Habsburgs Palace in Żywiec

The classicist palace in Żywiec comes from the 18th century and is called the New Castle. In 19th century the earlier palace was rebuilt by the Habsburgs, giving the building it’s current shape. Some of the palace rooms can be visited with a ticket to the Miniature Park, which is located behind the palace. In the mirrored ballroom take place the concerts, in one of the wings recently lived Princess Maria Krystyna Altenburg of the Habsburgs - the daughter of the former owners of the palace. The Duchess died in 2012 and in 1993 returned to her paternal home in Zywiec, where she was born in 1923. Her mother was Princess Alicja Habsburg, who together with her husband Archduke Charles lived in the Zywiec Palace from 1920-45. Her monument - a bench stands next to the palace in the Castle Park. The palace in Żywiec there are in the very centre of the city, near the Market Square, in the beautiful, monumental castle par, next to the Old Castle.
