Strolling through Huangyao

Huangyao Ancient Town is conveniently located not far from the highway. It feels like most ancient towns in China suffer from severe homogenization; even those with their own unique features gradually lose their distinctiveness and become buried for commercial interests. Huangyao is no exception. Entrance to Huangyao Ancient Town scenic area requires a ticket, priced at 88 yuan per person. If you stay at a guesthouse within the scenic area, you can get a discounted ticket through the establishment for 60 yuan per person. It seems that there are only guesthouses within the scenic area; at least, we couldn't find any chain hotels. The streets and alleys of the ancient town are lined with specialty shops, travel photography studios, and some eateries and bars.
