Zentsuji

Zentsuji in Kagawa Prefecture. Although the temple is well known, it is quiet and not crowded. The nearby Kumaoka Confectionery Store is a must-visit shop. Its specialty is hardtack, which was developed as a preserved food during the Sino-Japanese War. It is harder than you'd imagine, and it feels like you're eating a rock. There are various types, including stone bread, square bread, and round bread, and they are all so hard you might break your teeth. As a vestige of the former army, there is still a Japan Ground Self-Defense Force garrison here, and when you see the well-maintained streets and well-equipped public facilities, you realize that it is a key point in national defense.
