice. Friends from other places, take note, the most fun days in Daughter City are during the Daughter Festival from the 7th to the 12th of the seventh lunar month every year. In addition to the regular Tujia cultural performances, during the Daughter Festival, there will be even more Tujia folk performances, such as walking on knife ladders and through fire, Tujia grass dragon, Tujia Splashing Dragon Festival, Daughter Festival matchmaking, sending off brides, Tujia antiphonal singing, blocking the door with wine, Ten Sisters, and so on. The annual Tujia Daughter Festival is not to be missed!
For tourists from other places, the best way to enjoy Daughter City is to stay overnight, as the regular performances are mainly in the afternoon and evening, which are especially lively. The public buses in Enshi stop running quite early, and the buses near Daughter City stop around 7 pm, while the most attractive event for tourists, 'Market Matchmaking. Daughter Festival,' starts at 8 pm. After the performance, if you want to leave by taxi, it usually gets very congested, so it's better to stay in the city for the night. In the morning, there are fewer visitors in Daughter City, and it's also very comfortable to stroll around the city. In addition to folk experiences such as sitting in a sedan chair and watching performances, there are naturally plenty of delicious snacks. Apart from the various snacks on the main street, there is also a dedicated snack street to the south of the city, with fragrant oil, Tujia corn cakes, Enshi tofu skin, Jianshi pancakes, roasted potatoes, steamed cakes, roasted glutinous rice cakes... everything you could want, and you're sure to find something to your taste. I especially recommend the roasted glutinous rice cakes in front of the Tujia Folk Customs Museum; the handmade cakes are grilled and then filled with brown sugar, white sugar, and soybean flour, which is incredibly fragrant, and only costs two yuan. Compared to the eight yuan I spent on a plain cake in Ciqikou, this is both delicious and affordable. Daughter City also has sugar paintings that children love, and when leaving, don't forget to take a few boxes of peach slice cakes that both the elderly and children love to eat. For regular meals, you can choose Zhang Guan Hezha or Honghu Yijue to experience Enshi-style hot pot, and I particularly want to recommend the lotus root soup from Honghu Yijue. If you want to experience the 'bowl-throwing wine,' you can choose Baren Hall, where you can watch performances while eating.
